Ahoy!

Going straight to the point.. I'm using the CoH Planner v1.5 and the numbers I get about kinetic and power shield are 20.25% defence against the various attacks (Slotted with 3 defbuff SO's). I really hope this numbers are wrong, cuz otherwise I'm quite dissapointed. Even if my DM/EA brute is only lvl6 (or 7.. can't remember), I can only imagine how squishy I'm going to be comparing to the other brutes. Maybe it's just because I'm used to granite.. but 20.25% def seems really low to me.

Anyway, pls comment on this and give some build suggestions aswell. Thanks ;]

Brutes are not tanks.

Those figures are with SO's right?
Seem reasonable to me.

Roll a diffrent set if you want higher def, EA has some nifty tricks up its sleeves later in the game. Making it all pretty balenced.

I see you're point mate, but then again, /EA doesn't have any of the significant debuffs associated with /Rock and that's an important factor as far as I can see. And since they're the only two DEF bases sets rather than RESIST, that's the only comparison I can make.

I wouldn't like to comment on how much less or more effective 12.5% (base) defense (ea secondary) compared to 22.5% (base) resist (most of the resist 2ndaries) would be though.

I do know that my /fire brute at lvl25 is quite non-squishy enough for my liking, and that's before I've even got Tough, to add another 17.55% (with SO's) Lethal/Smashing resist. But as the man said, we're not tanks

Oh, and btw, the latest hero builder is 1.7.6.0 and can be obtained from http://sherksilver.coldfront.net/index.php (hope it's ok to post that link, moderators remove it if not plz rather than delete the post).

I also have a DM/EA Brute (currently lvl28), when you factor in combat jumping and Energy Cloak the figures are slightly better - 27.4% Def except Energy which has 33.3% Def. It's not a pure Def set - it does have some damage resistance if you pick up the passives. EA has one of the best mezz resist toggles for Brutes and DM/EA especially allows you to skip Stamina altogether.

It can be tricky to play especially since it doesn't have a heal, I've used the heal in DM to good effect, although I'll probably pick up the Medicine Pool now as well. It isn't the most 'tanky' of power sets to play, but it's been fun so far and I seem to do at least as well as most other Brutes I've teamed with.

Well I know brutes ain't tankers. I got a L40 SS/Stone brute myself, wich is probably the only secondary set wich allows u to tank. All I'm saying is that the defence is quite little. EA got some awesome "tricks" indeed but the defence could be increased. Thanks for the reply anyway

The Brute sets seem to be divided into those that provide better defence at a penalty (Stone/DA), and those that allow you to be self-sufficient at the cost of better defence (Fire/EA), with Inv weighted between the two groups.

That said, when teamed with Corruptors you can certainly "tank" quite happily if you so wish, although I'd advise picking up taunt if that's what you want to achieve - but I'm happy being a Brute.

I also have a DM/EA brute and found the end usage to be almost crippling to begin with. now I have Stamina it's no problem at all, although it's infuriating to see all those nice End replenishing or saving moves so far away up at the top! Now that I have a respec saved up I'll level a bit more (she's 25 now) and then use the respec and I might be able to skip Stamina!

DM complements EA superbly, as ToHit debuff from DM is effectively increasing your defence. Add in the self heal (as EM/EA, I'm incredibly jealous), and your survivability is not too shabby. Energy Drain and Conserve Power, as quite rightly stated, just about does away with the need for stamina (with a few carefully placed end reduction SO's). Oh, and Overload is like typing IDDQD.

Brutes in general have scrapper value for DEF and Resistance , they are meant to be go between , you canĀ“t really tank without a healer , but you can hold aggro beter then a scrapper .

So in the end its simply up to you to decide what you want to be .

While I'm here, a question about DM, although the scrapper board might be better. Does anyone have any figures for the -Acc in the DM attacks? I see they all take tohitdebuffs, and as they come back prettys quick anyway, and with fury and Soul Drain, I'm thinking about slotting them for it. Is it worth it, with EA, and do they stack on top of each other?
