That page only designates ones that are re-obtainable through oroborus, it doesn't specify which TF ones are reobtainable.

Death to the servants of a false emperor! Blood for the blood god!
Wait hang on, wrong game (although I now have the urge to make a Battle Axe Brute). -
Quote:Fair enough and I'm glad that works for you, I also apologize for the lack of sense comment, that was unnecessarily aggressive of me.But your statement is also wrong in other ways. I spend all my merits earned at the points of 30, 35, and 40 now. Why? To occasionally provide rare recipes that I want while I'm leveling. Because I don't power level to 50 and then play. Because I like my toons to be awesome in the 30s. Because I don't play my 50s that much, so IOing them out at that point seems a waste. To sometimes earn tremendous amounts of cash on a lower level toon (see a 30's earning power versus a 50's) if I'm bored with marketeering. And even to provide goods for the market, for others' fun. I've answered three specific requests in this forum, one of which was for a lower-than-max snipe pool C.* I actually get pretty disappointed with the new-ish weighting of the task for rolls**, since even if it's worth less sometimes, I like the Cs from accurate tohit debuff and such, rather than the common armors and attack Cs. Earning cash is easy. Getting some recipes is trickier.
*This person then said, oh I meant redside, after I'd posted for 30 million in WW. It still sold for the asking price when I left it up for a couple weeks.
**The two Numina's uniques and Obliterations in my last 10 rolls, notwithstanding.
At the same time I think you're going to find that you're largely in a minority. My experience is that most players either don't IO their toons at all (or at least don't go beyond generics) or wait until mid-40s to start IO'ing (at least beyond generics and maybe the odd frankenslot for leveling). Given that there isn't consistent demand for most recipes at anything below the top level for the set (the exceptions are the globals and some procs). From the point of view of making inf waiting until level 50 is a much safer gamble than doing it at mid levels.
Additionally level 50 recipes sell a lot quicker than lower level ones. Waiting weeks for a 30 million sale is for me a waste of slots. If you rotate through your alts for marketing I guess this isn't really an issue but I tend to only do market work on the character I'm playing (I'll occasionally log in my main specifically for marketeering but my other characters only do it if I'm playing them).
EDIT: Also to whomever placed the lowball bid for my level 10 Eradication: Chance for Energy damage, the asking price is under 20million, up your bid, you know you want it -
Quote:There are some exceptions (Malta for example) but in general NPCs have a lot more Ranged attacks than AoEs so solo Ranged is generally superior. You can make a good argument for doing S/L defense instead of positional although the good sets for those are generally for powers that defenders don't have much access to in quantity.I would say for defenders that play close in but no quite melee (kin/, /elec, etc) you might be more interested in AoE defense. Just an idea... :-)
In team play you might have a point, but I personally prefer to IO my character for solo play since that's where IOs have the largest impact (for example if you team with an FF defender, it doesn't really matter whether you have ranged or AoE defense) -
The problem is that there are significant long term economic effects caused by never removing enhancements form the game. Basically this would mean that whenever someone upgrades an enhancement they will place the old one on the market to alleviate the cost. Long term this means that the market value of most common/uncommon enhancements drop virtually nothing since most players will simply maintain several sets of them for the use of new alts and then take them out when they either start IO'ing the alt seriously or tire of them. Conversely the IOs that are expensive now (especially purples) will increase in price since people will have a larger store on inf available to spend on them.

To the best of my knowledge it was said both pre and post IOs.

Quote:That's a fair point. My interest in polearms has mostly been in their usage as an anti-cavalry weapon rather than as an anti-infantry weapon. That's a popular image, but the Swiss pikemen, famous for their effectiveness, usually raised the butt end of their pikes higher than the point, so that a deflection would send the point toward the ground, but still leave the pole in front of you as a barrier to approach. If they'd planted the butts, the points could be deflected uselessly up by an approaching shield-bearer, who would then be inside the dangerous part of the pikeman's weapon range and could close in for the kill.
More to the point, heh, the Swiss fought offensively as much as possible -- they tried not to stand on the defensive at all, but to leverage the offensive power of shock tactics. The Swiss disliked remaining still on the battlefield and would move relentlessly forward, driving the massed points of their pikes into enemy formations at speed, with shattering results. -
If a team can't handle a void boss, bright nova or cyst, the odds of them completing a masters run are pretty low IMO. Sure it's tougher but if you're close enough to the line the odds of you killing the patrons without deaths are pretty low.

Quote:Personally I see a Spear/Halberd set as a Tanker set more than a Scrapper set. While these weapons are used offensively with infantry they are strongest when used defensively since it allows the wielder to take greater advantage of the extra reach provided to them as well as being able to brace their weapon against the ground. To me that screams Tanker set more than Scrapper set.First off, the powerset itself. It would likely be a scrapper/Brute powerset (ie Spines, claws) and potentially a Stalker/Tanker powerset, although I'm not sure using a spear would be very 'Tank-ish' but hey, who knows? At any rate, this is just the Scrapper/Brute/Tanker version.

While I agree with your response, you've got the specifics wrong. When you purchase an enhancement for 100 million, only the 10% that the auction house gets as a cut is gone from the game, the other 90 million is still out there in the hands of the player that sold you the enhancement. That being said allowing people to unslot all enhancements during a respec would decrease inf destruction through market fees since people would have less incentive to buy new enhancements (as opposed to unslotting a retired character) leading to fewer transactions and the lowering of prices on most IOs would mean less Inf destroyed per transaction.

Not a tabletop gamer huh? RNG means Random Number Gods (or Random Number Generator if you want to be politically correct) sometimes their eyes turn from you and the sacrifice of a die is required to restore favor. Role playing gamers (or at least ones who play D&D) sacrifice a twenty sided die (d20) whereas 40k players like myself prefer to sacrifice a six-sided die (d6).

I've only run the sewer trial a couple of times. You're right it is a lot of fun, it also tends to be a close run thing. Even with a good team you tend to be short on time before you finish which I suspect is why it's so rarely run (at least for PuGs, no doubt someone will come in and explain that their SG canconsistently run it in 25minutes ).

Well from checking my costume files, the scales are apparently capable of at least 6 decimal points worth of precision.

Quote:There are a decent quantity of pool As and pool Bs available at all levels (although sometimes you need to search over a 5 level or so range) but most people opt to hoard their merits until they hit level 50 meaning that the majority of pool C/Ds are only available at the maximum level for that recipe. What's the deal with the lack of mid level I/O's? And I'm talking blueside. I can barely squeak together a set of anything decent these days at lvl 35. And it's not because I am underbidding, looking at the sell dates on recipes and enhancements, only one comes up for sale per week. Postitron's, Numinia's, etc., - there is just nothing for sale until you get to 50. Maybe it's the deluge after AE, but there is a severe lack of them right now.
Quote:Is everyone hunting purps on their 50's after lvl'ing up on AE? I have really enjoyed playing my alt scrapper, but i/o's in the mid 30's would make the grind a lot easier to deal with. The only way I got a LotG +recharge is when I lucked out on a reward merit roll because there are none for sale at that level.
Quote:Hopefully this will change with the holiday event merit rolls that are sure to hit the market, but what does this say about the players in general? Is everyone simply playing their 50's these days? -
Quote:I was mostly referring to the latter part of your statement:All of which have been suggested at length from 04 on, and quickly shot down by a plethora of forum regulars, and of course a couple devs over the years (too much manpower required to sort).
Quote:(change of that order is an unwelcome outcome to them) -
VirtueLFGAlpha is also a good global channel for general non-TF teaming

Quote:While allowing you to unslot all 50 enhancements would mudflate the costs of low and mid range stuff I think it would actually inflate the costs of higher end items. Being able to respec all enhancements out of retired characters would mean that some percentage of the population suddenly stop needing to buy any of the more common set enhancements which means that they can now spend a larger percentage of their liquid wealth on high end purples and PvPIOs upping the cost considerably. The price of HOs though would probably drop dramatically since I'm sure there are plenty of people with pre-I9 HO'd characters who could flood the market.I really think this is entirely backward.
Freeing up more enhancements to be sold on the market would lower prices as it would increase supply. It would lower demand as well as people could re-use inventions instead of having to buy them again. It would be the *opposite* of inflationary.
Now, making a pay to release service that people could pay 10 million to unslot an enhancement - or something like that - THAT would be an inf sink, and reduce inflation.
On the other hand, you need a balance. Items have to be 'used up' or you get deflationary spirals where as supply increases, but no items ever leave circulation, the price slowly lowers. This creates what is known in MMO analytical circles as "mudflation" where characters are more powerful than they used to be, since previously unaffordable items are now cheap enough for low levels to get, making older content no longer worth doing as it's too easy and the items aren't worth it.
CoH has always done a great job preventing "mudflation" and maybe that's what you were thinking of - but in many ways "mudflation" is the *opposite* of inflation. (Purely coincidence, but I just noticed how inflation conveniently beginning with "inf" making it clearly refers to currency inflation!) -
I don't intend to have any characters completely switch, I like being the hero and have no real desire to play a villain (I will probably start some villain ATs, but I'll bring them up through Pretoria and have them start as heroes). I do plan to have a few of my characters become vigilantes so I can explore the Rogue Isles but which ones do it will depend on the actual mechanics. If there's no real downside to becoming a vigilante then I'll move over my main and a couple of others who I tend to figure are already vigilantes in all but name. However if there is a significant bonus to staying true then I'll move over characters I don't care as much about (i.e. my warshade).

The only complaint I've heard about WP is that it's taunt aura is rather weak compared to other sets so WP tankers have a harder time holding the attention of a corwd.

Well, there are two obvious solutions to your concerns. The first is to have the animation play regardless of whether the person is blocking/prompting buffs or not. The second is to not have a means of blocking/prompting buffs but instead allow a simple means of canceling a buff after it's been cast (for example in WoW you can end any buff early by right clicking on it).
I see where you're coming from with not wanting to waste long recharge buffs on people who are going to block/cancel them but in my experience those aren't the ones that cause problems, no one in their right mind would deliberately refuse fortitude or AB. However, for some buffs (particularly speed boost and the thermal shields) the dislike of the buffs by some people is not a personal opinion but a matter of practicalities. I've been on a plenty of teams where people would ask not to be speed boosted since it actively hindered their ability to play, generally because their computer was older and couldn't handle the extra speed very well. In most of those cases the buffer in question simply didn't SB them and all was well but in some cases he did buff them which invariably led to arguments. In most cases it pretty much came down to "sorry, I was trying to re-SB the 6 other people and mis-clicked" although in a few cases the kin would take an attitude of "you'll take your SB and you'll like it" which if I was the team leader would be grounds for a kick since as far as I'm concerned that amounts to griefing.
Now in both these situations having the ability to block/prompt buffs would solve the problem entirely. The buffee does not get the negative performance associated with problematic buffs and the buffer can just go ahead and buff the entire team without needing to remember which teammates do not what buffs.
EDIT: Just thinking about how I'd do it, rather than have a prompt (which I already find annoying for rezzes and mystic fortune) what I'd like is to be able to cancel an ongoing buff in two different ways. First have the ability to right click on the icon with "cancel buff" as a new option on the context menu and secondly add a cancel buff slash command. The former means that people have a way to cancel unexpected buffs during non-combat situations (i.e. costume contests) while people who want to avoid specific buffs all the time for performance reasons can setup a bind/macro to allow them to cancel them all with a single click during combat.
For example if you find that the fire shields and speed boost impact yuor performance you could do:
/bind f "cancelbuff Speed Boost$$cancelbuff Fire Shield$$cancelbuff Plasma Shield"
That way if they get cast on you you're a single button press away from no longer having them. -
Quote:This is very true. If I've leaving the team I generally ask who wants the star. It's very rare for me to actually get a positive response, most of the time it's either silence or a sudden revelation that everyone else needs to leave the team as well.I notice that when the leader goes, most Pugs disintegrate immediately. Even when another player takes the star. I haven't noticed this on the lesser populated servers, but then again, when you only have 1 team in your level range there is not much to choose from. Perhaps that makes those teams more stable.

I'm pretty much going to rehash what everyone else said, but in general defense and recharge are the bonuses most likely to benefit a defender. Accuracy and Recovery are also useful, but I find that I pick up enough of them incidentally.
However, different primaries will benefit from these in different amounts. Traps and FF for example have a high base defense so building on that makes a lot of sense. Conversely while Empathy (like most defenders) does benefit from a moderate amount of ranged defense it has some VERY powerful long recharge buffs so a focus on more recharge helps a lot (possibly going to the point of perma hasten).
