  1. Well, I'm an offender, I like to party hard. All this pure support malarkey I leave to the Empaths.
  2. How do you chaps get by with so few attacks I like to have at least two for every situation. My current build has no IR or Repel, and while I'm feeling the pinch, I'm getting by OK without.

  3. I think Fire Shield is 30% resist unslotted...

Unslotted Fire shield -- 70/100 damage.

    3 SO's in Fire Shield -- 53/100 damage (ish).

    3 SO's in Fire Shield & Unslotted Tough -- 36/100 damage (ish).

    3 SO's in Fire Shield & 3 SO's in Tough -- 20/100 damage (very very ish).

    I think.

(Edit: Just rolled up Fire Tank to check resists. Scavenger hit me for 6.74 without FS, and 4.72 with. 6.74/4.72 = 0.700 damage taken, 1-0.7 = 0.3, 30% resistance unslotted is verified. Not sure about Tough numbers, mind - should go load up my Tank and check.

Second Edit, woohoo: Just checked unslotted Tough, it's giving me 17% resist, so just going to change those numbers)

Moment Of Glory Is there A Piont?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes. And don't use it against anything with psi, ever.
  5. Like I said, I'm no whizz with the maths - guess I should say he's taking 300% of the damage he was before?
  6. [ QUOTE ]
My bad, you are 20% less effective now

    [/ QUOTE ]

One way to look at it.

I'd say with 90%s/l, you were taking 10 damage from a 100 damage hit, with 70% you take 30 damage from the same hit.

So you're taking 300% more s/l damage now (or lasting 33% of the time you could have before, or a 66% reduction in effectiveness?).

With unslotted Tough, you'd be taking 38 damage.
Without Tough, from that attack you'd be taking around 53 damage.

So, compared to how you were pre-ED -

Fully slotted Fire Shield and Tough = 300% more damage taken.
Fully slotted Fire Shield and unslotted Tough = 380% more damage taken.
Fully slotted Fire Shield but no Tough = 530% more damage taken.

This is my first playaround with the maths, so maybe got everything wrong. Plus, I'm not sure if the old Tank res cap was 90% or 95% - if it was 95%, double those percentages. But it seems to me that Tough is worth taking, and worth slotting.

    best brute 2

Solo, I would and did go with Energy Melee/Energy Aura.

On a team, I'd probably go with SS/Dark.

    imho.
  9. [ QUOTE ]
How come yours was so tight? What powerpools did you take?

    [/ QUOTE ]

There's nothing in my primary I can function without, so that's 9/24 choices gone...
Five of my secondary I love dearly, plus one forced pick, is 15/24 gone...
Stamina and Fly (Fly I just would not go without now) means 20/24 gone...
Hasten and SS for the stealth component means 22/24 gone...
And Dominate & Mass Hyp. & Telekinesis means 25/24 gone...

If I did have spare choices, there's other attacks in my secondary I'd rather have anyway (Edit: Not to mention Tactics, which I only wish I had the room for)!

Edit - And I wouldn't build him without Stamina - Transference just cannot keep up with TK, Repel, Fly, Hasten, or even just constantly Speed Siphoned attacking!
  10. Didn't take Fly or Leap and got through 50 levels of kinetic offending quite happily. Acrobatics does, of course, make things easier, but a decent kin offender is a very tight build and it can be a nightmare to squeeze in.
  11. SJ's the best straight out of the box, with experience (and an extra slot) SS>SJ. And you get Hasten, too!
  12. Eek, double-posted. Heat's affecting my brain, sorry.
  13. If you get Hasten, you'll almost certainly need Stamina to carry it off.

If you get Stamina, you may find it's surplus to requirements without Hasten.
  14. I like the new Inv effects, they suit my brute infinitely better than the hideous hideous sparklies.

Dull Pain clashes a little, I admit, but otherwise all is well and I'd prefer it not to be changed back.
  15. Six recharges in hasten seems a bit much, possibly a fourth is giving you a tiny benefit (maybe half a second, I dunno), but I seriously doubt the last two will do anthing for you - convert them to heal enhancements and drop 'em in AB for uber regen on any character. I'd guess Swift much much much more useful than health, with your self-heal and all.

All down to personal taste, really.

I thought energy cloak wouldn't stack with stealth?

    Best not grab stealth then

    EM/EA PvP Build

The shedload of disorient is very useful in PvP, tis true. I don't know how we'll fare in I7, but in I6 I've found my EM/EA a little too squishy to hang about for long - I've not tried air supes on him, I've hasten + SS to bring attacks back faster and grabbed CJ as well for the added def and mobility. CJ seems to make a fair bit of difference to PvE survivability (the small def from it would make narf all difference to most sets, but EA stacks nicely with it), but I'm not sure how it alters PvP fights, because as I say I don't hang about for prolonged fights. BU + TF + ET + Bonesmasher will be enough to finish most things off, but Brutes, Tanks and scrappers require a little more.

Your attack chain should be sufficiently fleshed out to not need any power pool attacks.

    [ QUOTE ]
Highly recommended as a lot of fun, using energy cloak to operate as a "heavy stalker".

    [/ QUOTE ]

Nail, meet head. I've been mistaken for a stalker so often (and [censored] out repeatedly for being a g4nk3r!!1 oh noes) I'm considering grabbing stealth with the freespec.

    Empath Defenders

Only thing I ever wanted to bind was numpad healing - binding target teammate 1 & fire off Heal Otter to numpad one, teammate 2 to numpad 2 and so forth. Wasn't a lot quicker, after empathing for some hectic teams you'll be speedy on the trigger anyway - my reflexes are terrible but was pretty good at twitch healing by about level 30.
  19. Personally think it's a mistake to ignore your secondary attacks. I'm not saying you should be an out-and-out blapper, but you'll be close a lot of the time anyway (Shout is tiny range so you've got to be on top of em to do the damage) and with screech/siren's song (edit: mon dieu! Siren's song that late??) you can get in and out and do serious damage. Sonics has a fair bit of hard control, exploit that to the fullest to let you make some VERY big orange numbers solo.

    En/En Post 40

Definitely grab Hasten, it brings TF & ET and BU up so often it's not even funny. I'm uconvinced about EA's passives, if you're being wailed on you're probably dead with or without passives.

My plan post-40 will be to grab things that need little slotting, so I can divert slots where they're really needed (second end reduction in shields, for a start)
And Overload... can't see much use for the heal enhancements, I've gone with Def,Def and more Def. Also, I found an end reduction in TF goes a very long way, it sucks a LOT of blue (don't believe me? Try it while watching your bar!)

Oh, and I tried stun for 12 levels, and dropped it - wind-up time is too long, and by the time it's fired off you could have killed the critter anyway. Not my cup of tea - recommend trying it on test before committing yourself to it.
  21. Too many FF's in the world, barely any Sonics. Go sonic, show the world it's a viable choice.
  22. I think the theme that divides the populace here, is that the title should have read "Is a tank without taunt a tank without taunt?".

In which case, yes it is.

The more divisive issue is "Do you feel safer when a tank on your team has taunt?", which will be down to people's opinions and experience and can be argued til the cows come home.

I'm sure some tanks can be effective without taunt, I'm sure taunt makes some tanks more effective. I'm sure some tanks think they're effective without taunt when in fact they're leaking aggro left right and centre and I'm sure that some tanks with taunt could probably drop it and still do enough to keep their teams safe.

    Feh.
  23. Sign-up here - Hobnob Aramis, BS/Regen, little PvP experience. Even if there's no team for me, I can wade about hitting things randomly.

    D3 Build

Hmm, as I said earlier I know little of Dark, but I would have thought that in a set with so many DoT's, the instant damage from Dark Blast will be quite useful to finish things off pronto?
