Quote:That seems alot of 'out of pool' powers, does this mean skip health and stamina? (i heard something about a staminaless update but I'm gonna act like thats still a LONG ways away), also most of the time I spend soloing anyway (I hate how groups always like to blitz through things some times). also how would you slot that?Additional notes: I highly recommend getting Leadership and Medicine. Assault, Tactics, Aid Other, Aid Self, Resuscitate. It will make you far more desirable in a team on top of your considerable AoE damage which comes with that pairing.
@enhancements I tend to go middle of the road and slot sets for global Damage/recharge. My other blaster i have is a Arch/Devs blaster who seems like a whole diffrent critter compaired to this one :P -
So yeah, way back when the AE was in full swing and farming boring one room missions would get you to max level quick (I donno if it still does, but I aint doing that again even if it is..) I made a Fire/Mental blaster. Cut a long story short I got him to level 33 and then because of AE at the time (No one would run anything eles) I quit till GR came out (even then i gave it time). So several months have passed since i played this guy. His skills are a complete mess and not even slotted properly (who needed slotting for AE anyway, just mash buttons) and I was wondering a few things.
1: is Fire/mental still a viable build for end game stuff?
2: Anyone have a rough idea as to how to build this thing properly for AOE carnage?
3. With Going Rogue can we now get red side patron skills? I'm kinda wanting Mu lighting, if not Im not sure what i would get hero side..
Any help would be cool, even messed up as he is, hes fun to play. -
so Ive come back from a loooooong break from CoX and decided to go back to playing my archer/dev blaster as i remember how much fun I had with him before i left, problem I'm having at the moment is I think i had a build in mind but with time i forgot it. Can some one post a build or two so it might jog my memory? I dont really remember what i was going for and it would be a huge help. BTW the build I think was a pve build (never cared for CoX style pvp..)
Thanks!
Edit: also seems slotting was an issue, i have no idea bonus wise what i was going for (i have like 4 slots into targeting drone and a set in there so..no idea) -
anyone have any build or advice on this combo? I'm wanting to try this out mostly for fun but would like for it to at least be effective :P

Quote:This reasoning is what will get pvp recipes removed from zones, or the drop rate nerfed even more than it is now. This all sounds way too much like WoW arena matches...Not really one of you, see i don't kill people for fun, nor do i make people mad by interupting their duels. Actually, if i gank someone, i ask if they want to kill me in rest for a chance for a pvp recipe their self. Only if i'm carrying an awaken though, i used to play a stalker in SC and got used to never dieing, good ole phase, fly, and teleport.

Im not a pvp by trade but isnt 'dueling' in an open pvp zone kinda abusing the system? Basicly all your doing is trading kills for badges. If you want to duel why dont they take it to the arena or pocket D? Makes no sense to me. Both those venues are for 'dueling' pvp zones are open zones for full pvp. Complaining about being killed during a duel in an open pvp area is like complaining that a mac truck hit your go-cart on the freeway..

One thing to note is the brute seems like a tank villain side but it really isnt. It *CAN* be a tank but it requires a decent secondary to do, as far as I know /electric is not really a 'tanking' set. Its best you think of yourself as a DPS class with the possibility of tanking if things go wrong
all that may change with i16 however.
Oh yeah Keep the fury bar up. This means having to basicly leapfrog from one spawn to another while popping green insperations to keep your health up. Reason for this is the higher that bar is the more damage your going to do. -
Quote:they also are a pc game company that produced some of the most popular PC games to date, Warcraft being one of them.WoW has a bigger userbase to draw from, too, and has the resources to do more specialization.
I always enjoy it when people take WoW and compair it to any other MMO. What people fail to recognize is most of its playership came in originally because of the name, a name which had been established through three games made for PC. Before WoW it was almost unheard of to reach a subscriber base even 20% of what WoW currently holds. Now WoW comes around with its millions of subs and ever mmo in creation is trying to clone it to get even a small percentage of its playerbase. Then you have games like this that are small and cater to a diffrent group of gamers.
People should quit confusing the two and compairing them. Its just silly.
WoW Was made with the intent of expanding the PVP section of the game. Over the years they made their share of screwups to pvp (most wont remember) but they had the funds to tweak and play with it. Hell Im sure there is a whole team of people devoted to just pvp content there. They have the money and manpower to do that.
COX was made originally (from my understanding) with the idea that PVE content would be focused on as its main aspect of play. Only later did they open up to pvp. With the way pvp has been over the years of its exsistance I dont think there was ever a main focus for it. Even if there was I dont think they have the man power to devote to both pvp and PVE at the same time. If this game HAD a pvp focus Atlas Park/Mercy Island would have PC villains and Heros swarming all over each others maps (come to think of it a pvp bank mish would be fun as hell).
Either way, i WOULD like to see some more love to pvp happen, however people really should remember that WoW and CoX are totally diffrent games. WoW is freakishly huge (With a LARGE number of rude players) and CoX is smaller. -

Dont forget the token DB/WP brute that sometimes shows his/her face in PVP zones saying "lOl wuz dat ur lookin at? ARRRRRRGGG! I HAVE EXPIRED!!!!!!!"

So my new favorite of the week is my fire/mental Blaster with all his AoE love he dishes out hes been real popular in groups as of late, however he could probably be a bit better. Things Im wondering.
Slotting World of confusion, is it worth it? it seems to not really do anything much other than make me look like a floating grape. Ive never seen it once confuse a mob, and the damage dosent seem to be worth keeping it around. If slotted how many and with what?
I skipped all the melee powers in /mm and the build Im going for is a defensive build (I tend to pick up alot of aggro even managing my own) so i can survive if something gets in my face. Im also a hover blaster, so will skipping these attacks make life more difficult?
Example builds, I would like to see a few just to get an idea of what people are doing with this combo and to see if I am on the right track (Or get an idea of what I want to do) as far as slotting and what levels to take powers. Im going to be exempting a few times in order to do TFs I missed and Orub missions. Currently in my ranged attacks i have 5 slotted thunderstrikes soon to be 6 when i get some free slots (For the ranged def), hover is 2 slotted with Universal travel IO's for its ranged benifit with the third slot waiting on a Gamblers 7% recharge, Fly will be three slotted to include the full universal travel set, Targeted AOE will be 5 slotted with Positrons, both the "Aim' and "build up power" (I forget their names) are 3 slotted with Adjusted targeting for the +2% damage and the resist, I have no idea how to slot the drain, though Im thinking one of the targeted heal sets (its much cheaper than my first choice)
Anything Im missing? I dont want to get into purple sets atm because quite frankly the thought on the cost of those gives me a head ache (Not that i wouldent want them but damn..)
On a side note this blaster is fun to play... -
no pun intended? :P
If I can stand out in the open, shove a katana in some guys back, use an ability that makes him forget Im there, then shove the katana in his back AGAIN thus killing him (all while his friends 30 or so feet away just sit there not hearing this going on even though they could just be like "hey..bob, is that your blood? bob? bob?) then I can make belive that a flaming ninja can sneak around =) -
A ninja in orange bothers you but the fact that they train in schools out in the open and have to be 'registered' ninjas dont? :P

Quote:I would like to belive that anyone inviting you on a team just wants you to have fun but this really isnt the case most of the time sadly. As for strategy the only amount of it this game has is "Let the tank get the aggro, drop heals on tank". I agree that i would love to see this be the "General attributes everyone who plays this game have"To the person who wanted educated on why to invite a stalker:
Im not trying to be snarky, but, how about fun as a reason? If the person playing the stalker is fun to have on the team, has fun playing his character, uses interesting tactics and strategy you don't always see, finds a way to use an underused power to full effect, helps you to complete your missions and stays around to help you complete multiple tasks, how is this not useful in a team? These are all just general attributes I would love to see everyone who plays this game have. It matters not really what archtype the player is, if he plays it well and has fun and lets you have fun, isn't that a good teammate? -
Quote:Oddy I do play on Freedom and havent seen that many stalkers in any zone, I think the most Ive seen is like..3. What zone are you playing with these 30-40 people in it? And if you think AS isnt easy to avoid you probably dont play stalkers at all. AS requires you to stand in one spot for a few seconds to 'charge' it up then to preform it. During this time anyone and their mother can interupt it or just run off, even if it goes off its damage is LOL to most anyone.
Stalkers AS is not easy to avoid. Clearly you don't play on Freedom, where most of the time if there is 30-40 people in the zone 15+ are stalkers. Considering also you can get it off on the move IF you know how to play yours, maybe that is the issue.
Actually for your information, I have 31 50's and alot of villains. I make it a personal goal to log on whatever side is down or getting base camped for awhile. So either you don't play on Freedom or learn before YOU speak. Rinse and Repeat what I said about stalkers above......
Brutes have better than tank suvivability in most cases, however scrapper damage. It is supposed to be a mixture of both but NOT Excelling at both. It is not supposed to be on par with both or even very close.. That is the problem. Research, gain experience and knowledge, then comment on such constructively.
Also just because I dont happen to agree with you dosent make my post less constructive. Its not like I told you "LRN2PLY N00B" or anything like that.
EDIT: the reason I assumed you just played heroside is the only two ATs you suggested needed being nerfed was the brute and the stalker (both being redsides melee ats). You said nothing about psi blasters or anything like that. -
It will..force someone to..re-toggle. Basicly it would only be effective on newbies and other people who melee (who are generally not running away anyway) but will do squat to anyone who fights at range, because the first rule of range is to stay AT range. It sadly would solve nothing, because about the only thing melee CAN fight is other melee unless they get the drop on ranged, even then it wouldent help really.
-
Quote:You must play heroside primarily, you know, the side with more blasters than will ever be stalkers? You know the class where you can float around like a bloated balloon and snipe someone from range? Stalkers are also really easy to foil, and most squishy characters have the tools to be able to keep them out of stealth or being AS. Oddly enough the easiest way to foil a stalker is to not stop moving. Also get the leadership skill that adds +per or any other skill that adds +per. Its not hard and just a small bit of it reveals most stalkers.Doesnt seem to be that way, do you play on Freedom? Because every stalker there even the one not fully Ioed out, seem to have no problem killing just about anything but a well build tank or regen scrapper with just an AS and shark crit
As for the AS immunity it makes perfect sense. At the moment there are way too many stalkers, pretty much have been since they were released. No offense but come to find most just playing for an easy button and the hide. I fear when going rogue comes out it will just be stalkers invading zones on both sides, PVP will become even more stupidly broken, not to mention boring. With an AS immunity (slight nerf) coupled with removal of interrupt (slight buff) it will insure that stalkers aren't the only AT on the field or atleast that they don't make up 50% or more of the zone pop, which on freedom its pretty high for RV atleast.
I would even go as far as suggesting that Brutes had their survivability toned down a bit, with the way it is, they have Tank surviability and better with some builds, and the damage of a scrapp. Not to mention bring other power pools on par with SS for tanks and brutes.
As for brutes, tank survivability? uhh..sure? Scrappers have that too. all you have to do is look in the scrapper forums to see the threads about some scrapper soloing AV's solo. Brutes by creation were made to be a cross between tank/scrapper but exceeding neither of those. As for doing more damage than scrappers its entirly possible, however they have to work up to it which, most of the time they wont really get to. Our only other melee class is stalkers (not counting VEATs) so yeah your gonna see both of them alot.
EDIT: Also most of those stalkers you pointed out are noob stalkers that belive just having stealth will give them the IWIN button, which anyone who has played the class knows is not true. If you want a true "IWIN!" stealth class go play the rogues in WoW, then come and look at stalkers again. Im almost 100% sure you will LOL at stalkers. -
I have no idea why those two are even tied together. With so many IO sets (mostly melee sets) that have +% Regen on them its seems that was really really silly of them to DO that. Not only that there are at least two powersets that build around +regen.
Another thing that bugs me and i may be imagining this but my IO'ed out AS strike dosent seem to be doing as much damage as I would have thought. You would think with the sitting there and waiting to go off it would do mass damage. On the other hand I had a SS/Stone tank hit me with a melee attack for like 300+ on a low ball attack (in a level 30 area).
*shrug* I guess lol pvp? -
lol..pvp in the corner. Is the next step a bag over the head or something? :P

Quote:I agree. They should take a gander at what they did.I think this is a pretty good idea. It would probably take a dev 2 minutes of playing a fortunata to see how broken defenses are in pvp, hell i'd even volunteer my account
Quote:However getting the developers to play their avatars in a regular pvp event would certainly increase the interest in pvp as a whole. More people in pvp would probably get us more attention and subsequently (hopefully) updates to create balance.
Quote:A few problems to overcome though. I'd say a good amount of the pvp community is hostile towards the devs. While some of us are reasonable and would welcome the devs join in the fray with hopes it will benefit the community overall; there are others who would certainly show up to harass the devs or hope that there aren't any more changes to pvp (with the fear the system will become even worse).
Quote:I wouldn't put the devs up against the "best" pvpers. While it would get the message across of how unbalanced pvp currently is (especially if a dev was playing a pve build, oh wait those were supposed to be viable!) it wouldn't be a fair match. Most pvpers know the first time they stepped into a zone they got handled, but with practice and working on the build they steadily got better. Tossing the devs in against the "best" would be too sharp a learning curve and who knows what changes would happen with that experience. (This is inferring the devs don't pvp; I think that's a fair assumption giving the state of pvp) -
We need a pvp event where we vote for the best pvpers on each server and once a month these players face off in a pvp zone (with current rules) against the Devs in an all out fight. The winners would get a Badge and prehaps a special title (in cool colors!) if they beat the Devs team. This would do several things I would think.
1. It would bring the playership closer to the Devs. Somehow they feel remote in this game.
2. It would allow the devs to see how lopsided things in pvp have become and might get them more intrested in that aspect of the game.
3. Its good publicity. People would be like "Yeah, Im looking forword to this months Pvp event. I wanna see how (insert dev) will do against (Insert pvp mpv of the month here)"
During these events the whole pvp zone that the event was held in (It would have to be a pvp zone, no arena no /duels) would be shut down to all but those that were participating. Drones could be used to observe the match. What do you guys think? -
Is this more viable these days for a blaster to pvp with seeing as when you get attacked your travel powers slow down anyway?
Edit: this is for a blaster btw
