Sorry I can't read through this wall of text fast enough. I'm just throwing two cents in.
Reformed badge: Either take it out completely meaning those who got it or leave it alone for everyone to be able to get.
Brainstorming not counting: Uh whyyyy????? I'm trying to rationalize this decision... but I'm coming up empty. -

OK... I know this may be a silly question or two. I am a 42 month vet and have paid with my debit card from day 1. Decided to transfer a character and got ' no credit card on file". WTH?? I didnt take it off file. Anyway? Once your card information goes by by how do you reenter the info? Do you have to cancel and reactivate the account? I cant find a place for credit card info anywhere in account management. Not under summary, profile or billing info... All I got from the help search was how to reactivate but my account is not deactivated..... HEeeeeellpp!!
[/ QUOTE ]
Having the same issue, says I have no credit card on file when I never changed it. Went to buy character slots and was unable to and it won't let me add a card back into the account. -
Welcome to you both, Blue Steel and Mynx.
Blue Steel, you need an avatar. Mynx, you need a better one.
-
Ok, sorry if this has already been answered but when do they become available after purchasing them?

USE THE AEGIS SET. Specifically, the Psionic & Mez resist one. Those can be slotted up to five times, which will provide a decent Resistance against Psionics.
[/ QUOTE ]
The Psi + Mez Resist of Aegis is Unique, it can only be slotted once, not five times. -

...OH, how I loathe that line... no respect for villains it seems. DX
Glad to have you back anyhow, Manticore.

No slight intended to the villains out there! The Praetorians are still my favorite CoH creation and Ghost Widow's journal pieces are my pick for best Manti-lore.

One other small question, will Cryptic's logo be removed from ingame stuff? It would feel kinda odd if it was.
-
I have really two questions and I apologize if one of them sounds really stupid. I know Statesman isn't coming along and that the character is the property of NCSoft now, but will he still be allowed to communicate on the forums here with a red name and will he and Matt/other developers still communicate even if it's unofficially?
Second question, now that our NCSoft overlords are in charge, can we please, please, pleaseeeeeeeee get more character slots per server?? And yes, I'm willing to give money! -

There was probably a thread on this I missed because of weak search-fu, but whatever happened to distributing the 'new powerset for every AT' that was once advertised for the since-cancelled new box edition, among Issues 9-12?
If I9 and I10 come out with no powersets, and the devs are only considering new sets for at most 4 ATs in I11 or I12, what happened to the rest?
Not to bash this efforts, scrappers and tankers need the love first, but is there a long term plan for the rest?
[/ QUOTE ]
We did plan out Power Sets for the retail box, but we've gone the route of free updates instead (woohoo!). Yep, we had some planned...and we thought about just putting those into updates as schedule permitted...
but then we thought it'd be cool if we polled the players what they wanted first. Not all of these power sets are of equal difficulty - some are tougher than others - but they are all possible. I can't promise exactly when it'll get in, but please know that we've heard loudly and clearly that players want new power sets.
BTW...Ball and Chain was my little addition last minute. It would be just be SO cool!

States, a while ago, I thought you said Growth would be an impossible feat, why is it all of a sudden in here? -

The explanation that the devs gave us as to why power customization was not possible was that the auras and power effects could not be changes, they were 'baked into' the animations themselves.
Of course, redoing the animation without them and adding a way to select which power effects you want and their color and stuff (basically power customizaiton) was possible, technically. But was not realist in term of work load for them.
Now, if there is a way for the player base to give them these animations already done... then, I guess, power customization become doable.
It is one of the most desired feature for the game, from what I read...
[/ QUOTE ]
No, the colors for a lot of particles are 'baked in' to the particle's texture. The FX scripts themselves are completely separate from animations. In fact there's a lot of animations that are shared between different powers with entirely different FX.
Power customization has some pretty big hurdles to overcome.
1) Powers currently point to one animation and one set of FX scripts. There's no way in the our engine at this time to have them reference a different animation or different FX without just changing it in the power definition (which changes it for everyone). This isn't a small or insignificant change and without it we literally can't even begin to do costumized FX or animation.
2) Colors in FX are often baked into the particle textures. Most of the time they're not, they use a greyscale texture and tint the color with an RGB value, but there's enough that do use a colored texture that it would require quite a bit of work to overhaul and set everything up for customization. We did test a more global system that could just shift the hue of the entire FX script around the color wheel, but it's not a complete solution to the problem. Namely that FX aren't normalized to a common color, there's no way to dynamically change this 'shift' value, and there's still issues with blend modes.
3) Particle FX most often use an additive blend mode. Additive means that the closer a color is to white (in RBG values), the more opaque it becomes. Secondaries like yellow (255, 255, 0) are more opaque than primaries like red (255, 0, 0). Black (0, 0 ,0) ends up being completely transparent. So to take the Energy Melee FX for example and make a black version or even a dark purple (64, 0, 64) or dark blue (0, 0, 64), we'd have to do more than just shift the RGB values around.
4) Even if the system could accept more than one animation or more than one FX script for a power, we don't have an in game system for allowing the player to choose this themselves. We could make one (probably based off of the costume editor in some way) but it's still another chunk of time to devote to this.
Those are the major issues that I can think of right now, there's other minor little issues here and there but it all adds up to a tremendous amount of dedicated work from multiple departments to pull it off.

[/ QUOTE ]
Nope, not joking, but, yes, being pedantic. The point of economies being a form of PvP is mostly academic and not the idea of PvP most people, or even I, think of when they see the acronym. I was essentially just attemtping to show that there are systems beyond what most people consider and that there is plenty of room for improvement and change.
As for the "Quatloo/Quatlu" thing -- I'd forgotten all about the quote until someone else here on the forums used the term last week. Apparently, I made the same misspelling they did!

I like that shiny new mmo. It's fun and has an epic feel. That's the one thing CoH doesn't have for me anymore. The epic feel. AVs aren't so imposing after 3 years and I never really feel like I'm saving Paragon City, just a few of it's citizens at time.
[/ QUOTE ]
So it just means you're getting tired of the game after so long. Maybe it's time for you to move on, but the reason that the newer game feels epic is because... it's new. For the majority of people I know, after the newness wore off, they went back to CoX.
[/ QUOTE ]
for me, it's not that the newness has worn off, now to me, it's like well... Paragon City is almost like a home now. I know, that sounds really weird being that it doesn't really exist. Things that are done to it and changes are almost like watching changes in my own home town.
I would feel lost if anything at all if the game just say shut down tomorrow. -
As much as CoH/V may have it's flaws, the more I hear about the other games the more it makes me stay with CoH/V. Yes, we've had our rough times where people thought a change was bad(I was definitely one of these people), but in the end everything is fine right now. Plus, stop and think about it, but perhaps we get tiffed about stuff being changed in this game so much that well we like playing it! That "other" game they could probably make a whole ton of changes and player base like mindless drones would just accept it.

And now the Issues are getting smaller and even less frequent? Issue-7 was a lame duck that should come out of Crytic's pockets, not ours. Boasting an increase in subscription numbers while shrinking the Development team down to a skeleton crew while still charging the same price is unnacceptable. I think I've seen enough... I'm tired of getting screwed. This game's potential has finally decreased the the point that it fails to balance the monthly cost and time investment.
I'll be back when/if they ever come around and accept their share of the burden.
[/ QUOTE ]
Skeleton crew? Guys, let's not jump to conclusion here. First, Cryptic Studios hasn't layed anyone off. A quick glance shows we're hiring! Second, NCSoft announced cutbacks, but the announcement didn't specify where people were taken off. Remember, NCSoft is a leading MMORPG publisher. They have LOTS of stuff on the burners...Most of which never see the light of day.
A quick look at our release schedules show that only the first issue was released within two months. The second issue was 79 days later (as noted in this thread). Issue 3 then followed 110 days later, Issue 4 120 days, etc. We started trending more towards 3/year within a few Issues...mostly because we started learning about the production & QA cycle.
Bottom line: CoH remains a success in NCSoft's portfolio. They're continuing to financially support the product for a long time to come...Cryptic Studios loves the game. It's our baby. The game isn't going anywhere!

Can you imagine how powerful the pocket d temp power would be for pvp if it had a reasonable activation time. It would make all escape powers pale in comparison.

You mean there is more to the game than just charging into the enemy and wildly button mashing? Then rezzing, of course...then trying again...
