Quote:I am strongly considering pairing it with Dark Armor. Dark Armor is a very "set and forget" set, with only one click that you'll need to use frequently - thereby minimizing redraw. While DA/ tends to be seen as an endurance hog, using the right form from staff can heavily mitigate that issue (at least until you get a Theft of Essence proc, and then it's not so bad anyways).I've never gotten around to making a tank, but thought I should try, and staff looks like it will be a good option. So, I will be making a tank, am looking more towards resists, and was wondering which primary you like/recommend for using with staff? And, of course, why?
All of the forms can help DA, depending on the situation. -

Most of my recent creations have been mutant or magic. I almost never use natural or science, just because of the backstories for my characters.

Quote:I'm just thrilled that my powerset has some Dev attention being put towards it. I mean, at least they considered it a possibility. His exact quote is:
"With the power sets we're making now, we're actually answering very frequently requested power sets. Extremely frequently requested power sets. And I will go ahead and say this: One of them is not clown summoning. Or carp melee. Or Hamster launching."
Which implies, of course, that if there are two powersets coming up, one is not clown summoning, carp melee, or hamster launching.
The other power set, however... -

They're going to do a heavily requested set? Please oh please let it be Carp Armor/Carp Melee!

It SHOULD be a great single-target debuffer. Basically, it's two main debuffs in the early levels especially are more focused on single targets over the whole group, with the radius being pretty small. It get's a lot more AoE control/debuffs later, which definitely helps. But for a set that is supposed to be a great hard-target killer, it lacks in the one big area that you need when taking down an AV or GM: -regen. At only 50% -regen, it can't floor the regen of these targets, making it less effective than many other sets against these types of foes.

Thanks for the help all, and the clarification on Fade. I'll have to pick that power up at level 24. And this is why you should always double-check powers' in-game numbers when leveling up.

Quote:Well, maybe I need to update my Mid's. If that is true, then I need to both respec already, and plan for softcapping ranged and S/L defense. Thanks.I don't use mids, maybe it needs an update? That's the old fade duration: the last patch changed it such that it now lasts 60 seconds, recharges in 210 and gives 9.375% defense to all. I don't remember what the old defense number was but any way you slice it that's a huge improvement.
-
How are you getting Fade perma? I'm seeing a duration of 15 seconds, and a recharge of 180 seconds. I don't think you can perma that.

So, this is the first controller I've been able to get past level 10, thanks in part to some high-level teams that brought me on, and a Rikti Ship raid that got me up to 22 in a day. But, playing around with it after this, I'm really liking the combo and want to keep going with it. My only problem is that I have no idea how to slot Controllers. What should I be slotting for? Defense? Recharge?
If I'm going for Defense, it seems like ranged defense would be easier to get (especially with the full set of Controller ATO that I have), but if I'm in melee range pretty often, would S/L Defense be a better grab, and can I get that up high enough?
Basically, I need a rundown of Controller basics, and especially on Elec Control, since I have no idea how to slot these types of powers. -
What gets me about movies made from source material that I've read is when motivations aren't clear in the movie, leaving you to remember why people did things in the book. Take the recent Hunger Games movies. There is no explanation for why Haymitch is how he is. Or why Katniss decides to pretend to be in love with Peeta. Those kinds of things becoming jarring to me as the movie progresses. But I know that my fiancee doesn't mind those things at all. To me, it can ruin a movie when somebody does something that seems to make no sense at all to me, but she can ignore those things.
So that kind of argument can become very subjective, because some people don't mind the lack of peripheral detail, whereas I very much notice that it is missing.
Meanwhile, I like the kind of 'easter eggs' in movies. Stuff that's not really relevant to the plot or the peripherals, but is nice to have in there for people to find if they really know the source material. -
The Devs would have to recreate every animation twice* for each new body model they put in. As they add new powersets, this becomes less and less likely to be seen, as it means more and more work for whichever Dev has to build the animations for the new model.
*Why twice? One animation for on the ground, and one for flying. Also, I believe that Brawl alone would need about 40 new animations per model added.
Would I like to see this? Sure! I just don't know how likely it is that we'll get it. -
First page posts updated with some of the latest ideas.

You can already do this kind of thing with binds and power choices, though. Say you run around with just your basic armor going in your normal costume. Then, you can hit a bind to change you to costume slot 4, and turn on tough at the same time. Bam! You're tougher, and your appearance changes to match.

Where is a good place to put the Controller ATO set in this build? Chain Fences?

The Respec system could definitely do with an update. -
Quote:Again, Blasters are NOT "very popular." They may be rolled more than some other ATs, but their actual in-game presence drops off significantly past a certain point. I would say that to be popular, people need to be playing them across a wide variety of levels, not just the early levels.Done. I've tried to create a few Scrappers recently, but found myself rerolling them. Any of the newer sets where the AoE is retained is usually better on a Stalker IMO because you get better ST and decent AoE. And if I want an AoE death machine, Brutes are better because of the better aggro control.
Shield is the sole remaining set that unequivocally favors Scrappers and I already have one of those.
But then, I think the popularity of an AT is irrelevant. Blasters are very popular, but by any account they need a buff substantially more than Stalkers ever have. -
Quote:I do agree with this. I really don't know why this wasn't switched when Stalkers first got the set. Blueside is actually easier to get around in than the other sides. Praetoria is actually the worst. I'd like it higher than 20, but I'd take 20.Sorry if this has been mentioned before, but i couldn't find it anywhere.
Would be great if Permafrost and Glacial Armor were switched in the stalker version of ice armor. As it is we have no protection from energy or negative apart from hide and .75 from wet ice until level 28 (energy aura gets it at 4). So a blueside ice stalker gets the distinct pleasure of going through the nrg/neg heavy posi, synapse and sister p wearing the equivalent of a t-shirt saying please don't hit me. -
Quote:It looks as ridiculous as it sounds, much as it was with Claws on a Brute before they pulled the option for looking ridiculous. It is pretty fun to play, as long as you know that it will look absolutely bonkers.Lol, I can imagine the granite armor jumping up and doing a backflip haha..
Edit -> From a mechanical standpoint, I would think that the only thing that would hurt it is that you won't get much out of Storm Kick. It gives positional defense, whereas Stone Armor mainly gives typed Defense. However, the extra damage buff from Eagle's Kick would help to negate some of the debuff from Granite. -
I think that SSA 2, on the hero side, will be fleshing out the stories of potential replacements on the Freedom Phalanx. On the villain side, I'm not sure what it will be.

This gets suggested every once in a while. The main problems with this is that 1) How do you guarantee that you'll figure out how to fix bugs in a timely manner, and 2) Do you maintain your player population if they don't get anything new for 6 months to a year.
Also, which bugs do you want fixed? What code do you want optimized? Why should the Devs not fix bugs while also creating new content? -
Quote:1) Popularity of an AT is not necessarily an indication of an AT's relative strength, but it can be.
The emphasized sentence is not a reason to buff an AT. Nor is the popularity of an AT relevant to whether it should be buffed. Stalkers performed their intended role, damage, just fine. Saying they didn't perform it 'well enough' is a qualitative assessment.
Stalkers could solo fine and contribute to groups. If they were hurting there, then your point might be sound. But pull away the flowery language and Stalkers wanted a buff...because they wanted a buff.
2) Stalkers were less popular, and that was backed up by datamining that showed that they were leveling slower than other ATs.
3) Stalkers could solo fine, but did so at a slower speed than the Devs determined to be acceptable (otherwise, they wouldn't have gotten a buff)
4) Stalkers could contribute to groups, but did so less than most other ATs (otherwise, they wouldn't have gotten a buff)
Stalkers wanted a buff because they didn't perform their core function well, nor did they perform any other sort of function well, except for one that didn't do well in team play. And even in that role, aggro functions often meant that they couldn't play that team role well.
Stalkers were determined to be under-preforming, so they got a buff. I do not believe you can make a case for Scrappers that shows that they are under-performing similarly. If Scrappers are not shown as under-performing, then they shouldn't get a buff "just because." Stalkers certainly didn't, and it's laughable that you think that's the case. -
So then the spammers just slightly change the name of their site, or slightly alter their spelling of it in-game, so that it is still recognizable and people know how to fix it.
For instance, let's say I run a site that's at www.example.com. The word "example" gets filtered. So, when I advertise for it in-game, I just say, "Go to www.e x a m p l e.com for cheap influence!" Not picked up by the filter, and still easy to read and identify.
Or, I make a site that uses a word that is in common use in CoH, but not necessarily in the real-world. This way, you get a commonly-used word filtered, annoying the actual players, but not the sites, wo will then just change their name again. -
