Quote:But the *effect* for *consumers* is nearly as bad as it was at the worst moment of the Great Recession because unemployment figures are still nearly as bad.The major effect from that might have happened 2 years ago. Think the majority of people who had a need to evaluate if CoX was worth keeping in light of their financial situation decided back then.
With continued unemployment, and the continued decline of average wages and wealth of the middle class, then spending on leisure activities will *continue* to decline. Especially now with the increase in oil and energy costs, which significantly erode discretionary spending. -
Quote:This.This. Emp Merits are your friend. Coming this Friday (May 20th) it will have been possible to have earned 90 e-merits (more actually, but rounding up to 1 per trial per 24 hours for simplicity and practicality) by only running 2 trials (one BAF, and one Lamda) a day every day...meaning you could almost be able to craft 3 very rares from those alone from really very little work (I don't consider running 2 trials a day THAT hard most of the time...1-2 hours really). Practically you may have missed a day and/or there were some extended maintenances in that time frame, but within a week or two you'll have enough if you run as much as you say you do. After 115 runs surely you have enough e-merits to at least craft one very rare, or are at least getting very close.
I purposely limit my iTrial participation to one of each iTrial per toon per night. So, in about 2 weeks, each one will be guaranteed at least one T4.
Probably before I can get them all to T4, a third iTrial should come online which I hope means 3 E-Merits a night.
My objection to the random tables is that the lucky few short-circuit the slow-and-steady route which is unfair to the unlucky. -
1. Even other games have had overall subscription losses recently.
2. At the current rate of decline, CoH only has 5 years left before it's too expensive to keep going! DOOM!
3. The GR bump was a bump from extra box sales. While that did not seem to translate to more ongoing paid subscriptions, it does represent a nice bit of extra income. -
One needs to ask here: Is it really important that the local name and level of the character I'm logged-in as be spammed every single time I say something in that global channel?
Maybe so if it's a channel for putting together leveling-up missions. Otherwise, probably not.
With SuperSideKicking in place, is announcing the level of your toon over and over again ever relevant except for TFs and Ouroboros missions that have minimum levels?
With the ability to click on your global name and invite to team or league or getlocalname, is announcing your current toon's name needed? (Apart maybe for RP channels.)
Those name/level/AT tags take up space and make a chat window scroll faster.
A better solution, IMO, is a bind to announce yourself in the channel such as:
[Zombie Man]: Greetings! Zombie Man here on Nethermore my level 50 Regen Scrapper. What's happening?
And then forget about spamming local name and level with every chat line. -

Quote:Actually, the Devs *fully* expected this.I agree...it's very doubtful that they intended this. I definitely think they did NOT anticipate us owning the trials so quickly. Hopefully the next trials and TF's will be actually challenging. And by that I mean challenging for more than one week.
In early pre-Beta, before we even had the Alpha shift, we were able to get into a groove in completing the iTrials after a few weeks of 50/50 defeats with minimum sized teams.
Throw in +3s and access to 4 Incarnate Powers, well, it becomes easy mode.
So, when certain folks were howling to high heaven that it was too hard, the Devs very purposely ignored them because they knew *factually* that that was not the case.
They knew it would be duo'd and as is happening on Virtue, 'Speed Runs' of Lambda. That's why Tier 4 was gated behind Very Rare drops and time-gated Empyrean Merits. -
It was a really good episode except for one thing:
Auntie and Uncle basically saying: "We're not needed for the plot anymore, so, to avoid the hassle of you having to imprison us for our crime or to save us from our plight, we'll up and die riiiight... now!" <plop> -

Yes. There was a time. Long ago. When I was just a little Black girl growing up in the south of Frahnce. Mamiere would gently lay her hand on the shoulder of my threadbare calico nightshirt to pull me away from watching the barges sail by on the inky molasses of the port bay and guide me to my straw-stuffed mattress and tell me a story of how our ancestors came to this land of warm breezes and fields of wildflowers and how we lost most everything in the Great War and that is why she looked at me with a tearful eye to tell me, Youre movin with your auntie and uncle in Bel-Air. I whistled for a cab and when it came near the license plate said fresh and it had dice in the mirror. If anything I could say that this cab was rare, but I thought, Nah, forget it. Yo, holmes to Bel-Air! I pulled up to the house about 7 or 8 and I yelled to the cabbie, Yo holmes smell ya later! Looked at my kingdom I was finally there, to sit on my throne as the prince of Bel-Air.

SuperGirl - The apocalypse!? Better let Kal El handle it. See ya. No scratch that, you just won't see me again and you'll be worried sick thinking I've died.
Martha Kent - You should really speak to the ghost of your father.
Pa Kent - You need to embrace me so I can tell you to go see JorEl.
JorEl - You had the power to fly all the time, just click your heels three times...
Chloe - I saved you from gold kryptonite, now, time for me to go to Star City and apparently do nothing else.
Green Arrow - No matter how I fight the darkness, I lose, unless you tell me not to, Clark. Oh and check this out: Three magic arrows from no where to kill Darkseid lieutenants. lol.
Lois - blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah
Tess - As a trained assassin, I'll save Clark by killing Lex. Oh wait. No. By wiping his memory!
Lex - My memory is wiped and yet I become exactly like the archvillain I was going to be anyway.
League of Justice - We're with Aquaman talking to some fish.
Metallo - Last time I was on I was a friendly. Why is ToyMan including me in his legion of doom?
Clark - 10 years of emo identity angst relived in one episode. -

Quote:PaymentAny of you guys want to guess how much it cost to rent Alcatraz? also, how long was the party(1/2/3 days)? I used to live in California but left during the boom/bust of 2007. I wish I had stayed now with the tech recovery.
All fees must be paid by credit card only. (We can take the number over the phone.) If you do not have a credit card, contact the permit office prior to submitting your application. Paying your application fee does not guarantee that your project will get approved.
All permit applications require an application fee that is not-refundable. This amount can range from $50 to $1000. It goes towards your permit fee.
There are 4 fees: the application fee, the permit fee, the staffing fee, and "other" fees. Most fees are non-refundable.
Application fee: $50 to $1000. Ask your event specialist for the exact fee. This is non-refundable and does not guarantee that you can have your event in the GGNRA.
Permit fee: $175 to $10,000. Your application fee goes towards this cost.
Management fee: $85/hour. This covers Park Ranger or US Park Police time. For large events, staffing time will be several hours.
Other fees: If you want to sell items at your event, you must obtain a Commercial Use Authorization, which is an additional fee and has restrictions that you should know in advance. Inspection of your tent may require a Presidio Fire Department fee. Staking has an additional fee. When serving food, you will want to use the City of San Francisco's Health Inspector, and that is a separate fee. Your event specialist can discuss these details with you. Events at Crissy Fee have an additional fee, due to the high use of that area.
If a bond is required by the NPS, it must be paid with a money order a cashiers cheque. Bonds can be returned by direct deposit to the permit applicant only. Final payment cost will be determined after we receive your permit application, but we can discuss ballpark figures with you.
Insurance
All large events require a certificate of liability insurance in the amount of one million dollars. The three parties which must be named as additionally insured are: United States Government or United States of America, the National Park Service, and the Golden Gate National Recreation Area
The form should include this address: Golden Gate National Recreation Area, Office of Special Park Uses, Building 204, Fort Mason San Francisco, CA 94123
Forms may be faxed to the Office of Special Park Uses at 415-561-4305.
Failure to follow the regulations noted here may create a delay in issuing your permit.
Once your event has been approved, it may take several months to get your permit. In those cases, we can write you an email stating the approval in writing, so that you can begin the work of planning your event. -
Quote:Sweet, I finally get to roll that /fire defender I always wanted.Ah, you got me on that, I stand corrected. Fire isn't available as Primary and Secondary for every AT. But, every *class* of Powerset has it. There is Fire in Melee, Defense, Summon (Demon), Control, Blast, Buff (Thermal), Assault, and Support.Quote:And that Fire/Fire Stalker. Because nothing says "sneaky" like pyromania and self-immolation. (although FE + AS could be fun)
So, there *could* be Fire/Fire for every AT.
Yeah, that's not the case.Quote:This says nothing of Posi saying at a con/show that ports were done. Just remember the last time ports happened was i16. The Incarnate issue with it being the main theme can't be used since they have made new sets versus ports.
1. Posi was the lead proponent of proliferation, even over Castle's objections.
2. Posi, if he's against it now, is no longer lead designer.
3. Proliferation generates player interest and pre-sold lots of GR. So, you know Production is pushing for it.
4. In the latest Ustream, they said proliferation is not dead, but maybe just not in I21, but maybe yes.

Quote:Malaise has had Dark Illusion for a long time now. In fact, 'illusion' would be more suitable to 'villain' ATs since it's base in deception. Or it would be more fitting for a Defender as a diversionary tactic.Ill can be OP with certain secondaries and lots of set bonuses, but in other cases it's no stronger than other control sets (and in some very rare cases like BaF, it's even weaker than other control sets).
I think the main reason it hasn't been ported to doms was some odd concept thing, aparently they just didn't think it fit with villians. Weather that has or will change, not sure.
Too late for that. Beside some powerset classes already plundered by all the ATs that share that class, one needs to ask *why* a particular power can only be wielded by one particular AT.Quote:I actually hope it doesnt get ported over. Some things need to stay exclusive IMO..
For example, every class has a fire based powerset. And every AT can make a Fire/Fire character. But, in a world where it should only belong to one AT... which one? -
If there were to be a CoH2, everyone should know that there is no such thing as moving one's level 50s into the new game, right?
You can't 'reboot' a franchise and give the players of the original such a HUGE advantage over those who are new to the game. Any newbies would nerdrage out over such an unfair disadvantage.
And so, CoH2 means starting all new toons from Level 1 again. Which would entail an equal amount of nerdrage from those who just refuse to understand why that must be the case.
Either way, CoH2 means weathering a nerdrage tsunami. -

Quote:There's your problem. You don't fight. The designated loser leaves the map immediately to ensure victory for the other.I beg to differ. Less than a month ago, I participated in a SD arena to allow a friend to get the badge. Despite getting offed TWICE by a scrapper then leaving hte match, my Ice/Ice controller got to teh second round instead ot my victor. Then, even though I didn't play int he final, I was the one to get the badge. Still definitely buggy. I petitioned the GMs about it right away but I don't think my friend got the badge awarded.

It's par for the course to lay off a dozen employees and hire just two to work on a brand new game!

Having just recently finishing up my Arena PvP Accolade, let me just give a few pointers:
Pentad
As many have noted in this forum, either a Pentad or Septad win counts for the badge.
Pentad matches can no longer be set up for 1v1 matches. You need at least 10 toons.
Set team size for 5 for Pentad and 7 for Septad. Otherwise it will screw up the placement of players on teams. (You think it would do this automatically... but no.)
Everyone on the winning team will get the badge. It's easiest to set this up for 1 kill and just kill a dude on the other team.
Juggling people around in the interface can be tricky. The pentad display likes to sometimes stick 2 blasters on the same team. The best way to fix that is to kick one of those blasters and switch to freeform teams and manually set the AT types of a space on the other team to blaster and reinvite that blaster and reset to Pentad.
To switch people on teams, kick the 2 ATs and reinvite in order: first invite to first team, second invite to second team.
Survivalist
No longer can be obtained in a 1v1 match. Must use 3 toons or more.
"Battle Royale" and "Free for All" are not choices in the create an event window. You need to chose "Last Man Standing" and "No Teams". All other setting are pretty irrelevant.
The designated "winner" will stay on the map while the others exit (click Score then Exit Map).
Swiss Draw
Many have reported that this is crazy in that the wrong people get promoted to the next round. Well, that may be the case in actual battles, but if the designated "losers" exit the map, I found the "winners" always advanced and the final winner always got the badge.
Use the Swiss Draw and Last Man Standing settings so that as soon as one person leaves the map in a match, the other is the winner. -
Just did Swiss Draw Tournament five times over to get the badge for five of our toons.
Every match was forfeited by a player by leaving the map (click Score then Exit Map).
Every 'winner' moved to the next round as they should. And the winner of the last round got the badge every time.
(Don't know about trial accounts.) -
