I regularly used the buzzcut with facial hair costume pieces, although I don't think that was the original name, but buzzcut is now gone. If you could bring it back that would be nice.

    I loved that hair style.

Plus, any new hairstyles for men, especially ones that don't include visible brains or leaves for hair. I'm tired of cycling through the same 4 hairstyles for my male characters (and how come the only options for long hair are pony tail and, well, dirty?)

    Hey guys, a quick clarification:

The Invention System and the "Legends" System are "one in the same"...

Basically the Legends system, as it was designed, was not implemented, but out of it grew what will be known as the Invention System. The Invention System does what we wanted the Legends System to do, and a whole lot more, and lays the ground work for limitless expandability that the Legend System just didn't have.

As befits the company name, Emmert also hinted at things to come for the City of Heroes/Villains franchise. When I asked him what he was most excited about moving forward, he told me that it was Issue 9. Given they’re still in the
middle of putting together Issue 8, this was a surprising answer. Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait and see what they have up their sleeves.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Would anyone have educated guesses as what is to come in Issue 9, seeing as how Issue 8 is still halfway through its development push?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Statesman is excited about Issue 9 because of the new technology that allows them, finally, to actually make Hickman wear pants. ALL of the time.

    Simple, they're animated characters.
    Cartoon -> Toon.

If this seems frivolous, consider that perhaps your exposure to mature animation is more limited than your exposure to gaming or comics.

I would not call, for instance, "Graveyard of the Fireflies" frivolous or childish. It is a fairly straightforward drama and one of the few movies that can make me cry sober.

On the American side, consider something like "Cool World" which was certainly frivolous in its own way, but was definitely not a 'kiddie' show. Still, many of the lead characters in that were animated.

For me, toon is a reference to an animated character not directly derived from real life imagery. Your 'character' happens to be animated in real time by a computer, but is no less animated than Bugs Bunny.

    My 2 influence of course.

    [/ QUOTE ]
References to Fireflies or Cool World aside, the fact is that "Toon" is a very specific term outside of games that, while derived from "cartoon", carries the connotations of the "Looney Tunes" set of characters and the later "Tiny Toons".

So while, yeah, it refers to any animated character, some people are going bristle at the application of it as much as a mechanic might when called a "grease monkey".

Personally, I prefer to think of my characters as characters. They are not tied to the medium of the game. I would submit that players that prefer not to be called or not to use the term toon do so, whether consciously or not, because they feel their character supercedes their representation in one medium or another. For example, Superman isn't a "toon". He's a character, and has a life beyond comics, cartoons, or whatever.

So, similarly, they are not "toons", but the characters have been made into "toons".

I also feel weird being compared (unintentionally) to Daffy Duck or Bugs Bunny.

    PS: You're despicable.

I use 'char' or 'character', and I always thought it was because I cut my teeth on P&P games. However, one of my best friends and a fellow P&P veteran from many of the same campaigns says 'toons'. My guess is it's because the folks he hangs out with in the game (besides me) all use that term.

    2) Auto Side-kicked/Exemplar SG Missions.
Give that SG Mission Generator a reason to exist. Please allow it to generate random missions. BUT to separate this content from news paper missions have it so that they auto-sidekick everyone to the same level. That would be a real help to super groups.

OK, this is freaking brilliant. This alone would have made all the work we have done so far to build a base worth it, just being able to run mishes without playing the 'alt-game':

"OK, you run Kross and I'll SK Dart....no, then Potamus won't have a mentor...OK, you run Mayhem and SK Potamus...that works."

"Hey, guys, I just logged on - got room for my 39 Kin Defender?"

Should that be "In a world of super-powered chaos "?
  11. Does anyone know if the Empowerment Stations (and the Worktables, for that matter) are supposed to be hooked into the Salvage Storage racks? It would be much nicer to be able to see everything I can make with all my base storage than have to keep running back and forth between the stoarge racks and the other stations, checking recipes and gathering ingredients...

Also... when running my Champions campaigns, my characters were never the *most* powerful supers in the world. I always made sure there were a few very tough NPC heroes that could hand them their butts if needs be. Always good design to do this.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hmm, sometimes yes, sometimes no. I have played with several players who are of the 'History Maker' variety...if their character can't be THE BEST at something in the game, they are not satisfied.

IMO, good design takes into account the needs and desires of as much of the player base as possible. Of course, doing that for 5 people sitting around a table is trivial compared to doing it for tens of thousands sitting behind their computer screens

    [/ QUOTE ]

Feh. I think they should do this with everyone, or spread around some options of choosing male/female characters. Can you imagine a wraithly, beautiful, furious female Liche? Or a tough, tom-boy Commando? Or a hot girl-ninja?

If you get the prestige without getting a present, it's likely the present would have been a) an insp but your tray is full; b) a snowball but you already have one; or c) a Snow Beast but you already have one.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually, I got Prestige when I had open spots in my tray and had not yet gotten any temp powers. It sticks in my head that it was a weird amout, like 176 or something. I wonder if level has anything to do with that? I was playing a brand new 5th-level alt.
  20. [ QUOTE ]
Sure /SR is the best when you're fighting -cons (you can be surrounded by literally hordes of greens/blues and be totally untouched)... but who fights that way?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well...actually, I ran the BP close portal mish with a SG mate's 47 emp defender set to invincible with my 50 SR scrapper, and it was a blast. She could not handle the bosses, which were purple to her (white to me), but held her own against the minions, which were just big crowds of greens that I could wade into if she got into trouble. Good xp for her and lots 'o prestige for the SG. I could see playing that way more often.
  21. [ QUOTE ]
And is it just me, or does it just seem silly to give a set whose sole focus is not getting hit an ability that requires getting hit to activate?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Second that. I think I mentioned it myself about 20 pages ago.

I have not been able to get on test, but my guess from Statesman's words (a minor resist) would be about 5-8%. I have to tell you, one of the respecs for my SR scrapper included Tough, which at the time was 15%. Slotted with 5 SO enhancements was 30%. 30% was nice, undoubtedly overpowered, but nice. 15% was low enough that I could not justify running it for the End cost unless it was a big boss or AV.

The problem is, just like Defiance, once you hit 60, 40 or 20% of your hit points as an SR scrapper, the next shot is likely to faceplant you anyhow, and probably nothing less than 30% resistance would save you. I can remember exactly ONCE in 20-some levels where I hit a string of bad luck with my DEF, got hit several times in a row and went 'Whew! Glad I had Tough turned on!'

The values are going to need to be significantly higher for this to do any good, and they need to be on all the time. I do think SR needs some resistance, but tying it to damage taken is just stupid (IMO).

  23. [ QUOTE ]
Not sure if this was mentioned or not, but I always thought that there should be some types of enhancements that are only droppable. Something better then SOs (maybe like 40% to one attribute), but still very rare. Enough to where people wont easily be able to farm them until theyre maxed out.

Then again, this presents some problems with balance

    [/ QUOTE ]

Oh, hey, that's an idea. And we could make it an instanced creature, maybe in a hard to get to zone. I'm just thinking, maybe, something related to the Devouring Earth....I don't know, like a giant, single-celled organism that takes lots of heroes to defeat, but once you do, gives you an enhancement with a much bigger bonus than regular SOs!

    Naaaaah. It'll never work.....
