So how long do you think this guys character will last before it gets hit with the Mod stick?

I feel a disturbance in the force . . . It's as if a thousand GM's hit the generic button at the same time.

    Hero = EB or AV?

    [ QUOTE ]
Heros are the exact same thing as Archvillains, except for one thing: when your difficulty/team size cause them to scale down to Elite Boss status, their rank doesn't change in the targetting window.

If you were solo of difficulty 4, he was an EB.

    [/ QUOTE ]

but this isn't always the case. Unless they scale down to ridiculously underpowered EBs some times. I have fought Heroes that are well under the scale of EBs.

    Brand New

Since nobody else has pointed to it yet: check out the ParagonWiki. It contains a LOT of helpful information that I would definitely advise reading over.

    But welcome back!

    Hero = EB or AV?

I've noticed some irregularities in the title of Hero. It doesn't seem as much a rank as it does a title for them. It's supposed to be the equivalent of an AV, but I fought two 'Heroes' the other day that were about the power level of a boss or lieutenant.

I think it gets applied to the enemy, and doesn't degrade based on difficulty, even though the powerlevel does.

First off why would you even report someone who did nothing to you. Obviously mommy and daddy never told you being a tattletale is wrong unless you have been hurt in some manner.

Secondly ncsoft is breaking the very rule they generic us for.

Back in the 70's there was a tv show called "Land of the Lost" which has since been remade in to a movie staring Will Ferrell. This is also an area in Skyway City which is called you guessed it, "Land of the Lost". I'm sure Universal Studios bought the rights from Sid and Marty Krofft the original creators who remade the series themselves in the 90s. However I doubt that Cryptic or NCsoft paid for the rights to use this name.

Someone should report them to the copyright holder.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You're kidding, on both counts, right?

There's a big difference between a homage and a ripoff. And copyright violations hurt everyone here.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Seriously.

Eric, have you not heard of the Marvel lawsuit against this game, where they sued because you could make copyrighted characters from the comics? The settlement in that case pointed out that Cryptic and NCSoft (now just NCSoft) needed to take action against copyrighted characters. If NCSoft doesn't uphold their end of the agreement, we could be going back to court. That would siphon development dollars away to pay for the legal defense, which hurts EVERYONE playing the game.

So, yes, I think that reporting obvious copyright infringement is for the long-term benefit of everyone in the game.

I also love how people calling other people out for doing something wrong is being a 'tattletale.' Seriously, the person was doing something wrong. If they can't face the consequences of that, then they shouldn't have done it in the first place.

I'm sorry but using an alternate service is kind of avoiding the whole issue. As I said we texted and that was fine, but I feel like not being able to send tells can drive new players away.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And while this is unfortunate, allowing trials to send tells allows for a LOT of RMT spam in game, which can drive old, established players away even more.

    No Normal Wings?

The unarmored Valkyrie Wings (come with the Mac Pack, that you can use even if you're on a PC) might also work, but would be gotten at a cost.

    Stone Pet !?!

Even in the pictures that we have, it's just the pets having different colors. It's certainly not going to approach one pet turning into three little pets.

    Tanker Offense?

    [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
...little more backup than "but comic book tankers..." which even the devs have noted is not a valid statement.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I disagree with this. We're playing a game based on comic books, so it seems to me that the expectation that the game should behave like the comic books is paramount. That said, Game Balance MUST be retained.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Can't be done. It really can't. Comic books themselves don't behave like each other, within the same series or between different series. Should we have people with the power level of Superman, or Batman? Of the Silver Surfer, or Kitty Pride? Of the Hulk, or Thunderbird? These characters have vastly different power levels, but are all in the comics. How do you get the game to behave like a Silver Surfer comic, and also like the Batman comic? You can't. You just can't.

So, what you aim for is trying to get as decently close as possible, within the framework of the game. This game, at inception, didn't have ATs. You could choose any two power sets you wanted. It was closer to the comics than the game is today, with a wider range of power levels in it. You could have Tank-Mages, and you could have complete gimps, with no offense except brawl. How do you balance a game with that wide of a power level difference? You also have people tending to choose the path of least resistance, often times choosing it over concept. As such, people tended to make more Tank-Mages, able to survive and dish out a ton of damage. It made the game ridiculously easy.

Because of that, the Devs made the AT system. The AT system does not exist in the comics. It just doesn't. You have characters that emulate certain ATs (or, more accurately, the ATs emulate those characters), but you never get exacts. Each character in the comics can usually do something that this game won't allow them to do. The Ancillary Pools try to fill in these gaps to some extent, but can't cover every case. Conversely, we have characters in the comics that would be woefully underbalanced if they came into this game (Storm would have Storm Summoning, but no blasts, for instance; the Invisible Woman would have almost no offense at all).

This game is an MMO inspired by comic books. It is NOT a comic book MMO. It has taken a specific power level, and used that as a baseline for it's characters to have. It then goes from there to work out how each AT will fit into that baseline level. When doing so, it will likely divert largely from the source material. Sure, the Devs can try to keep it as close as they can, but it's not going to be very close. To get closer, you need to not be an MMO, where balance issues don't need to be addressed, and you can just imitate a specific character and not worry about different power levels between your characters.

    Auto sk to 52?

You mean set all of the enemies to level 52? Because you can't have players at level 52.

What you need to do is find an enemy that only spawns at level 52, and set him as a hostage within the mission. The hostage needs to do nothing more than just sit there after you free him (or don't free him, whatever). As long as he is in the mission, it will set at level 52.

Now, that being said, I know of no enemy that ONLY spawns at level 52. However, if you find a level 50 enemy, the mission owners difficulty level might boost the other enemies to level 52, I'm not sure.

I was told in-game to drop tough b/c it was pointless in Ice Armor and just to keep weave! I am trying to fit in Ice Epic's last two powers because of the dud power I have to take to get them! 8(

Also Why In The World Would I Take A Sleep Power (Frozen Aura)? Am I missing something here?

    [/ QUOTE ]

First off, what the two above posters have said about Frozen Aura is correct. It does decent damage. When it used to be just a sleep power, it was almost universally not taken, except by the few Invuln/Ice Tankers out there who's aggro aura didn't automatically break the sleep effect.

As for Tough, if you're going for Weave, you might as well take it. No reason to get Kick AND Boxing to get Weave. Take one of the two (probably boxing), Tough, and Weave. Tough may not stack with your other armors, since it's Resistance instead of Defense, but it can still help (in fact, layering defense types, as you get close to the 'cap' on one, can help more than you'd think.

    No Normal Wings?

The Vet reward wings are exactly what you want. The Vet reward wings were put in first, as kind of the test for how wings would work. The other, craftable, wings cam later, and as such represent the 'closet case' wings in the comic book world. The vet reward wings likely won't change, because they've been a part of the system since it came out. It they were to be put into the craftable wings category, then people who have the wings on a character now, if they wanted to change their costume, would have to craft them first, just to get the wings they have now back.

    In the interest of compromise?

    [/ QUOTE ]

In the interest of compromise I would test and entertain any solution the devs implemented.

That does not mean I'll support any old suggestion or jump on the first idea floated.

I'm going to back and support the solution I think that best addreses concept, viability and performance issues.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    So, basically, not compromising.

What you're saying you'd do is not at all within the definition of compromising.
  14. No, you don't 'need' it, but it is a very useful tool to have with you. I'd say that you don't need two travel powers, and I, personally, would replace super speed with Taunt.
  15. [ QUOTE ]
From now on, take a look at the ATs/power sets/etc. and buff the four least popular with every patch. Keep that up and I guarantee you'll have a level playing field.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Haha...hahaha...HAHAHAHAHAHA. Oh, that made me laugh.

Randomly buffing four things every issue (I don't think you really meant 'patch' there, since rebalancing four ATs in the time it's taken to fix a few bugs isn't possible) just means that you continue to increase the baseline performance.

Say that you have one AT that overperforms, 8 that are pretty well balanced, and 1 that underperrforms. Do you buff all of them up to the level of the one that overperforms? This would require rebalancing 9 ATs. Or, do you adjust the outliers to match the bulk? That requires 'nerfing' one AT, and buffing another.

The latter case is what the Devs tend to do. Dominators are getting a buff because they were underperforming. If an AT is too good, it will get nerfed down. That is how balance is achieved. Buffing everything doesn't create balance, it just changes what's on the bottom at any given time, which means that they then get buffed, and something else is on the bottom.

You do not achieve balance in a game by buffing everything across the board. It doesn't make things better, it takes more work buffing the ATs, and eventually creates a game where all of the content is too easy, because you haven't buffed the enemies to deal with the increase in player power.
  16. There are no attacks that I know of that have two positional types. Things are categorized as either Melee, AoE, or Ranged. I'm sure that they could make a power coded as melee and AoE, I just don't know of any.

There are a few powers that lack a positional type. Most of these fall into the Mind Control powers. They are listed as psychic, but have no positional attack listing.

There may be a few others, but they are few and far between.
  17. [ QUOTE ]
Situation: Assume the only defense bonus I have is 25% ranged (I know this doesn't really happen). A ranged psionic attack is used against me.

What I think happens: The game engine notes that the attack has "psionic" and "ranged" types. It then compares my psionic defense (0%) to my ranged defense (25%) and decides to make the calculation to hit with the 25% defense modifier.

I am by no means a guru on game mechanics, so is that how it works?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes, that is how it works. The game takes the HIGHEST Defense value you have to a particular attack, and uses that to make the attack calculation.
  18. Aett_Thorn

    Shield question.

Take it. Even if you don't put any slots in it, or ever have any teammates in range, it's an endurance-free 5% Defense to stack with your other armors. If you ever do get a teammate in range, it provides even more of a boost.

I have taken it on my Tanker, and solo most of the time with him.
  19. [ QUOTE ]
To me, fitness doesn't necessarily mean stamina, at least, not in the sense that the actual power invokes universally. when you're fit you can run and move faster, jump higher, and hit harder due to your excessive physical training.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Wait...wait wait wait. You don't think that Stamina fits in thematically with Fitness?

Stamina means being able to perform strenuous activity longer. I would wager a lot of money on a runner not being able to run a marathon unless he has Stamina. I would wager a lot of money against a boxer without Stamina, because he's not going to be punching for long. If Lance Armstrong didn't have Stamina, he wouldn't have won those Tours de France.

When you train for running, you can train to run faster (sprinters), or train for stamina (distance runners). And even those who train for sprinting tend to gain some stamina in the process.

to much fear in ice patch and burn lots of knockback more so now than before. A tone of End is used up with having toggles running. Wondering if the new IOs would help solve some of the end usage?

    [/ QUOTE ]

The fear in Burn (there is no fear in Ice Patch) was there before I10. The End usage was the same before that, too. The Knockback from Acrobatics was lessened, but even that should get you through most of the PvE content without getting KBed.

Yes, IOs can help solve the KB and End issues, but there might be simpler ways to solve your problems. Post your build down in the Tanker forums (download Mid's Hero Builder and put together what you have now in it), and we can help make your build better.

Considering that you'd need to drop out of Dwarf form to use it, I'd wager a fair amount of Khelds in Dwarf form would have periods where it's down, especially if they're trying to tank.
