It is just as optional as anything else in the game. You don't HAVE to take part in it if you don't want to. Just as you don't HAVE to buy the booster packs, you don't HAVE to PvP. Hell, for that matter you don't HAVE to level your character, there is absolutely nothing preventing you from stanidng around in Atlas Park at level 1 forever if you decide that's what you want to do.

So many people are saying "The devs are FORCING us to do stuff we don't like!".

No, they really aren't. If you don't want to do something...DON'T DO IT.

Just because something is introduced to teh game does not mean that is the only thing you are allowed to do. I still haven't run Apex or Tin Mage, becuase I haven't felt like it. If the devs were forcing us to do things, I would have done them now because I would have had no choice in the matter. Since I didn't do them, it s pretty clear that choice still exists.

If you feel like you need to do these things to "keep up with everyone else", well, hooray for you. But that is YOUR choice to keep up with others, it was not forced upon you by any external force, like so many people are accusing.
Oh boy, do we love falacious rhetoric.

Costume pieces, emotes and auras appeal to people.

These costume pieces are locked away behind content that the target group do not find appealing.

There are NO other alternatives given to people, and there are only THREE things in the entire game you can do to unlock them. Slowly. By grinding and grinding and grinding.

Ergo, the state of affairs IS forced on people, because there are not only no viable alternatives, there are NO alternatives at all.

Now the devs are finally paying attention to them, and the people who didn't want an end game are throwing a fit because the devs are paying attention to someone else.

Lately the forums have been sounding like an opera singer warming up their voice: me me me me me

Yes, the devs are paying attention to someone other than you. The people they are now paying attention to have been ignored for years, but that doesn't matter, does it? You are more important than them, and are in fact the only person who deserves to get what they want. Right?

That's the sentiment I'm getting out of a lot of people on the forums these days. The sense of: "How DARE they pay attention to someone that isn't me!"

If I were the devs, I'd be honest about the end game. I'd tell people straight up: "Hey, we're finally getting around to paying some attention to the people who wanted an end game, and we feel bad for having ignored them for so long. If you are not one of those people, we'll get back to you. But I'm sorry, you'll have to wait for a while, just like the people we're paying attention to now have done for the last 7 years."

That's because this set of rewards are not aimed at that group. They are aimed, as stated by Posi himself right here, at the non-hardcore group, costumers and roleplayers and such.

Most people who clamoured for an end game, to my knowledge, couldn't give two hoots about costumes and emotes for the most part.
So locking away cosmetic rewards as an 'enticement' for other players is a big fat No-No.

In this case you only have two guns: a rifle, and a pistol. That's less redraws than the original fire melee or stone. The redraws would be similar to dual pistols...which redraw everytime you change ammo.
Except they don't. DP has a very quick flick during the power activation of a different ammo. Heck, I'm not even sure it does if your already mid animation, I have the strong suspicion it might skip it.

And even then, you in fact have three redraws between rifle, pistols and secondary set. It's the same issue that armour and weapon sets have, in that the armour sets, for example, heal is only animated sans weapons. This will always cause redraw and people have proven in posts before that excessive redraw is very unpopular.
  4. Ok, since no ones actually posted the prices yet, and people are already throwing accusations of whining and suchnot around, have a gander at the list from BETA;

First set is in Astrals, Second in Empyreans. Hope you like the grind, ladies and gents, because it costs 401 emp merits to get the entire set of glowy Acension armour. Yes, those costs are per PIECE, not the entire set. The same goes for auras and emotes; the above cost unlocks ONE out of the many.

Please GOD, if there is any gaming justice let it be this.

I was causing my channel-mates to duck for cover recently when I re-discovered the utter cr- I mean, the joy of low level blueside, being sent across whole zones on fedexes, turning them in, only to get sent the OTHER way for a 'Talk to Lt Wincott' mission.

I'll do it myself if I had better tools than the AE and its bugged text boxes to work with! >_<
  6. Yes.
This is City of Heroes. Not City of Grind. I already dislike having to grind TWO things in the entire game because, apparently, the Alpha system wasn't good enough. I liked having choice. Now I have none. I do not find grinding fun, especially if you run into a bad team. Then its very not fun.

And these items are being aimed at the sort of people I already know, the people who DON'T like the ITrials. Why on EARTH would they be happy to grind the damn things more for costume pieces and such?
Answer? They won't. The armour won't just be 'exclusive', it'll be none existant at this rate.

So, yes, I would certainly pay Booster pack prices to avoid that much un-fun.

the game has a new booster and a major villain who used to pop up in every storyline that is steampunk, last time you saw the tsoo do anything?

All the enemy groups need a major overhaul and thematically fitting bases, end of.
However, given the Steampacks release I'd much rather tie that in with more Nemesis bases, giving a revamp to the old Nemesis minions (steam-wing troopers, anyone?) and balance some of their horrifically bland (and cheaty) later level mobs.

The Tsoo need much more diversity in their mobs, more spirit/oni minions, LTs and Bosses, and some actual Tsoo themed bases. Underground opium dens filled with thick carpets and dragon tapestries on the walls, anyone?
  8. While I get what you're aiming for, this set follows the mode that AR used to follow; multiple weapons in one set.

It didn't work for one reason; Redraw.

That, and the Secondary really doesn't fit any model used by current Blaster secondaries, not that I can see anyway.

You are on record as being a supporter of the Resistance.

The Resistance have been using Arachnos forces as allies.

    Ergo, you support Arachnos

  16. Except most people cited the SP faces as being creepy and dicing into the uncanny valley by looking too waxy and abnormal. Whereas the Mutation pack faces were MUCH higher quality. I, for one, would use the bio-armour face all the damn time, were it not for the armour chitin on it and the eye glow.

    With his face.

There was the sickening crunch of metal on meat and bone as the spiked ball came to a juddering halt.
Anderson went limp for a second, only to catch his footing a moment later, the left blade clattering to the floor as he grabbed the chain, pulled the morning star free and then began wrapping the chain around his forearm, dragging Katze closer. The paladin grinned madly, even as the shattered mess of his face began to knit itself back together, hissing through his teeth all the while.

  20. I would just like Dwarf forms transformation not to be bloomin' interruptible when I'm trying to switch to it from being mezzed. Oh, look, stunned. I guess I'll shift. Oh, wait, that Hold means I have to click it again because, for no good reason, it interupted! Oh look, I'm now DEAD. Yay.

This places me in the camp where if I want the cool new auras added free to the game, I have to do trials.

Problem is, I don't want to do trials.

This kind of reward doesn't make me go "Oh yay, I'll do some trials so I can get stuff to look cool." (And I am not talking about the Ascension Armour, I'm talking about the auras.) It makes me go "******* hell I have to do this ***** trial to unlock these things."

So, after paying about, £65 to the game in terms of booster packs and upgrades to make my characters look better, I now have a whole selection of cool new auras done by the FX team that are going to be utterly, utterly painful to unlock.

And I know they're there. I'll see people wearing them. And it will eat into my fun.

Yes, I'm a little bit nuts about this, I know.

    So, how about this?

Paragon Studios, I will pay you the princely sum of £10, no, £20 pounds, for the following:

Cape and Aura Unlock from Level 1
The Auras bought from Incarnate Trials
    The Emotes and Costume Changes.

And you can spend that money however you wish. Back on your end-game, on the art team, or even just on nerf guns for the office.

That means I'm happy, you're £20 better off, and people are happy that I'm not clogging up their iTrials with my low performance.
