Quote:If you have not already you may wish to uninstall the sound card driver, if it survived the upgrade.Thank you both! I will work on that this second. Also, found out that his sound card is one no longer supported by Windows 7, so I'm going to try to disable the window mode and get a new sound card. If that doesn't work, I'll be back with the hijack this results.
Thanks for taking time to take a look! -
I agree the seekers could use work. Three Voltaic Sentinel type entities up part of the time, or one full time, like other t9 pets, would be awe striking. Having it do gleaming bolt, and following you around would be nice. That, I think, would make it a balanced pet for the AT.

Quote:I respectfully disagree.Frankly, PBs are not worth playing, I made mine as a status symbol and be able to say I have one. But I seldom ever play it, in fact since I filled all my slots in Champions, I paid to transfer it to another server to never be played again.
Stormy
I find my PB a pleasure to play - the versatility is wonderful.
With cosmic balance and fitness working in forms now and being able to escape to dwarf from stuns and holds, well, it did a whole lot for the class.
I can sit in nova and blast away non stop. I dont run out of end, simply flying protects me from a lot of damage, and should things get troublesome I can jump into dwarf and have some respectable resistances before cosmic balance. This still leaves me enough spare slots to have both of my primary tier 9 powers fully slotted.
Each to his own. -
Good suggestion.
This tri-form build works for me.
You'll get more advise on in the Kheld area.

Quote:Ya, I have found myself wishing I had stuffed all my alts with various crafted sets and recipes years ago when I had the inf to buy them. Now I make tons more inf and can buy much less.I have complete confidence in the inf. I have complete confidence that tomorrow it will be worth less than it was today, just as today it is worth less than it was yesterday.
When I started buying purples they were in the 30-70 million inf range, lotg were going for 50-70 million, low level steadfasts in the few million range, enzymes, ribos, membranes were all selling for a 1/3 to 1/5 current prices as well.
My only regret is that I didn't have more storage to hold what I felt were desirable items.
I think the better way, perhaps, to look at this whole thread is hours of work to item X. Inf is worth less now simply because its easier to get. -
This makes me wonder, exactly how fast can a lvl 50 get however going?
Using no doubt six slots between hover and fitness.
Anything else affect flight speed? I guess a few IO sets do, not that most people would slot just for that.
I am thinking of my Bots/FF Mastermind who has slots to burn. I dont really want to take attack powers for conceptual reasons, other then the bots of course, and am curious how fast I can get his hover. -
Quote:Funny, I like doing arcs and on the one character I have taken fully though that content I only ever saw, well if the hero/villain counts then two choices. I kept looking for the chances to change sides. Just my luck I probably picked the only arcs that didnt give moral decisions. As a quick addition, the final mission to choose Hero or Villain also counts toward one choice (or it did a few months ago, I haven't seen that changed in any patch notes), so you only need to do 4 arcs, technically, before leaving.
Is there a list of the story arcs and their questions yet? -
Quote:I recently started having the same problem with the self rez for my Peace Bringer. I have a good ping so I doubt it is lag. When a mob does a self rez not even my imps can take them down right away now, yet when my PB tries it is instant gib. I suspect some code got changed with an inadvertent result.Ok...this power seems like it should be good. It never works. Ok...ya it works...you come back to life, but if a boss is anywhere near you, you die immediately again. The big problem I have with it, is that the heal, and the "untouchable" part of it is after 0.25s delay. That sounds pretty quick right? It isn't. Die near a boss, and soon as you are "rising" he slams you back into the ground(and stay there!) cuz you don't have any toggles on and can't even use an inspiration yet. They seem to sneak their attack in while the animation is still activating, but before you become untouchable. I think the kb needs to be higher or something, because bosses seem to resist the kb a lot of times(it's 8.31 mag kb) and the stun(mag 4). Either that, or have the untouchable kick in immediately. Anyone else find this power next to useless unless you conveniently die with no enemies around?
I never seem to have this problem with my /dark scrapper's soul transfer power. I know the effects are different, but that rez is actually useful to me. He could die surrounded by 5 bosses, and rez with no big deal(massive stun to everyone), and turn all his toggles back on no sweat. With my /fire mastery toon, I may as well respec out of it, and go to the hospital. -
Ok, so we all agree our own favorite is most versatile. Not that there is consensus on what this versatile is.
Any objective tests? Gauntlets? missions? A custom AE perhaps to test performance? -
Quote:I think we need to talk about debuffs. For example small as it is freezing rain does do damage. When it comes to it I can think of few powers on my main that dont do at least some damage while debuffing. If it was on Virtue, I'd sign up for this!
Cold/Brawl - Defender.
On another note. I dont know I agree that all controller builds are low to average *only* on damage. Fire/storm in particular has very good damage (though not the only high damage combo), even with out imps. True it doesnt have indestructible damage sponges, and they do make a differences. I point this out because it seemed like some posts were pointing in the direction of saying controllers are superfluous because they dont bring damage.
The fire and illusion primaries do seem to be the best at dealing damage. -
I have a 50 fire/storm.
It is very powerful. As noted end management is important. With the cardiac alpha and a few sets with +recovery and +max end it isnt so much a problem.
Hot Feet is a really strong attack power long before 32.
I havnt tried the other /storm controllers and dont doubt they also have many good points in their favor. -
Quote:Both in pen and paper RPGs (I have characters I have played off and on close to 30 years now) and with MMOGs I tend to go with one of two build philosophies. And a meta question: how many people out there explicitly build for diversity? How many are willing to sacrifice damage or other things to explicitly add something that might only be situationally useful, but you just have to have that utility (for example, no respec of this character is ever going to lack the recall-mutation combination, ever, so long as it exists).
Narrow and focused. For example Belladonna, RPG version, (Realm of War game system) she is a psychic with dagger fighting. She can deal decent damage (class roles are lose anyone can for the right price learn any skill) fighting and her psychic abilities make her very difficult to kill. Her key focus is survivability. Her undead WOW version is a mage. Focus DPS.
Then I have characters like Zep (fire/storm controller). He can handle and help with most any situation. Control, Damage, Debuff, the only thing he really lacks is healing and -regin debuffs. Even his lack of strong single target damage isnt a big deal because he can spawn upwards of nine pet/pseudo-pet's to beat on things for him.
In choosing Zep's powers and slotting I have consistently balanced control/damage/debuff.
Symby, my peace bringing has two builds. #1 tri-form. A tri PB is a master of all trades. I might be blastering, then tanking, then healing. I really am all over the place as needed. Build #2 is all about human form. Which is melee DPS. On a big team he does surprisingly well. I amused myself running the LGTF, with his second build when I realized I was popping light form solely for recovery. It wasnt increasing his resists more then a few percent to turn it on due to cosmic balance.
Most of my other characters are role focused. Storm/elec defender, debuff. Stalker, aoe damage. Etc.
Zep. This is, of course, a work in progress. My main focus right now is increasing +end and +recovery followed by +global recharge while maintaining my damage output. I'll be sticking LoTG Def/Global in steam mist and vengeance as I pick them up.
Cardiac total core revamp.

Quote:Before going rogue, Zep, my fire storm controller was mostly for making money to improve other characters. He farms so quickly and easily. Now that I can improve him again (other then by spending several billion INF) he gets more play time. When I need drops I do missions at 0/8 no bosses and mow things down.I have tons of toons and many 50s spread throughout the servers, but since Going Rogue came out, I've been doing most of the new content with one toon. The rest of the 50s get some attention rarely, and my lower toons get almost no playtime since the Incarnate stuff came about. I've even begun accolade hunting on my main, ninja/dark mastermind, and that's something that I've never done before. It's kind of a pain to imagine getting all my 50s their weekly Notice of the Well, and I have been trying to do so, but it's more trouble than it's worth. So, after I get bored playing on my main, then I'll play with something else. But it's been awhile since that's happened. So, I've been hit with a case of anti-altitis as well.
I am working on getting shards also for my PB. His Tri-form build is decently IO's, his human only form is still mostly SO's.
Hmm, My lvl 40 fire/fire blaster is awesome on teams but doesn't solo super well.
Storm/Electric defender (40) has some procs and hurricane is IO's out. He can solo for days easily. I have some trouble with him teaming just because people expect that I will run into melee and fling mobs around, rather then stay in the back for the most part and debuff/heal/zot. I am very much enjoying my lvl 30 elec/elec dominator. Need to work him up some more he has some nice potential (get it? I like that he plays so different then other characters I have. Hmm thats my 'mains' on Virtue. For red side I play on Infinity. I have three main villains. Bots/FF MM (48 and likely to be my first 50 red side) my lvl 41 elec/elec stalker which I really like (though I fear hitting 50 and trying to get him IO sets). and 'Roots of Evil' my 30ish Plant/Thorn dominator.
So I guess I fail at not having alt-itis, right?
I have at least a dozen more alts, more blue side on Justice (since I ran out of room on virtue) though only two over lvl 20, a 25 dark/dark scrapper and a 46 Fire/Kin controller.
I made Excellerant, the fire/kin just to settle for myself the debate that raged one time about what controller build was strongest. -
Quote:Are you on Virtue?I actually imagine Fire/Storm would even be better, since most of my fun comes from the Storm side (but I wouldn't wanna play a Storm/* defender, since I'd sorely miss the AoE immob w/the -KB).
Anyone else having fun on their Ice/Storm? Share the love.
Thats where my Fire/Storm controller and Storm/Electric defender live. Maybe we can team up?
Maybe we can make an all stormy TF? ITF? -
Quote:That is an interesting idea I never thought of... Using multiple characters to conceptually increase the abilities of one "person"As for people more dedicated than me, I have known some roleplayers that only play one character. Even when they have alted, they've abandoned them after only a little time, preferring to go back to their main. Also, I know a few people, including myself who use different powersets for the same character. So if I fancy scrapping, I have a Katana/Dark version of my main with the same costume and bio (although you could call this cheating).
I have two 50's at the moment. Fire/Storm controller and a PB.
A good portion of my time goes to Zep, my fire/storm. I have maybe five others that get some regular attention, Like my PB. When I am in a mood or feel like something different I'll go find one of my many alts and get a few levels. I've got three or four in their 40's now. They'll start needing at least a common Alpha soon. -
Quote:Not a viable answer for me. Yes I think the class could use some work. No I am not willing to shelf my 50 PB.My humble suggestion to fix the Epic AT problem there. Play a VEAT. Leave the Khelds for the Devs to play with. I wish if they Devs played, they had only the option to roll a Kheldian until they show the Kheldians some more love.
My tri-form build I rather like.
Getting my 'stalker' build working does seem a challenge. Funny thing is he works much better on a team then solo. Did the LGTF with 80% damage resist (give or take a few percent) mag 3 mez resist and was doing good damage with a mostly SO based build. (Still buying IO's for the new second build)
In the Tri-Form build, I use dwarf for when I start taking damage or need to deal with mez problems. I both solo and team with Symby, the annoyance of having dwarf interrupted can be a problem solo with groups like Carnies or Malta. Less of a problem on a team though. -
Is there any easy way to check on all the procs? It would certainly be nice.
I once read about a list, on paragon wiki maybe, of procs not working and what powers they dont work in, cant seem to find it however. -
Quote:NCsoft would be off the hook for any kind of visa fraud that was not caused by their own negligence. Visa takes the hit. The only thing they lose out on is reputation. But less chances for NCSoft to be sued if the card details are snaffled!
If a central server holding personal information is hacked (as Anonymous' recent bit of SQL injection and SE have shown is possible with HBGary) then the company is personally liable if it can be shown that their security issues are ultimately to blame. If someone has a DPI node on your line or (somehow) has a data exchange DPI node or you're using an unsecure network then that doesn't make NCSoft liable for your card details funding some anonymous criminal.
It puts you at greater risk, but them at less risk.
Not a clue.
A method others have posted is paying through paypal: send your friend x amount of money for their paypal account to use as funds for the booster pack.
Visa rules are pretty specific. For example the contract most retailers have signed does not allow for them to ask for your ID or any other personal information if the card is signed. Mind you many ask in violation of contract and you could fuss and complain and get visa on their back.
Visa makes money off every transaction. Up to 2% or more. Small transactions, (under $10) depending how they are processed can be charged .50 each. It would make since for the Ncsoft store to change to lower costs and make things easier for the consumer.
As to the prepaid cards: It depends on what verification systems the Ncsoft store uses with visa (mc is the same auth system). If they use the more advanced and secure "verified by Visa" system that wants to check the name, address, zip on file then no it wont work. If they dont use verified by visa it should work fine. -
Quote:Safeguards are good. Locking it down so tight as to be customer hostile is not. It's to prevent someone who manages to hack your account buying themselves 50 copies of Going Rogue or such on your dime.
I think it is a good suggestion and have wondered myself.
In the same light, I purchased some boosters at the same time and found it annoying to put my card in each and every time. More chances for it to be stolen in transit etc if we are being totally security minded.
There are web interfaces for sale to set up a more standard cart/checkout system. The ability to gift to account X and/or order a card with a serial number isnt to hard to set up. -
Quote:Mommy told him to get off the computer NOW!STF. Ahhh, so, we get all set up. Leader is friendly and helpful, we are cooking right through it. I'm impressed. What a great pickup group. True professionals. Even those with little experience are keeping up. Leader is very happy. Say's we're awesome.
We get to Dr. Aeon. Leader quits. Leader had the temp power. No goodbyes. No reasoning. Not a disconnect. Then, one team members says he was warned that said leader is horrible and he should never have joined.
It irks me. We were doing so well. Why? Why did he do that? At first, I figured hey it must have been a huge crisis. I've had that happen before where I had to log without warning.
But this was a quit, then log. Plus, a few people said it was typical of this leader.
I still can't figure why, if we're rolling and going to finish way ahead of schedule and get shiny rewards, would he just drop close to the end (or there abouts). No wipes, no runs no errors. -
I have a fire/storm controller at 50, He is my first character. (see start date and a storm/elec defender at 40.
My experience with storm is that only (IMO) gale is a suck power, it just blows.
The rest all depend on what you want to do with the character. Many of the powers have been discussed above, in addition to those suggestions, Snow Storm is an awesome debuff. The game engine was changed at one point because of Snow Storm + Freezing Rain, slotted with maybe one slow SO each could reduce mobs to being unable to move. Now there is a minimum movement rate which the two powers can easily reduce an entire spawn to crawl speed. Snow Storm also has -recharge and is a very good debuff FOR AV fights.
The Achilles -20% damage resist proc can go in both freezing rain and tornado.
I dont know, does the Dark Immob have a -kb power like the fire Immob? If so you can negate the KB of tornado and lightning storm as you wish, on teams where people can find it disruptive for example. When solo and/or when a big fight (oops multi-spawn pull tank is down) all that KB can stop a wipe.
Hurricane can be slotted to do some gross things. As I recall my defender has it slotted to give -60% to hit and has two procs in it for - recover and -recharge. Since I corner groups a lot they seem worth wile to me. Not everyone agrees.
Tornado stuns, it is just good for control + damage, fire and forget. It can also take an immob proc to stun and effectively hold as well. I have watched tornado sit on an immobed (or randomly pushed into a corner) boss and eat them alive. It can hit up to five targets. Tornado also has a good -Def debuff as well.
Lightning storm hits hard (for a defender/controller) fires on its own and just keeps going and going. With recharge they can be overlapped. Back before the hasten nerf I could keep two out full time. Now I get significant overlap. Lightning Storm like Tornado can also hit up to 5 targets. It will strike the closest mob to you and has a small AOE. It can take the devastation 15% chance for hold proc which I regularly see go off.
Thunder Clap has a short recharge for an AOE control power. It can be used frequently with the right slotting. Some of the stun sets have good bonuses.
Dark/Storm would give you a lot of debuffing -Acc -Def -Resist all in all it seems like a good mix. You could build to do good damage with debuffs. I see a lot of viable ways to build the character depending on your play style and goal.
Since both Tornado and LS are not limited to one use they can both be overlapped with even moderate recharge and as recharge gets better they can both be out more.
A last thing to consider is that melee heavy teams wont like tornado unless you lock down the mobs with -kb. I can appreciate not wanting to chase down multiple targets. Storm is not appreciated by everyone and can affect your ability to get a team. If you properly use Hurricane and Tornado however the KB is minimal.
Edit - just took a brief look at the build. IMHO Tornado and LS are powers to slot heavily. I use 6 slots on both characters for each. With tight slotting I could see them down to maybe 4 each. Also dont forget Storm is an END hog. If your going to use toggles with Storm IO for +recover and +max end and plan for the cardiac Alpha. -
A few thoughts, IMO:
I have always though of assassin's strike as my sniper attacks (and wished I could slot decreased interrupt time). Though in a team I use AS much less then solo. I do play Elec/Elec, which has gone from being the 'suck' stalker to the 'good' one in the time I have played him.
A cluster of 'sniper' like attacks would alter the AT significantly, as mentioned above the activation times would need to go down some for this to viable. It does fit with the assassin theme of the character. I still don't see it being very viable however.
I do have two characters I can think of right now that use sniper attacks and in fact thrive on them. Two are 20 or lower, one in the 40's. All are defenders with some level of END shortages. For the higher level one, Storm/Elec defender, running steam mist + hurricane and then opening with Freezing Rain, Lightning Storm, Tornado and Voltaic Sentinel leaves him pretty drained. Solo he uses Zot as a primary attack because he can push mobs into a corner, have the other three powers chewing on them and since they cant hit him due to hurricane he can Zot away (and not End crash). In teams he hangs back, and focuses more on debuffing + healing with the occasional attack, using Zot or other powers.
That is a pretty specific set of circumstances to make the sniper attack useful as the 'attack chain' my other two defenders are similar in they sit back buff/debuff and snipe.
So, I like the idea of improving the stalker, to make it easier for me to get a team, though to be honest I really have never had a problem (as of yet) compared to any of my other characters (except my fire/kin who people bug). I dont know this is the right path to go down. I do certainly agree with brining up the idea however, as we never know what will be a good fix or spark a Dev into a good idea on how to 'balance' the AT better as a whole compared to other classes.
I am thinking adjusting the +3% crit per party member stalkers have as a class feature to perhaps +4% would make for a good fix, but who knows. I do know on a big team I like getting all those crits and seeing big numbers as I AOE away. To bad LR cant crit though. It is up fairly often however so I guess it balances out. -
/I agree.
I dont see the point to making group fly only usable in effective raids.
Given the tendency of people to fall out of group fly isnt that a big enough penalty? -
Quote:Not a problem in WOW and I suspect other games. Though those game require strong guilds and tight raiding schedules (and associated drama/elitism) to work the higher level content. Something I hope to not see in COH.I'm not worried I'll be feeling weak. I'm worried that casual and newer players will feel weak, and this will turn them away from the game.
I like the idea of the new 'turnstile' system, is it for all TF's? Or just the incarnate ones? -
Quote:I've been wondering about that too. I have played WOW off and on, and enjoyed the game. One thing I dont care as much for in that system however is how the end game is based on trivializing previous max level encounters/instances.I'm more concerned about what will happen to the existing lvl 50 Task Forces and missions. I've been doing the ITF and LGTF on my +1, and unfortunately what was previously pretty easy is now so simple that it's kind of boring. The other TFs have exemp mechanics to protect them somewhat from power inflation. I'm curious about what day to day will be like once becoming full on incarnate, since you obviously can't run raids all the time.
With LK once I hit 80 and got my gear to say TOC 10/25 level the heroic runs became largely pointless. And with a 5-man full of equal geared people boring.
I see one key difference in that lvl 50/50+ content will always drop the same IO's. The 'gear' drops from ITF wont get worse by comparison. That is unless/until the new super orange level IO's for level 55+ mobs or some such start coming out. Something like that would start the WOWish end game path.
