  2. LOL, I thought it was a little odd that you had done that.
  3. Thread necros are bad, m'kay?
  4. 1) I'm betting that the Devs are going to do something along the lines you suggest, with Ancillary pools open to all ATs, and then Patron/Phalanx pools open to their side.

    2) Just one little note: respec, not respect. Respec is short for respecification, so there's no need for the 't' on the end.

    Hurdle

Yeah, hurdle has no effects on it whatsoever. I would blame the piston boots as well, if you have them.
  6. Not likely. It could be a box, a crate, or some other object. If you have your sound on, it will make a pulsing <Woooom Woooom> sound when you get close to it. The closer you get, the louder it will be. For that mission, in the big room with all of the large containers in it, check behind the containers, as there are some pockets back there where the object might be.

    Taunt. Why not?

By the way, found this from the OP in the Brutes forum:

    Quote:
I have been playing brutes as my primary characters since I started the game. They looked like the best then, and to me they still do. I have done some exploring of the other character types, and am only really happy with a brute. I leveled a few tanks to 50, to understand brutes better mostly, in the AE system, about one a week, different power sets. Tanks need taunt. I get that. But do brutes need taunt?

My current character is a SS/Will brute. I do not have extra power slots to throw away (who does?). I need the shields from fighting set to ungimp will, so there goes 3 powers, even though I rarely use kick (altho the graphic is cool). I have a lot of global recharge, so i basically KO, Haymaker, Mu lightning, FS, and MU lightning - arc, a lot, rarely backing down to kick/punch/air sup, unless someone hits me with a severe -rech. Ah yes, I took fly (love that power) so I got air superiority. What I am saying with all this is my dance card is pretty full, and it already has a few powers like kick and air superiority that are cool, useful sometimes, but not desperately needed. Do I really need taunt? Do other brutes use this (besides stone, the only tank redside.)

The reason I guess it is bothering me is I started doing some "master" strike forces - no deaths, and very cool players. Kinda lucked into the group. Problem is, from time to time one of them will say "brute, taunt the X" And I am like looking at my feet sheepishly. I always go out and get the agro, but taunt? Dude, that power choice has never even been on my radar for a brute. I just tend to wander up to the EB and lay one across hs jaw. Seems to taunt him and most of his friends as well.

    Any thoughts?
I like how he justifies not taking Taunt on Brutes with pretty much the same reasons that I gave in my first post here, but then doesn't seem to get the same logic applies to many Tankers.
  8. And those that pay for it, that will become 60 month Veterans, then get nothing for the 60-month reward?

At the top of that page, you can view by origin, by level, or by zone, to help you get a feel for them.

ParagonWiki is a great resource to use, and you should bookmark it, if you want to!
  10. Well, looks like I was wrong. From ParagonWiki:

    Quote:
Toggles that are suppressed will continue to drain endurance and provide mez protection, but all other attributes will shut off.
I'm not sure if the resistance values of Acrobatics will still be in effect, but I would wager that they would be.
  11. Yes.

    Yes.

If I recall correctly, that is. Since it's a self-only toggle, it won't turn off, but the effects won't be applied, either, so you will lose the hold and KB protection if you are mezzed.

I spent time on quite a few teams explaining that Rooted gave a regeneration boost, minerals gave psionic defense, tough was a better choice than stone skin since it also soft-capped smash / lethal and unlocked Weave, taunt was a requirement because I could strip aggro off in a heartbeat, and the other defensive armors made perfect platforms for Luck of the Gambler and Gift of the Ancients speed procs.

When AE hit I had long since payed to move my avatars off of Freedom, but I still saw around 15-18 stone tanks hanging around AE on various servers with just those 3 primary powers, all of their secondaries but taunts, and loads of pool powers. It was certainly uncommon, but there are players out there that make those power choices.
Quite possible, but I'd say it's much rarer than the people with Stone Tankers that keep the powers.

    Rock Armor.

And given Fire_Minded's ability to see one person do something, and then immediately turn it into a huge trend, I'm not sure that I believe that a lot of people are doing what he says they're doing.

Every Stone Armor Tanker I've seen has usually kept at least Rock Armor and Minerals, to drop out of Granite when not needed.

Look, I'm sorry, but until they send me my own personal Arachnos mini-sub, I'm not going anywhere.

    Taunt. Why not?

Yes, heaven forbid the Tanker have fun. As long as the team is surviving, what does it matter if he has Taunt or not?

    Quote:
Bringing the aggro cap into this is irrelevent, if you are at the aggro cap then people have to be careful even if every power you have is a taunt.
Which is exactly why it IS relevant. If you can't handle any aggro whatsoever, then you're going to have problems in the game, unless the Tanker does nothing but Tank, which isn't his job. Notice how his secondary is full of attacks. The Tanker can use them, you know. If the Tanker is at his aggro cap, then having Taunt is useless for the most part. If he isn't, the other tools at his disposal can hold aggro. Does the power Taunt make it a little easier? Yes. But it is not the only tool that he can use.

    Quote:
But if you aren't at the aggro cap (And there is no way you will always be there) having Taunt is pretty much the safest way you can pull the aggro away from the squishies without running around like a headless chicken.
If I LIKE running around like a headless chicken, and can hold aggro efficiently while doing so, then I don't need Taunt, do I? Again, it comes down to the Tanker being able to hold the aggro, with or without Taunt.

    Quote:
Sitting in a pile with 16 mobs round you is very easy without Taunt, its not you being an awesome player able to do it. But when the situation doesn't let you get them all close to you (Maybe an immob happy 'troller) then Taunt becomes your friend. Taunt also makes it that much quicker to get the mobs round you in the first place.
So then it is the Tankers job to make up for the mistakes of others? Why is that? Also, Taunt does very little to get the mobs around you in the first place, compared to a good AoE attack.

    Quote:
Overall there is no situation where I would think "Damn I wish I didn't have Taunt", but there are lots of situations the other way around.
Which may be true for you. For me, it may be that I wanted another attack (which generates Threat, look at that!), or maybe some more defenses. If I can put Taunt into a build, I likely will. If not, I will still do everything I can to hold the aggro.

    Quote:
Also Taunt sets get some great set bonus'
Which are not dependant on the Tanker actually USING Taunt, mind you.

Look, the thing is this: Taunt is a great tool for generating aggro. It is not the only tool. As long as the Tanker can do what you call his "job," whether he has Taunt or not, then it shouldn't matter.

    Mezz and pvp

    How would we know?
  17. 1) Okay, you've taken Tough, but you haven't taken either your basic S/L resistance power, Charged Armor, or your Mez protection power, Static Shield, unless I missed something. Those two powers are two that you're going to really, really, REALLY want.

    2) While Mid's will let you take Super Speed at level 8, know that that option is only available to 60+ month vets. Unless you are one of those, you'll have to wait for level 14 for that.

    3) Conductive Shield should get some more enhancements in it. Any set can work for you, since I don't know what you're going for.

    4) I'm not sure if Hand Clap is going to be all that good for you. While the added survivability might be nice on a build like yours, I think it'll end up adding more frustration than you'd like.

    Taunt. Why not?

No, it doesn't. But it is quite useful. That does not make it necessary.
  19. Aett_Thorn

    Taunt. Why not?

Now, since we haven't done this in a while, anyone have some good BBQ recipes they'd like to share?
  20. Aett_Thorn

    Taunt. Why not?

Because some Tankers can hold aggro without taunt.

Tankers have other aggro control tools at their disposal, including Gauntlet and their aggro auras, which should still let the Blasters and Scrappers go balls to the wall on damage, and be fine.

Because some Tankers don't want to be Tanks, but are limited in their powerset selections if they were to choose another AT, especially blue-side right now before GR comes out.

Because they don't need to take Taunt.

Because they'd rather have another power that they think would be more useful.

Because they'd rather have another power that they think would be more fun.

    Any of those work?
  21. Yes, I did, especially since I have one of these on test.

    New Weapons

I agree with Ms. Punkette, that we need more 'mutant/magic/tech' powersets in the future, and less weapon powersets. WE've got a lot of those right now, and I'd rather have some flash than slice. Give us some more power sets like Energy Blast and Earth Armor, something with a little more gusto, if you know what I mean.
  24. Aett_Thorn

    Hey

    First off, hello.

Secondly, check out the Suggestions and Ideas forum. I mean really, really check it out, especially Lady_Jade's Power Suggestion Box. Flesh out your ideas. What would these sets look like? What would separate them from other, currently existing sets? What would the nine powers in the sets be?

Right now, you've got the very start of an idea. Try to finish it up some.
