Hurdle

Can we remove the crazy particle effects on Hurdle? Every time I jump, my screen is filled with the "smoke" particles from Hurdle, and it lags me for half a second. Are they really necessary?

I'm almost willing to just respec out of the power because it's so annoying.

I'm pretty sure it's not hurdle though. Sprint has the dust cloud. I don't know any auto powers that have VFX at all.
Yeah, I'm aware that I can change the max particle count, but it changes it for everything, not just the annoying thing I'm seeing. Further, reducing it helps, but I would have to reduce it to almost nil levels to get it to stop lagging me every time I jump, and that would make the whole game look dumb.

I know sprint has the dust cloud too, but I have sprint toggled off (for this same reason). I can only assume that it's hurdle since it only appears when I jump and when I land.

Hurdle doesn't have any visual effects. No auto power does.

Question: are you wearing the Piston Boots costume part by any chance?

The Piston Boots put out a particle-effect smoke/steam/dust cloud every time
you land from a jump (any jump regardless of powers/height/etc).

While as said, you can adjust the particle effects, I really wish they would do away with the base ability effects entirely. I mean, why are they there save to remind us "dummies" that we have a power on? C'mon already.

Yeah, hurdle has no effects on it whatsoever. I would blame the piston boots as well, if you have them.

Are you sure it's not Super Jump? I know that has the particle effect you're describing.

While it's easy for me to say this as someone who has a high-ish end computer, and at the risk of coming off like a rich snob (which I am not), I still can't help myself. For that, I apologize.

If jumping causes your computer to hiccup, it's probably time to upgrade.

It's not Hurdle. Hurdle has no graphical effects, not even a different jump animation. Piston Boots (crafted costume piece) creates a cloud of steam when you jump or land. Combat Jumping and Super Jump have particle effects. And there was a bug a year or two back which had one of the Safeguard/Mayhem mission temp powers "stealing" Combat Jumping's graphics on characters with both the temp power and CJ, but that was fixed.

This isn't an out of hand dismissal, I was playing my newest character last night, with just Hurdle for getting around (one more level to pick up CJ) and I didn't have any particle effects. You've got something else causing it.

Yeah, you guys are all correct.

It was a costume effect I must have put on there ><

I feel like an idiot, serves me right for posting on the forums after a 2 year absence and thinking I know what I'm talking about.

np, don't feel dumb, we all have our moments.

Me, an avid stalker player, had sworn up and down that the 'hide timer' was only 6 sec but it's actually 8 sec.
