Quote:Ok! hello fellow scrappers. To be quite honest, i am in LOVE with scrappers. Ive tryed other AT's only to take a couple faceplants then trade the concept an costume for a scrapper counterpart! (elec or fire blasters have been changed to elec or fire scrappers ;p)
But anyways, to the point. Ive tryed every type of scrapper primary to atleast 14, EXCEPT for one! Spines. Now i hear spines is actually pretty awsome, an has alot of AoE potential. The problem is i am VERY concept oriented and i just can not happen to come up with a good costume an concept for a spines scrapper.
Now with issue 16 the options have been opened up a little bit, but i am still at a loss. Does anyone have some suggestions, or creative tips, to make a spines scrapper i can love and stick with! thx
I'm the same way: Got to have a concept and decent costume in-line or else I can't enjoy it.
There are a number of ways to use Spines
Mutation: Born with an extreme amount of calcium growing your bones faster than anyone thought possible, or you contracted a terminal illness and you somehow got cured, but your spines were a side effect
Science: Experiment gone wrong / Test Subject and overgrown bones/thorns/slate spines were a side effect. This is what I used for my Spines stalker, a spy who went through an experiment to make him 20x more effective, and now he gets a weapon better than any gun can provide!
Magic: It's magic, anything can be explained with it. Gem, Hex, self cast spell (from your secondary set) or even a favorite of mine, coloring your spines say red and saying they are fire / lava spikes
Technology: Really works best with Metal Thorns (at least to me) can explain it as your suits weaponry.
Natural: Alien from a planet who have this ability. Natural is hard to explain with anything other than alien to me if it's anything other than Martial Arts, Super Strength, or the Swords and Devices and Traps. You know, something any ordinary Joe can get a hold of.
Costumes will depend on what kind of origin, however going no cape regardless I think looks the best, the spines impale your cape and make it seem as if it should be falling off, esp. if you get Quills...
Just my 2cents, hope it helps with your creative block. -
Quote:That's funny, cause I was just looking at Smilin' Joe's guide to DM.Hi, if you intend to go in zone later, maybe dark/regen can be a good.
Do you have any leveling builds I could work off of, I'm good with end-game builds, just leveling up I normally pick powers that aren't good till fully slotted or like 2 attacks until 30...
I do have Sands of Mu btw. -
Hello Scrapper forums!
I've been a fan of scrappers, but I've never really leveled one to see their true power, so I want to try again.
And this time, I want to solo it to 50! What fun ()
Does anyone have any advice as to what works/whats fun?
I think the only thing I don't wanna do is Broadsword, fore I don't like the animations, and Dual Blades, because I would love to go into a PvP zone with it, and not epic fail...
Secondaries as all fine, though Dark Armor is iffy, I had a DA tank and I could never truely enjoy it...
But, besides that, if theres any fun combo I'm defiantly willing to try it out.
Edit: If this helps anyone I do have the capabilities to solo farm money for IOs however I don't tend to IO anyone until 50, I've lately not even been common IOing till 50. So, picture me running this toon with SOs. -
I play a level 50 Ill/Emp on Champion. She is by far the best support char I've seen.
While the Spectral Terror Scares, the PA tank, and the Phantasm do your dmg, you can focus on heals and buffs, you can even throw in the occasional blind and AoE blast from your epic pool.
Solo though, Mine can do just fine, and though it may not pump out super AoE dmg, (maybe thats just my ST oriented and Team Oriented builds fault) with enough +Rech IOs I dunno, you might even be able to try and AV? Might take a while though.
But, I'm biased, not only have I never played anyother Emp toon but I have only played other Troller primaries with the Uber Powerful Kin and more recently /Cold. (Who's a blast atm. Earth/Cold) -
How do you invite villains to duel with ya?
... Oh, And /arenalist is a godsend to those wanting to find duels in zones. You start a match, fight, and it tps you to the exact spot you where in the zone just before the match started.
Oh, and the OPs list is ok 'cept for everything pertaining to the Fight Club Police. At least to me. FCP is uh... annoying. -
Quote:I don't know about it being "not that good" This build looks promising. It's not that good, so you probably won't find much out there. Given the I16 changes to the set I'd probably focus on +HP and +rech, and fit in extra KB protection because the 15 points it gives you in-set won't be enough for most KB (normal KB protection toggles have 10,000% KB resist attached, Grounded doesn't, and requires you to be on the ground). I'd pick up Acro and slot up some -KB IOs, try shooting for something in the mid-40s (should be easy with Elec).
Just have an attack chain of Kick->Flurry and use Siphon Life when needed.
Elec armor is very appealing now because of TP Protection, End Drain Protection, nice resists, and a good self heal w/an attached +Regen Boost to it while it cools down. Dark Melee just adds another heal if you need it.
Of course, it would take forever to find all the PVP IOs in this build and it would drain so much money but it still looks kick-butt...

Quote:Here's what that patch note is talking about:
Previously, getting mezzed would suppress knockback protection toggles - that includes just about every in-set mez protection toggle as well as Acrobatics. What'd end up happening would be the Dom would mez the target, effectively disabling their KB protection, and then use Levitate to KB them. Now that's fixed so you shouldn't be able to KB a melee character through their mez protection toggle at any time (as it should be). Acrobatics no longer suppresses (previously, you might have 35 points of protection, but Acro made up 9 or so of those, so if you were mezzed you wouldn't have enough to stop Levitate) so the issue is the same there.
Building for enough mag to stop Levitate in a DR-off environment will ensure you won't get KB'd by it in a DR-on environment, since KB mag slotting and KB protection DR at roughly the same rate.
Oh, ok so that only effects toggle mez.
I guess this is a different question, but it's still about knockback:
So, how hard of a KB mag does Levitate hit for? Maybe it's mids, but on that it says with a full set of Kinetic crash it gets 12, but why then do people say 32 is needed to effectively block it? -
Quote:...On grant invis, no.Also I forgot: Do the damage bonuses when placated or hidden help the ninjas much in pvp anyways? and did Grant invisivility give a hidden status to the henchmen, allowing them to do the bonus damage(I'm guessing no)
...Only the jounin stealth, and thats because they can crit. They are like 2 pseudo nin/nin stalkers without the great def or heal. So, it helps. It's even cooler when you cast smoke cloud on the Oni and he crits with Fire Blast and the DoT from it.
...So, basically, ANY +dmg helps, and instead of just general +dmg from thugs assault you get more bursty dmg with crits, though they aren't constant like thugs.
...I have not played thugs past 22 so I only know how annoying trying to manage that Arsonist is... -
I noticed a recent patch saying something along the lines of "Knockback no longer suppresses when mezzed" or something like that, I don't feel like looking it up.
At first I thought that if you say, cast a hold on someone, and then say (for a mind dom) levitate. The hold would somehow make their normal protection to Levitates levitate not as great, so they still get thrown into the air.
Now, after hearing people chatting, it makes me think that you no longer need a normal 32 mag protection to = a 12 mag protection due to DR.
But, what's the deal? Should I still build for 32 mag protection? Or can I save the slots on -kb to say Winter's Gift: 20% Slow resist, you know, something that would help me more if only 2% of people I encounter will be able to pass a 12 mag attack...? -
-
Straight Up-Only kill other players? I believe player kills do not grant xp, and only Inf rarely.
If you hunted the AI in the zones as long as you were under the zone level, sure, it would take you a while though.
You could do nothing but the missions in PVP zones, if your willing to risk getting ambushed before you get to the door.
PvP Isn't exactly a place to level your character, though it would be fun to. Oh, and there's no trainers in PvP zones, so, if you level up you have to leave, train, and comeback...Same goes for enhancements.
I think it will just be tons easier to just level in pve, and go enjoy pvp when your build is ready. -
I have a fire/ troller at level 50, and while you can change the color of their appearance, you can't change the attack color. I have Black Imps, Purple Imps, and Blue Imps, and they all use the Legacy Fire Colors for their fire brawl.
-
Does that include powers like Super Speed and Hasten? PLEASE tell me yes! I'm getting tired of that same 'ol yellow hand fever.
Though if the Devs are looking at this: Please make a No FX Option for all the Travel Powers, Some of my characters can't use the lightning cloud without it going agaisn't theme...but SS is just the best way to get around... -
I really want a mastermind. I love the concept of minions doing your work, and I've seen them take AVs with apparent ease. But for some reason, all the MMs I've had just arn't doing it for me.
All the serious MM's I've had are:
-Robot/FF (Next to invincible, but too darn boring)
Level 39
-Merc/Storm (Mercs were too weak, Storm was working pretty sweet though)
Level 35
-Ninja/Traps (Ninjas were amazing damage, however I can't stand the 50million crouching animations, and that only 2 traps follow you, but 3 clog up the pet window)
Level 33
I guess judging from my other characters: (Ice/Nrg Blast, Spines/EA Stalk, Fire/Kin Troller, Rad/Ment Blast, Ill/Emp Troller, SS/Shields Brute) I like Range, and Damage. (Minus the brute, that's one I built for farming)
But what I *think* I want from an MM is versatility. Something that can solo, decent at ST and AoE damage, work well with teams, take on an AV (and hopefully win) if need be, and not be suck-tastic at PvP. That's probably a little much to ask for, until I noticed everyone seems to love Bots/Dark. Which got me playing with Mids, and it has amazing synergy.
However from what I've seen on the forums Bots/Dark is a popular FotM, and I'm not a big FotM. (Yes, I had an Ice/Nrg when it was a FotM, however I was new then and had little knowledge of what was cool and what wasn't, by pure luck I choose one. And the Fire/Kin I made for farming, yea, farming.) So, that's why /Thermal is probably a no.
If there is a sweet build that can manage all that, (or most, though I'd prolly want AVs and PvP at the top) I would love to know what it is, as far as builds I think I'm getting better at building to my needs, though if there is any advice on what works and what doesn't, that would be sweet too... -
I feel like I must say something... but what?
I guess I just don't like those who seek the most OP'ed thing in the game, but if you succeed, I will be waiting with my popcorn to watch the nerf bat swing its mighty power on you.
But...If you want power, research, and look into +Damage IOs. If you can, look into -resist as well.
But really? You can only have fun by being OP? That just doesn't sound right... -
So Was just in PI on Freedom and the game crashed. Loaded back in and at the Server Screen there are File Locations instead of server names. I click on the 2 yellow dot one naturally thinking it was freedom and it says...
" Wrong game version, run patcher and reconnect, server 1600.20090902.5T2, client Could not find registry key"
So, I'm going to close and reopen again, and see if that helps, will edit if it works again.
Edit: Ok so it's working now. Very odd... just exited and loaded back in. -

I rolled a Rad/Ment Blaster, and is currently sitting at 26. I need to go get Neutron Bomb (didn't have time to train) but I love the combo so far. Tons of AoE damage already, and when at range, Subdue is a good substitute for Cosmic Burst, but in no way replaces its awesomeness. The Damage on it is amazing, Mag 3 stun for 9 seconds, and a huge -def (though for like 3 seconds).
By level 50 I'll have 2 Cones, 2 PBAoE attacks, 2 Targeted AoE attacks (I'm dipping into force mastery and Repulsion Bomb), and a PBAoE End/Regen Boost/Debuff. I think I might have to respec out of either the cones or the Targeted AoEs due to an attack overload, but considering I'm dead set on sticking with the PBAoEs the Targeted ones would be more of a benefit, plus Repulsion Bomb is knockdown instead of Electron Haze's Knockback. -
-
I believe that the Mids update Travel power tiers were not a bug, but rather to just help those who have the 234523459month badge plan around that.
(City Traveler, allows Travel Powers to be accessed at level 6 and without needing a first tier, i.e. SS with no hasten SJ with no Combat Jumping, much fun, but oh so far away...) -
Quote:Yea, but perhaps they could have tohit or somethin...just mentioned that because it was so much def and still dead...You understand that the difference between 45% and 60% (even 160%) is minimal, right? Less than a single percentage. Having 60% defense to all bar anything with a +tohit bonus is no better than having 45% defense, as your opponent will always have a 5% chance to hit.
I'd say you were just unlucky, but i've got not idea of what you were actually dealing with, so I can't offer you any insight into what happened
Edit: also, shield has a lot of extra mitigation (shield charge, the +/-dmg aura, static resistances, more HP), and you've only got typed defense, hide and placate to rely on.
They are basically a bunch of Longbow Flamthrowers...they only use flamethrowers. However they were the Crey version and I believe it's called the reflections enemy group, because they had that ghostly aura on them, you can check out the mission "Burn Notice" in AE to get an exact idea. All DoT Fire dmg if your hit.
Oh well...I guess thats why I'm leveling a SS/Shields brute then, right? I'll leave my stalker to killing squishies in RV. -
Quote:It could possibly give you a false guess at what others are using before you engage.Might be a bit harder to tell what defensive set a melee AT is using but other than that it's a simple matter of looking at your buff bar to see what powers are affecting you, as those icons don't change.
Like you run in thinking the psy blaster is using fire and you realize you don't have any defense against psy...though I doubt you could mess up what psy is...
Maybe dark and fire...Red Miasma could look like fire at a distance... -
So, I just decided to try the Burn Notice mission in AE on my Spines/Ea/Mu Stalker.
At first I was trying to do a Battle Maiden Ltn mish, but only found a dark/pain corr.
I went to the end of the room, purples ablaze. They were level 52 ltn Chief Flamethrowers (Crey) I'm level 50, and poped 2 purps to have like 60% def to all but psy, which they dont use so theres no worries there. I've seen an Elec/Shields brute take this on before without purps, and she just killed everyone easy.
Me, poping purps to keep over that softcap, run in and only 10seconds later find myself dead.
I go in again, this time poping 4 purps, and Overload, for a total of 160% def. I last longer, but still, fall on my face.
My question is, what's the deal? 160% def to these guys attacks and I still find myself falling flat. Is there something with aggro cap that makes them hit you easier?
I go in after than and pull some, manage to scrape buy that group, so i pull more. (Still poping purps to keep over 60% def) And I die just before I kill them.
I'm not seeing the logic how a shields brute thats softcapped probably at just over 45% can not die when a stalker with 60%, even 160% dies at that mission...
Anyone got any guesses? -
Though that Mind/Therm Prolly wasn't very good I can't help but notice you said she was an SS/Elec Armor Brute Agaisn't the mind/therm...
Elec, at least on paper, looks like Thee /Therm Hunter -
Maybe no one got what I was saying/asking...
I was looking for comments, of course, if I wanted to show and tell I would'a said somethin'.
