Stalker Def vs Chief Flamethrowers
You understand that the difference between 45% and 60% (even 160%) is minimal, right? Less than a single percentage. Having 60% defense to all bar anything with a +tohit bonus is no better than having 45% defense, as your opponent will always have a 5% chance to hit.
I'd say you were just unlucky, but i've got not idea of what you were actually dealing with, so I can't offer you any insight into what happened
Edit: also, shield has a lot of extra mitigation (shield charge, the +/-dmg aura, static resistances, more HP), and you've only got typed defense, hide and placate to rely on.

They are basically a bunch of Longbow Flamthrowers...they only use flamethrowers. However they were the Crey version and I believe it's called the reflections enemy group, because they had that ghostly aura on them, you can check out the mission "Burn Notice" in AE to get an exact idea. All DoT Fire dmg if your hit.
Oh well...I guess thats why I'm leveling a SS/Shields brute then, right? I'll leave my stalker to killing squishies in RV.
There's also a difference in mitigation from the primary.
Electric/Shields has Thunderstrike, Lightning Rod and Shield Charge. All are strong AoE attacks and all have knockdown. They will be knocking down quite a few mobs and those mobs will most likely be aggroed, leaving only a few under the aggro cap actually attacking.
Spines only slows enemies. Ripper is the only attack that offers knockdown, but only does so to 5 targets max.
If you mix that with the various mitigation Shields has (Def, Res, +HP, -Dam) and who knows what types of set bonuses.
EA only offers a little heal on Energy Drain to go with it's Def based powers.
Brutes also have about 300 more HP base at lvl 50, so they can take more damage and even base regeneration is giving them more life back.
Turn on Repulse.

So, I just decided to try the Burn Notice mission in AE on my Spines/Ea/Mu Stalker.
At first I was trying to do a Battle Maiden Ltn mish, but only found a dark/pain corr.
I went to the end of the room, purples ablaze. They were level 52 ltn Chief Flamethrowers (Crey) I'm level 50, and poped 2 purps to have like 60% def to all but psy, which they dont use so theres no worries there. I've seen an Elec/Shields brute take this on before without purps, and she just killed everyone easy.
Me, poping purps to keep over that softcap, run in and only 10seconds later find myself dead.
I go in again, this time poping 4 purps, and Overload, for a total of 160% def. I last longer, but still, fall on my face.
My question is, what's the deal? 160% def to these guys attacks and I still find myself falling flat. Is there something with aggro cap that makes them hit you easier?
I go in after than and pull some, manage to scrape buy that group, so i pull more. (Still poping purps to keep over 60% def) And I die just before I kill them.
I'm not seeing the logic how a shields brute thats softcapped probably at just over 45% can not die when a stalker with 60%, even 160% dies at that mission...
Anyone got any guesses?
