Solo Scrapper

Hello Scrapper forums!

I've been a fan of scrappers, but I've never really leveled one to see their true power, so I want to try again.

And this time, I want to solo it to 50! What fun ()

Does anyone have any advice as to what works/whats fun?

I think the only thing I don't wanna do is Broadsword, fore I don't like the animations, and Dual Blades, because I would love to go into a PvP zone with it, and not epic fail...
Secondaries as all fine, though Dark Armor is iffy, I had a DA tank and I could never truely enjoy it...

But, besides that, if theres any fun combo I'm defiantly willing to try it out.

Edit: If this helps anyone I do have the capabilities to solo farm money for IOs however I don't tend to IO anyone until 50, I've lately not even been common IOing till 50. So, picture me running this toon with SOs.

Hi, if you intend to go in zone later, maybe dark/regen can be a good.

That's funny, cause I was just looking at Smilin' Joe's guide to DM.

Do you have any leveling builds I could work off of, I'm good with end-game builds, just leveling up I normally pick powers that aren't good till fully slotted or like 2 attacks until 30...
I do have Sands of Mu btw.

Regen is a strong secondary for any use, but it has four characteristics that recommend it in this case:

  • It's a "smooth" leveling secondary, not weak early, and it has a handy endurance tool to get you going early
  • It does very well in PVP, probably the best Scrapper secondary for that purpose
  • It does not need IOs to perform well
  • Regen does not scale based on enemies around you (like Shields, Invuln, Willpower, and Dark. Therefore, while it sometimes has issues in large team-sized crowds, it won't in normal solo play against small-to-medium spawn sizes, so you're playing to its strengths.

For primary, anything is good, although the more single-target sets might shine better (Martial Arts, Dark Melee, and Fiery Melee if you discount Fire Sword Circle.)

I would suggest a DM/SD/Blaze but if you want to go PvP'n then mayb not.
I mean it does good dmg but its mainly a PvE def based toon and we all kno how useful def is in zone...

Idk about regens, they seem a little squishy to me. Yea sure the heals are nice but damage resist and some good regen/max health outweigh reconstrucion. If you think you need a heal Aid Self is a very useful option, my PvP tank has it.

Thought about DM/WP?
I've come up against a few good wp brutes and they're hit points never seem to move, a scrap can get fairly similar numbers. Plus with Dark Consumption, Quick Recov and Stamina you'll NEVER run outta end.
Slot Siphon Life for +heal and a lil dmg and you'll have a 200-ish hp heal that does 300-ish dmg every 5-6 seconds with just hasten.

My two or less cents.

It was my understanding that the best dps was spines. I've never played one due to thematic reasons though.

I can tell you a don't. I'm finding MA/Inv difficult to get above the early 40s. She is mostly a team member though. I have a Claw/WP which can solo and is very fun.

Not the most amazing advice, but I felt the need to chime in, if for no other reason to get those Arch's mentioned.

Here are a few of my opinions
Shield defense and super reflexes are my favorite secondaries because I like to cap defenses. However, both of them are the hardest to level with solo because the defenses don't start shining until the 30s. If you are going to solo with either of these, I strongly recommend dark melee, as the self heal and endurance heals are very helpful. My DM\SR seems to out last any of my other 50 scrappers.

Regen and will power are both great for solo play. Regen shines very early with endurance recovery and will power comes into it's own by 20 with it's own end recovery and rise to the challenge. If you were going to decide between these two, I would suggest will power for primaries with a draw time (katana, spines, BS). Non draw time primaries like fire, electric, and martial arts are good with both.

My fire melee/will power is 41 right now and were leveled 100% solo outside of AE and were a lot of fun and fairly easy to level. I also have a 30 martial arts/regen that is doing well, but is having a little harder time then the will power (by 25 my will power was running missions on the fourth setting, just below invicible).

Fire secondary was fun to level, but seemed to be a little better for groups. The lack of knockback protection was rough and I used a knockback IO early on to help with it.

Dark armor has also bothered me. The constant humming an visuals put me off, though the set looks fun. I've not gotten beyond level 30 with /DA and have ended up deleting them all for the above reasons.

I have an invulnerability tank, so it is the only scrapper secondary I haven't tried yet.

Spines is excellent for AoE, but the lowest for ST damage. If you're planning on soloing everything, then I don't reccommend Spines/.

If you're looking for a good ST set that can throw out some AoE to grind down minions then I'd reccommend Fire/. It has good ST dps, a very solid AoE in Fire Sword Circle, it's damage type is less resisted than any of the lethal/smashing sets, and setting things on fire is always fun. This is not to say that the other scrapper sets can't solo - they all can, it's just a matter of ease. Fire/ has always seemed to me to be a good compromise between DM/ and Spines/.

I don't PVP, so I'd go with everyone else's comments regarding that. I have noticed that the boards generally point people towards /Regen though for the resaons others have stated.

edit: fixed quote.
