I think I have our next move. o.o?

Folks,

...I think I have our next move.

A forum post I read says the eyes of the gaming industry are on us; why don't we bring them into it.

They just want to play too.

The bullies are trying to close our playground down.

If they can take ours.

How long until they come for theirs?

If you have contact information for a CoH player we need to mobilise over the weekend while as many people are playing.

Not just CoH.

The post said the news is getting outside of the CoH circle, if you have the power, if you're willing to do it; then make it wider.

If you play anything else then get the word out there.

Get players of other games to sign the Save CoH Petition and to like Save CoH Social Media Pages. Get a surge of tweets going.
Make the tweets surge again this weekend

Reach anyone who will listen. Spread it through public channels or word of mouth with those you're playing with. Don't be obnoxious about anything. There's no shame in asking for help.

You can come at them with the angle that the way to make their game and their community better is to make sure it has the healthy competition to force it to aspire to something. Pepsi and Coke love to hate each other in a very healthy way.

Anyone you play something with, you ask them to pass it along.

If you play DC, if you're on Champions, if you got Guild Wars 2, if you have a home in WoW, if you're Star Treking or Star Waring, if you have access to Aion or Lineage or Blade & Soul, doesn't matter if you quest Final Fantasy or Diablo, Secret World or Perfect World, wether your Online is Hello Kitty or EVE, wether you're an X-Box Junkie a PS3 Addict or you are loyal to Nintendo.

Make a free account if you don't have any Liquid Courage on you.

If you feel you can contact Google to plead for them to make a Save CoH Google front page logo to seek help outside the gaming community, it's a task that can be performed that honestly couldn't hurt our chances. Try contacting Oprah if you're inclined or any talk show host and ask them to report on the community who's playground is being wipedout by something that some cruel person refered to as a realignment of company focus.

Whoever you talk to about gaming, you bring them in on it. You tell them what the big mean bullies are trying to do to our playground, see who cares to listen.

Those <expletive deleted> started a war,

if we will not make them our enemy; then see who our friends are.

The Heroes need their help.

Will they lend us their strength.

I just came upon one of two threads in The Secret World's forums about CoH's closure. In threads like this one: http://forums.thesecretworld.com/showthread.php?t=56949 people are pretty much to the point of not investing money into NCSoft anymore because of how many of their MMOs they have shuttered.

Their reputation is in the toilet. I just question that they're so far removed from us globally and could care less about the west anyway to the point that they may never even recognize what is going on here. I mean, otherwise they would have stepped up to the microphone long ago, you know? Their whole credo seems to be "slash ignore."

Not the point, if you don't wish to partake, don't discourage others.

If you care for the cause, I urge you to act while the gaming hours are hot, help spread it so some know by the time they reach home from work.

Alternatively, maybe they're just taking time to think about what they're going to say.

NCsoft haven't written off the west as a market for new titles - Wildstar and Blade & Soul are proof of that. Whilst City of Heroes is no longer part of their business plan, I'm sure that getting a ton of bad publicity from the shutdown wasn't part of the plan either. if they care at all about their public image, and they will, they'll have to be asking themselves how they come out of this without doing lasting damage to their reputation in the west.

As it stands, the way they're shutting down CoH will hang over their other western titles like a bad smell for years to come. Not Guild Wars 2 - that's a big enough name to survive on its own, but their other titles could suffer from a loss of confidence.

So their silence might only mean that they're picking their next words carefully, if only to avoid pouring more fuel on the fire.

Precisely why this is the time to mobilise, find the support anywhere you're able. Will it hurt to seek it?

Um, I don't know exactly where you've been hiding, Van Raye, but the entire CoH community has been mobilized and highly active in many more ways than you're even suggesting since August 31st when NCSoft announced the abrupt shutdown of PS and CoH.

So welcome to the party....Better late than never, but why act like everyone's ignoring your ideas here when they've been going for weeks before you even got here?

I'm well aware of what everyone is doing and I'm not coming in late, I am pleading for anyone that is listening right now to please help me mobilize once more right now that the weekend is here again and the gaming hours will be primed on all games. The community is performing some amazing feats., but the servers are getting quiet, we need to keep the morale up. Please help me this weekend in this. Play something you like and spread the word there too.

Thats very true, S35... On that note, if CoH2 is in the works they should say something. That in itself would be enough to shelter irritated players. PS got shuttered, PS2 is in beta. Theres a connection there. Shutting down CoH, stating their other endeavors require the capital being invested therein. I need a lil more than that. Aion needs a facelift (new patch active Oct 1st,) so we'll be taking CoH down to foot the bill. Thats a viable excuse. Would I like that excuse? Hahaha, that'd be a no. BUT --> It is an excuse, nonetheless. How about, 'We're in over our heads, so we're pumping everything into GW2.' Thats also a viable excuse. And dont give me that smoke and mirrors about GW2 being an AlertNet title. Thats an infantile coping-mechanism, most irritated CoH veterans use, about GW2 preorders. Lineage, Guild Wars, and City of Heroes... the long-running flagships of NCSoft. Aion is Lineage 1.5, lets not fool ourselves. GW2, although boasts as being a NEW game, is Guild Wars. City of Heroes is in our hearts forever, thats all that needs to be said...

Signed,

It isn't - but if CoH is sold to another publisher, they could greenlight some kind of follow-up if they decided to invest in the studio.

Except, since they dismantled Paragon Studios, even if a NCSoft-published CoH2 were in the works (which it isn't), it would be in the works under another developer entirely, most likely as another Korean grindfest. It'd be CoH in name only.

And that would be just another log on the fire.

Log in the fire...hehe. Yeah, for sure on that.

But the super secret project looks to have been an unannounced strategy war game for iOS, Android and PC. Tim Sweeny was lead designer for it from Jan. 2012 til the shutdown, which is mentioned in his LinkedIn profile. Cryptic still appears to have licensed the CoH engine for use "in perpetuity" though (according to BABs/Tic Toc on these forums) and I think it was mentioned as being ok'd for potential use in CoH2 if there ever had been a call for that.

But I'll just be happy if NCSoft comes to their senses and sells the CoH IP really soon, Paragon Studios intact as much as possible.

The old girl still has a lot of life left in her, and there are still a good amount of people playing (I'm on Virtue and it's often downright crowded)...much moreso than in most of the other MMOs out there, I'll tell you that. And they're all still running! And I've tried a lot of 'em, so I should know.

Hi Van! Have you visited cohtitans.com? I think I caught wind of a unity rally being held in another game this weekend. If you haven't heard of their site or heard about the weekend rally, you should go to their site and check out the details there. There are also at least four COH groups on facebook where similar events/plans have been being discussed. If you have, well, feel free to ignore this post then. =)

I have a couple of co-workers who play WoW. They have signed the petition. I will see if I can get at least one of them to start spreading the word in their community.

Excellent!

I've placed a few Titan links in the CO forums myself. But they're in the "Fanbase Alpha" section, which doesn't get a lot of traffic. Still - the CO people are VERY sympathetic to us.

(Even if some of them are a bit opportunistic about it. "Hey! This is great! An influx of players to OUR game!" Well, who can blame them? They're interested in their game staying alive. And with COH on the chopping block, it may be making them a bit nervous about their own survivability. They should be. After November it will be just them and DCUO the only superhero MMOs out there. )

I imagine many of them are former COH people who have already signed the petitions.

Having played GW1 and GW2, I can seriously say that the "2" is well deserved. The game play between the two is very different.

But it ain't CoH or a CoH2 - which always bothered me. Would I have been able to move my CoH characters to CoH2? []

I'm just sharing something I came across in my searches.

Why do you feel you need to come attack me by calling me shameless and saying that my only reason for sharing a link is to bump my thread?

You really that cynical or have you just lost all hope?

If you aren't doing something constructive yourself; don't tear others down. okay?

Okay, this time I am bumping my own thread, sorry, not intentional, I just need the space for something and don't want to start a new thread. hope you guys don't mind.

"I come to you on behalf of the denizens Paragon City. We are desperate and pleading for help from anyone who is willing to provide us with any assistance. Korean game publisher NCSoft, in a seemingly arbitrary decision, has chosen to close the doors of it's Super Hero themed MMORPG City of Heroes. Players awoke one morning to the news that NCSoft had laid off the 80 or so employees of CoH's development studio only 10 days after having released new content and mere weeks from releasing it's next expansion. City of Heroes has been around for nearly a decade and is much more than just a video game. Not only is it above the standard by which new games should be measured but it is also a social networking platform in it's own right, every bit the equal of Facebook and Twitter. Even more than that, it is very much a community; the best online community that there is. NCSoft has released absolutely no information regarding this action and they have made no attempt to help us understand why they have chosen to kick us out of our online home. There is no indication that City of Heroes is no longer profitable and we cannot find any sense in this from what data is available. City of Heroes is the most accessible, most family friendly, most well rounded game of it's kind and it is not showing it's age for a game that has been around for 8 years. City of Heroes is responsible for the charity known as RealWorldHero and it is home to whole generations of families that enjoy playing together. I, personally, cannot count the number of moms and parents that I have met who use CoH as not only a place to unwind but a social outlet while on break from raising their famillies. We plead with you for any help you can provide and any attention you can bring to our cause. The heroes need you. Will you lend us your strength?"

Hmmmm not very happy with NCSoft no buyers apparently for the game and they say not changing their minds!!!! - Hamidon will have its revenge

Don't believe it. They are telling us that they had “exhausted all options including the selling of the studio and the rights to the City of Heroes intellectual property, but in the end, efforts to do so were not successful.”

LIES!

I can't verify it but allegedly, two private investment groups contacted NCSoft with offers to buy the game and NCSoft refused to even discuss a sale, and ignored any and all offers.

What we need is bad publicity(and we don't need to make anything up, NCSoft is doing a fine job of running their own name through the mud), we need bad publicity where it will hurt. We need to get messages out in Korean media and to the Korean people about how NCSoft operates.

The only reason they have for shutting our game down is they want us to play either GW2 or when it gets here the new game which from what I can understand is like all their other gore fests with the added titillation of scantily clad females
