Rock, rock on Hamster.
I will say this.
GG absolutely INFURIATES me on any normal day looking through the forums. The constant condescension. The one-liner snarks. The overuse of smilies. (Nay - the seeming inability NOT TO USE A SMILEY, thus rendering them insincere and useless.)
BUT...
These are NOT normal days, and GG has been a SOLID ROCK.
That's what it means to be a part of a community. That's what it means to be part of a team. That's what it means to be COMRADES.
When your backs are against the wall, you step up and show your "A" game.
Golden Girl is showing us all what a real "A" game means this last week. And I salute that.
Its more than that. I dont think Andy/Zwill is the type who could just sit there and watch us act like immature trolls when he knows its his job to try and ride herd on us. Its just not.
Its an example of the dedication to duty that if I was able to hire him as Community manager for my MMO it would be a slam dunk.
"Belford is available? He applied? HECK YES. Call the other applicants and tell them sorry, the job has been filled"
Its just that sort of thing that when I decided to try for the "dress like a dev" (by which I 'creatively interpreted' as "Dev=Employed by Pargon studios" I knew EXACTLY who to be:

And yet GG continues to trash the single most supportive game and by extension its community after this bombshell has been dropped on us. CO devs, players and mods have gone out of their way to welcome us into their game and had nothing but nice things to say about COH and its players. GG spits in their face with comments that call their game "unplayable."

I find it to be quite accurate in my case.
I've tried it, I found it to be quite unplayable after being used to the gameplay in CoH.
It's one saving grace is it's slightly more playable than DCUO.
It doesn't matter how supportive their community, Devs, players and mods have been or how supportive they've been about what's happened here or how many nice things they've had to say about CoH and its' players.
When the game in unplayable for me, I won't be playing it. Trying to "play" that game feels too much like "work".
Very little of CoH has felt like "work" in the 8½ years I've been playing it.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.
Black Pebble is my new hero.
I don't find the comment that it's unplayable to be trashing the game.

I have no specific (or general) animosity towards Golden Girl, but she does tend to express her opinion of gaming in an exclusive us vs them context that I neither need, or desire. Before she could possibly have known what CO was going to be - because none of us knew at that point in beta - she was already offering her opinion over how valueless that game was going to be. I can understand that, its like supporting your college football team. You don't have to know anything about any other team to know they are no good. Which is fine when you've decided your opinion is going to be permanently framed in terms of pom poms and face paint.
Personally, I prefer the gameplay in CoH to the gameplay in CO, at least at the moment. But that's not the same thing as saying the game is unplayable in general, or even that the game is bad. I'm definitely not moving to Eve Online. As you put it, that game feels too much like work to me personally. But I wouldn't call a game that has multiples of the number of players we have "unplayable." I make the distinction between games I don't like and games I think are broken, and I think that's an important distinction to make.
If I preferred the gameplay of CO to CoH I would be playing it now. If I preferred the community of CO to CoH I would be there now. I think my community support credentials are in order. But vanilla doesn't have to be either evil or indigestible for me to prefer chocolate. Its ok to simply like something better.

In one little corner of the universe, there's nothing more irritating than a misfile...
(Please support the best webcomic about a cosmic universal realignment by impaired angelic interference resulting in identity crisis angst. Or I release the pigmy water thieves.)
Perhaps I should have phrased that as "slightly more enjoyable than attempting to play DCUO".
I'll continue to have the opinion that CO is unplayable due to my own experiences when trying to play it.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.
Black Pebble is my new hero.
So taser is banned now, right.

Rock, rock on Hamster.
You're probably right. For the most part, this community is fairly well self-regulated. But at the same time, other posters are correct. The game is still running, and there is a certain responsibility, at least on some of our parts, to maintain the forum rules.
That being said, quite aside from any technical or moral responsibility, I think we feel an ethical responsibility to keep things relatively sane. We care about you guys, and stuff like the kinds of things that have been posted recently just aren't acceptable. You guys deserve a better environment, and if we can do something, albeit in a limited (due to time) fashion, then we will. ~Freitag |
Wonder how many people have been banned; a lot of the emotional people have already done their freaking out (first weekend of the announcement saw a LOT of cursing and racist anti-Korean posts being disappeared).
And then the other question is, when does NC Soft start cutting out all access to the Paragon people and the forum mods? I know if I was a jackass corporate manager and I just told people they were being laid off, I know I'd cut off all their internet/email/etc access.

So Zil's gone.
Did he ban Friggin Taser on his way out? Did the door hit one of their butts? Could I hit one of their butts? I'll do it if they ask me to.
