Chances of having Portable Workbench made available in the Paragon Market?

I mean, come on.

Or possibly as a paragon reward? Really, with the portable vault, and auction house on demand...

I understand all the hard work folks have gone through to get the bloody thing, but I would hope these folks would be okay with such a thing.

/vault and /ah aren't tied to the badge subsystem though.

Clicking on the linked image above will take you off the City of Heroes site. However, the guides will be linked back here.

Then create a whole new temporary power called Portable Worktable that isn't?

Mayb an account unlock when you unlocked it on 1 toon?

It would be nice to have this, but a slap in the face to people who spend countless of hours and Inf to get the bench on 1 or more toons. At least with having to unlock it on 1 toon you still have to do something for it, instead of simply buying it with Points

(However, the Devs have slapped people in the face before with granting things like this.)

I would be fine with it as long as the badge version is superior. Recharge time is probably the only way to effectively make a difference between them. So, since the badge version has a one hour recharge the market version could have a 2 or 4 hour cooldown. It should also have a different graphic so that those of us with the badge can continue to show just how obsessive/compulsive we are.

Holy crap. I forgot about the one hour recharge. That's a slap in the face(take a drink).

I amend my suggestion to include reducing the recharge time of the accolade granted power. Say to 10 to 15 mins. Might actually make it worth chasing after then. Well, besides for you crazy badge folks.

Honestly, I have the accolade on all of one character. Having it available elsewise would be no worry to me at all...I have absolutuley no plan to ever earn it again, and the thought of earning it on all my characters...yeah, no, not going to happen. Leaving it as a free reward but having a fee for the convenience of broader use more easily? Certainly.

Oh, and the only reason I got the accolade? The crazy number of badges to earn it, for the badge count.

I don't think they will ever do it, but it would be nice.

The development team and this community deserved better than this from NC Soft. Best wishes on your search.

I've unlocked it on two characters whom I no longer play.

I'd love to be able to buy it for one of my newer characters - I looked at the requirements again the other day and decided not to bother.

I see a lot fewer of these than I used to. When I had my PW's going, it was not uncommon to see someone pop one in Talos Wentworths and have four or five people gather and use it. These days, I saw one last week and almost fainted.

Possibly its players in the same situation as me? They've made it once or twice on their mains back when it was new, and can't be bothered doing it again now they've moved on to new main characters?

I'd pay for it. It would be a slap of relief.

I have the badge on two characters and will probably get it on at least one more.

They should lower the recharge significantly and make the workbench available on the market. The badge is its own reward; getting something that (now) normally costs money would be an additional incentive. That purchasers would not get the badge defeats any objections from those who earned it instead.

No. It's not a slap in the face at all. You could either do some hard work in game to earn the power absolutely free with no charge to your bank account whatsoever, or you can pay a little cash if you don't have the time and/or patience and get the power via the market.

Plus they've done the same thing with the Roman and Vanguard costume sets, and that decision was pretty well accepted among players, anyway.

Someone asked Positron about it (during a Coffee Talk, I think), and he said it was a good idea, and he'd look into it.

However, other comments from various rednames have said that all the market releases are planned in advance, and are scheduled at least up to the end of the year. Unless there's a VERY good reason, it's unlikely that they'll break that schedule, so even if this is something that's going to happen, don't expect it soon.

And as someone who's earned the badge a few times over, put me down as /signed as well, for both the market item, and the reduced recharge.

I favor the compromise idea that they can sell a "version" of the portable workbench on the market as long as the badge-based version is somehow superior to it. For instance make the market version have the current hour recharge where the badge-based one could have a better 15 min recharge.

I understand that selling things like the Roman and Vanguard costume sets were generally accepted by the playerbase. But as a badge-collector I just can't support fully trivializing badge oriented rewards like this by selling exact equivalents on the Market - the time it takes to run the ITF is just not equal to the time it takes to earn the Field Crafter badge. *shrugs*

Well, the 'learned' version is already superior in one very obvious way: you have memorized every common IO recipe in the game. As such, the 'earned' bench lets the user take salvage and make common io's with less expense, and without using recipe inventory.

Beyond that, I never thought that the bench was the purpose of all the invention badges, but a perk. In all honesty between universities, SG/VG bases, and the RWZ it is not that hard to get to a crafting station, especially with how fast inter-zone travel is nowadays. Being able to craft anywhere every great once in a while just now that big of a deal. Even if they had an un-altered crafting temp and a second version via the market, the badger could craft twice as often, and would have all the memorization/inventory expansion bonuses that came with their effort.

If you're a badge collector, isn't having the badges in and of itself the reward?

It doesn't trivialize anything, anyway. You're getting the power for absolutely free that way, along with a plethora of badges and memorized IO recipes. And if they made two different versions, then that further reduces recharge time on both because you could summon the second after using the first. So there's that problem to deal with.

Completely disagree. The protable work bench is one reward, the badge is another.

I'd be fine with them putting a lower powered one on the market. Or improving the one badgers get.

Something being tied to a badge (no matter how the badge is gotten) SHOULD NOT ever block something from being put on the market that can make the game more money, which the devs can then pour into more development work.

To do otherwise is not seeing the bigger picture.
