Power Level 2????

I am returning to the game after some years and I noticed when I go to 'tell' someone it tells me that I need to get the Power Level 2 pack. What is it and where do I get it?

It -probably- said that you need to get to the 2nd Tier in the Paragon Rewards program. For each month you are subscribed, or 1200 Paragon Points you buy, you earn a token for use in the Paragon Rewards tree. Once you cross into a new Tier certain perks open up. One of those is the ability to send tells.

I am posting from my phone or else I would link you to the Paragon Wiki for more information. Hopefully someone comes along and does that for you.

If I'm reading this correctly yo're saying when you try to send a "Tell" to another player you are getting a confusing message that says to get the "Power Level 2 Pack".

I'm guessing that means you haven't unlocked the Tier 2 paragon rewards yet. You need to assign two Paragon Reward Tokens to unlock the ability to send tells to other players.

Here's the wiki page that explains Paragon Rewards.

When they added the option to play for free they put certain limitations on Free accounts.

Those limitations include limiting the channels you are allowed to communicate in. You can't use Broadcast or join Global Channels, and you can't send tells.

Part of the reasoning for this is it is designed to prevent RMT companies from starting hundreds of free accounts and flooding the game with spam trying to sell you in-game stuff for real money (against the terms of service, and those companies are NOT trustworthy)

They figure that most people who play the game will be willing to spend $5 to increase their communication ability (the first time you buy points you get a token, and the lowest dollar amount you can spend is $5)

So, it's unfortunate that they limited free players' ability to communicate, but there is a good reason for it.

They added a new channel (LFG) and made the Help channel easier to find (it's in your chat window by default now), and you can use them as a free player.

You can also respond to a tell by typing "/r your message". That will automatically send a tell back to the last person to send you one. You can reply to tells, but not initiate them.

You don't need to assign tokens to earn the tier bonus, merely earn enough tokens, total, for each tier bonus.

Thank you everyone. That clears it up.

Though, it occurs to me... if you're returning to the game, your old account (if you still remember the login and password) should have Tier 2 (at the very least, depending on how long you played) unlocked.

An old account would have to have 6 months activity to have unlocked Tier 2 rewards. Lots of people have less than 6 months, and only the devs know how many thousands of trials exist that have less than 1 month.

If you bought a box though, wouldn't that automatically make you Tier 2 at least?

However, if you're returning to a Free or Trial account, then yes you would still be only Tier 1 (the freebie tier).

An old account that had applied a retail box code should have tier 2, even without any vet rewards. Every account gets 1 token to start, +1 for retail code = 2 tokens.

6 months would have two tokens (one for each of the two vet badges 6 months would have gotten) plus one for opening an account for a total of three at the very least, but most likely have plus one more for having applied a box for a total of four. It would have been possible to have an account and not get one for the box by using the Bootleg Edition trial disk, but that is probably a very low number.

Bootleg and the old "Friend" code that they gave out for the Valentine's event one year.

Ahhh, that clears that up then.

Note that your first purchase of points automatically gets you a token, no matter how many it is. So if you have five bucks to spare, it's an easy target to reach.

Recently seen a lot of RMT on the help channel. So, perhaps they might revisit this, as, as it is, it's not stopping RMTers..

If you are referring to the VIP Starter Kit, that can only be used on Freemium accounts that have never been VIP before. So someone that had an active account before Freedom launched can't use the Kit on that account. Thay have to start a new account to use it.

The OP is (apparently) on a brand new free account - his (?) prior account belongs to a (still playing) parental figure.

It never hurts to post the product description from the store. I can recall two times I've seen threads made by people that bought the Starter Kit who didn't bother to read it before buying and were pissed off they couldn't use it on their "old" account. They just heard about the sale on the forums and bought it without reading further.

I still have the screen shots from the Nov sale that I posted in the one guys thread when he claimed the Starter Kit product information didn't explain that it could only be used on a new account.

There's really not much more they can do without ensuring that free players will never be able to talk to another living soul without forking over some cash.

The way it is set up now is about as strict as they can realistically get about it. Being limited to the Help channel makes it a lot easier to avoid, but has the unfortunate side effect of people's questions in Help go unheard by a lot of people that might be able to answer them.

I parsed that statement the other way: "tell restrictions aren't stopping RMT, so might as well remove them and let free players have a basic social feature".

Which isn't necessarily a good idea; RMT hasn't stopped completely, but it's hard for us (at least, for us players) to say whether it would be worse without tell restrictions.

I still feel that COH is the best Free-to-play out there. The only one I know of that you can go all the way to level 50..for free. I love being VIP though. It makes me feel special. lol

No, I'd rather not have them harvest my name from helping in /hc, and then getting the constant "*ding* Tell!" noise from them spamming me directly.
