Do the developers ever use suggested ideas from the forums?

The title says it all.

It seems to me if some came up with a great suggestion for CoH, which there are tons of. Do the devs ever put them into the game or even try it and then figure it out?

Have any of you had your ideas used in any way for CoH?

Or do the devs have the forum here to shut us up about our great ideas?

Yes, they have. There's a fairly long list. And I'm sure a few are missing, or came in in ways we didn't expect that were sparked from other discussions.

And yes, I pushed for a good year and a half or so to get the Sonic graphics changed - though that wasn't just here, and wasn't just me, as the originals were making people physically ill.

What Bill said.

The Devs regularly use and interact with us forumites, and some forumites ARE Devs. So you can bet they supplement their good ideas with some of ours too. Might I point to Street Justice and Dual Pistols as highly suggested sets that eventually got made.

Yeah, I see a few missing from the list, looking through it again.

- MM pet upgrades becoming AOE.
- Team buffs (shields) turned into AOE.
- Changes to Dimension Shift (now an AOE you can go in and engage the shifted enemies.)
- Do believe phased players in PVP can attack each other... or at least that got to beta at one point. (Haven't run into it... hmm, ever, that I can think of.)
- Zone teleporter (Teleport tier 5/Warshade power.)
- (some) enemies following through elevators.
- Removal of (most) simul-clicks from missions. (may be a few out there still... /bug them. Not the case for task/strike forces.)
- Calvin Scott TF (and old Posi, old Galaxy, etc.) being added to Ouroboros.
- Solo/small team Incarnate content. (Yes, the first reaction of the devs *was* "we didn't think you wanted it." It's in one of the video panels. They were actually surprised.)

... just off the top of my head.

at the time when brutes had ice fury worked quite differently, i wish they would give brutes ice armor back now since they changed how fury is generated

I suggested the plant aura long before it was added to the game. Tunnel Rat seemed to think it had been suggested before, so I don't know if I can say it was MY idea, but that one can go on the list too.

Add to the long list: Fixes for Ice Melee.

Engulfing Darkness and the placement of Moon Beam in Dark Assault were down to player input in Beta, if that counts.

Just a more general message to the OP: basically, the players can come up with ideas faster than the Devs could ever put them into the game. If the Devs were to ever go insane and sy to us that they'd put every suggestion the players came up with into the game as soon as they could, people would STILL feel like player ideas weren't going in, because the Devs might never get around to THEIR idea. They'd basically be so swamped with the first 100 or so ideas that they'd never get to the other 100,000,000 ideas that players were suggesting.

As the others have said the Devs have implemented many of the ideas people have posted in the forums over the years. Many of those have turned out to be great.

But clearly they either can't (or won't) ever be able to do them all for all sorts of reasons. For those suggestions that'll either never happen or might not happen for a very long time this forum basically serves the "give the players an outlet to spit into the wind" purpose you imply.

People just have to be realistic about these things - the Devs could never give us -everything- everyone wants from this game even if they wanted to. As long as you don't assume that whatever's posted in this forum is automatically going to happen tomorrow then you'll be fine.

Maybe I just missed it in that long list Forbin submitted but realistically .. GOING ROGUE. How long did we beg for a way to create an Anti-hero here on the forum before that addition finally arrived?

To the OP .. one of the things I personally found very refreshing and has kept me loyal to the game is the fact that they do listen to us. Better than half the things players take fro granted today are a direct result of us asking and the Dev team finding a way to make it work.

OMG WHAT A TOTALLY UNHEARD OF CONCEPT! .. LIKE THEY LISTEN TO THEIR CUSTOMERS AND DO WHAT THEY ASK!

So they do check out the suggestions. Sorry, but I haven't noticed any of the devs talking to me about my suggestions.

But I'll keep trying, thank you.

Of course the devs aren't going to talk to you about your suggestions. They're going to talk to each other about it and decide whether it's viable.

Sorry Charlie. You don't have the authority to tell other people to stop posting comments in a thread. If people still want to voice their opinions an share relevent information they are free to do so.

It's not as if this is a 3 month old thread that's been necroed.

The developers might listen to your suggestions, but the players are another story!

Still haven't given us Carp Armor/Carp Melee, despite me asking since I5. They must not listen to their customers at all!

/definately this lol

keep in mind you are one player with 1 or 2 ideas. Now multiply that by thousands and thousands that stop by here and make requests. They'd need to hire an entire team just to respond if they tried contacting each one of us with every idea we have. Since I'd much rather they spend that money on developing new powers, story arcs, costume sets, ect I have no problem never personally being contacted about an Idea I post here

If you want to spark discussion, post on the forums. The devs do read the forums, but their primary purpose is to allow players to discuss things with other players. Its not even a mandatory requirement that all developers have red names or forum accounts.

But if you want a personal response from a dev, you should PM your suggestion to the devs: preferably a dev that actually works on whatever area your suggestion refers to. They may respond, they may not always be able to respond, but your chances of actually getting a response are about a hundred times higher if you actually ask a dev politely for a response directly.
