Super Teams

Hey CoH fans! I'm returning after a long hiatus and I was wondering if the community still sets up Super Teams. I would LOVE to be a part of one again after doing the Kin/? Corruptor and Elec/? Brute ST a few years ago.

Are ST's still a thing? Where do I sign up?

While it is not all about the super teams, we do some (or even just themed ones) in RO (www.repeat-offenders.net)

Wow. That's some website you've got there.

I love Superteams as well, though they do seem a bit more rare these days. I regularly team with RO and with the Justice Superteamers. You've seen RO's web site.

JST regularly runs projects based on stacking buffs (we are finishing up our all Time project - very uber) or theme (we've done all Dark or Guns in the past). See my sig for a link to our latest project, keep an eye out on the Justice forum for our next project, typically started by arafel(I'd guess it would start in mid July), and join the "Justice Superteamers" channel. Our official meet up time is Fridays and Sundays 8pm EDT. Feel free to join up and say hi.

Justice Superteamer
Current Project - Water Blast Superteam starting Friday, 7/20/2012.
Come out and join us Fri/Sun 8pm ET on the "Justice Superteamers" channel.
All players welcome!

We have a group on Justice that runs theme teams. We are currently at the tail end of our Time Manipulation team, and soon we'll be voting on a theme for the next team. Watch the Time Manipulation Superteam thread in the Justice forum for an announcement.

Also, feel free to join the "Justice Superteamers" global channel and say hi. We are on regularly Friday and Sunday evenings, but you will catch people on at other times, too.

[edit] scooped by the King!

Quote of the moment: This, too, shall pass.
Justice superteamers: We have a website now, in case the forums get closed early. If you've ever run with us, come visit us again before the curtain falls. We're running bucket list characters--anything you've always wanted to play but never got around to.

Wow, this all sounds like a lot of fun! I'll check it out!

Since this thread is getting attention. Are there RP supergroups on Justice at all? I see things with theme teams, but I'm not looking for something to make new characters. I just play the one character.

Try browsing the justice forums.

I play on Justice, but I know absolutely nothing about what any SG's are doing. I know there used to be a few RP SG's several years ago, but I don't know what's going on now since I only solo now.

But, I did make a thread in the Justice section for you to keep an eye on. I asked if there were any RP SG's on Justice hoping any that are active might speak up and give you information on who to contact.

Good luck.

If you have access to global channels I'd suggest joining Justice For All and/or Justice United as these are the two most active global channels on Justice.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Black Pebble is my new hero.

Thanks for that. Unfortunately as a fre player, there is no access to those channels. Those are the crippleware features that make me wonder about diving deeper in the game.

EDIT: Saw someone suggest checking the supergroup registry. That doesn't work for free players either...more crippleware.

Free players can access the global channels.

Well, premium players can. You do need to have spent a few dollars on the game, but that's easy to do if you buy a couple of costumes or new power sets.

The "cripple-ware" charge isn't quite accurate either. Most of those restrictions are left over from the free trials. We used to get quite a lot of spam from those free accounts, and hammering down on the chat options are what the devs found finally stops it. So most of the player base supports the "cripple-ware" features.

On a positive front, when restrictions on free accounts are found to be not needed, they're removed. The devs have recently allowed free players to join Super Groups, since the risk there appeared minimal. So it's possible that other restrictions might be eased at some point.

And you do have access to two global channels now: Help and LFG (Looking For Group). These are very active, and server wide; almost all events are broadcast on those channels. So you actually have the same ability as any global channel user, and you don't have to join someone's private club to get it. Just broadcast over those channels, and the whole server sees it.

Ahhh The Brutal Speed Super Team ... I remember it well. Biggest first night turn out for a ST ever I believe. There were 5 full Supergroups with some run over into a 6th. A lot of the main players from that ST and others organized by the same group have moved on to other MMO's. There are still a few of us around though, but sadly the hey day of that core group of guys seems to be a thing of the past.

It's too bad really cuz you could play a toon to 50 in about a week easily with those teams. No farming or craziness, just missions, missions and more missions til you dinged 50!

Sorry dude but you get what you pay for. Oh and no one buys that "crippleware" argument. If a person isn't willing to upgrade his account to premium now, he has even less motivation to spend money if he's given even more stuff for free.

Like the saying goes, why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free.

Super Teams are some of the best fun to be had in the entire COX universe.

The development team and this community deserved better than this from NC Soft. Best wishes on your search.

I actually spend quite a bit on other "free" games. I don't mind there being pay items. They are a business. It's when pay items include things I would consider basic function (tells and access to most forums for example) that I have been turned off.

I'd say that the fact you can join super groups, and that there is a desk that actually tells you a listing of super groups that is disabled would be a perfect example of crippleware. Is the feature necessary? No. Is it something people would pay for? Probably not. But it sure is annoying when that is the first thing people will point you to in order to research groups, because that is the feature in the game to do so.

That argument doesn't work when the game STARTS as a pay-to-play, though. If City had launched as an F2P Hybrid, you might have a point. But it was pay to play for 7 years and some months before adding the freemium options.

The SG registry is a side effect of them limiting SG creation (and both rent paying and initial base creation) to VIPs.

Unless I'm mistaken, you can browse all the forums. The most important ones (Tech help, in game help, General Discussions) are open to all. The community types are leery of opening the whole thing up to EVERYONE, as they don't want to encourage RMT spammers to hit the forums.

The tells restriction is again an anti-RMT spam measure, it really sucked when free accounts could send tells to anyone. However, if someone sends you a tell, /r will let you reply.

This has never been a "free" game. Free accounts have always had restrictions. Before we were inundated with RMT spammers Free account could only play 7-14 days.

After the RMTers started abusing the free accounts more restrictions wre added

Could not email other players
Could not level past 14
Limited to 50,000 inf
Could not join global channels
Chatting restricted to /local, /hc (the Help channel), and /team
Could not invite players to team (but could join other players' teams)
Could not join SuperGroups
Could not create Mission Architect arcs
Could not interact with Architect Entertainment Stations (but could be invited onto a team that was running MA missions)

Players have always had to pay something for unlmited access.

Take your complaint about that to the RMT sites that were using free accounts to abuse those features to the extent it became necessary to implement those restrictions.

That's the best you've got? Sorry dude, until (May 31st 2012) - 2 weeks ago, Free accounts couldn't join Super Groups so there was no reason for them to be able to access the SG registrar until they spent $5 bucks on the game.

Now that that has changed maybe the devs will reconsider lifting the restriction on the SG registrar. You could always make a suggestion in the suggestion forums to let them know your opinion.
