VIP Tier 9 costumes

Currently I'm sitting on 8 reward tokens from buying paragon points this month and 6 is needed to get all of the Fire&Ice plus the Mecha Armor costume pieces. If I were to subscribe for 1 month, claim the rewards with my tokens, then let my subscription lapse, would I be able to keep and use the Fire&Ice and Mecha Armor costume pieces?

I have no desire to be VIP or even stay subscribed, but I really really want that Mecha Armor. Sorry if this has been asked before.

Yes, if you have enough Paragon Reward Tokens, you can subscribe for a month and claim the Tier 9 VIP costumes then unsubscribe while keeping the costumes.

Note, that means you already have Tiers 1-8 filled (34 Paragon Reward Tokens total placed) plus being a subscriber plus the available tokens for the VIP costume sets.

Once you have unlocked the set, it is permanent on your account.

Are you sure on this? I've heard others claiming that you have to BE a VIP currently to use any VIP t9+ reward. I think it should work the way you claim, but I can't personally test it.

You have to be VIP to CLAIM the rewards. Once they're claimed, they're yours to keep, forever. I allow my VIP status to lapse from time to time, and I retain access to the Celestial, Fire & Ice and Mecha sets through it all, on existing characters and newly-created ones alike.

In fact, as I understand it, once a costume piece has been awarded to a character or account, there's no way for anyone, even a GM or CS rep, to take it away at all, let alone for it to be done automatically when your subscription ends.

FUN FACT: That burst of light when you level up is actually the effectiveness escaping from your enhancements all at once.

You might be getting it mixed-up with current VIP-inclusive sets like Olympian, Defense, Leather, Chainmail et.al. Those sets are inclusive to VIPs but if you go premium you have to purchase the sets if you want to keep making use of them or alter any costumes which use them. If you're a VIP you can't purchase them till you go premium since the option to buy is blocked for VIPs.

Anything marked "VIP CONTENT" works that way, in the market. Rewards Tree, once you claim it it's your's till the server goes down.

I just created a Dual Blades Scrapper this morning using the swords from the Mecha Armor set. Note the white name - I've been Premium for about a week now.

I'm not sure if I can manage that

Note: I've never subscribed to the game and the 1 token in VIP tier 9 is the Super Pack token slot. Issue 23 moved that slot from non VIP tier 9 to VIP tier 9 . I had placed tokens in the slot sometime prior to the slot being moved on May 31, 2012 and that's why it shows up there.

Thanks to all that responded. I'll have to scrounge up some moolah and go VIP for a month so I can get the super cool Mecha Armor .

Okay, you've never subbed to the game. But have 95 tokens...

Ye flipping GODS you've spent a pretty penny on Paragon points!

Not mixed up at all. I thought it should work the way Doc Roswell verified that it does work. I was told by others that I was wrong. As my account was prepaid, it won't lapse for a significant amount of time, so I was unable to verify the information personally, one way or the other. Everyone that claimed, as I did (and Snowglobe did) were making the assumptions that it 'just made sense' and because 'that's how the other costume parts work'). The folks that claimed you'd lose access to VIP powers claimed if your account ever went to Premium, were likewise making assumptions. I just wanted to hear from someone that had actually tried it, since I can't.

Thank you Doc Roswell! I was pretty sure that was the case all along, but I'm not going to argue with folks over something testable, until I have tested it, or at least spoken to someone who has.

Sweet, even more testing and verification. Thanks so much!

Holy smokes! And, yeah, pretty much what Hyper said... That's nuts...

I like this game. Take into consideration: I created my account on Sept. 29, 2011. (A couple days after the game went F2P I believe) First paragon point purchase so I could upgrade my account was October 6 for $5. So I've earned that many tokens in several month's time. (January and May were the only months I didn't buy points )

I was referring to the inclusive VIP sets like Olympian, Defense, IDF, etc which the Paragon Market interface won't allow you to buy if you are currently VIP but that if you drop to Premium you won't be able to use them.

In that instance; you have to rebuy those costume sets UNLIKE the T9VIP sets which are permanent.

Ah! I see your point. Actually, I wasn't mixed up at all, because I was totally ignoring these. I've got them, so why think about them. But now I see your point. If I ever do go FTP (which I don't see happening) that would have surprised me, most likely. But not now, thanks to you... I appreciate that clarification.

Mayhap the persons that insisted to me that you'd lose access to VIP costumes if an account went Premium was basing their thought process on the 'somewhat' precedent of those sets you mentioned. I can certainly see why they might have thought that now. But I'm glad they are wrong, and glad to have talked to folks that have actually tested it. Thanks again everyone.

Hey. Don't get me wrong. I'm glad you like the game and have the disposable income to play as a Freemium player this way.

And I can't really talk myself. I've got a second account I started up after Freedom that's Tier8 right now. And my main was originally Tier 6.

Just the reality of 95 of them on a single account...

No, don't get me wrong. I'm glad you like the game. Love getting new folks that love the game into the game. Love it when CoH makes money, as it means more chance for me to enjoy this game longer. And I'm happy for you that you can afford to invest so heavily into something I've enjoy for quite a while...

I'm just very impressed. Happy, and impressed..

Wow! Impressive. I went VIP just a few minutes ago to try and save myself some money as I was shelling out more than $15/month...but I think the crown is most definitely yours.
