Electric Armor?

So my main on my new account is a Elec/SS tank and he is really reallly survivable but I haven't seen any for a long time I dont get it. I barely ever die if I am fighting anything but the Arachnos (Toxic Damage Hurts). Why don't I see many people play it, When I played on Freedom I saw 1 Elec/SS that inspired me to make mine. Now I play on Triumpth and I haven't seen one Electric Armor tank.

A big focus nowadays is layering defense on top of good resists, big HP and regen.

Elec is actually decent for this. But, having no defense, they also lack defense debuff protection, tacking defense on can sometimes lead to a false sense of security.

Plus, some of the compromises you might make in the build to get high defense can gimp you seriously if those defenses are taken away.

You're fine.
You're fine.

Not sure why you're not seeing them. Last night at the Tanker Tuesday event there was at least two Electric/ tanks, besides mine. I also have an Elec/SS on Freedom, amongst my many tanks. They will never be as popular as it seems WP and Invulnerable tanks are, but they're out there.

I never have a problem seeing Electric Tanks

But as Rangle and Hyper have pointed out, I don't think their as popular as other sets. Also, it takes a little more work to trim out your Elect as opposed the ease of softcapping Invulns and IOing WP Tanks.

because of one reason... everyone wants to play the easy tanks. its also the reason i play fire tanks.

same reason as wp/ss tanks in pvp with stone mastery. we like to cookie cut and straying away from it makes you think its all gimped. you can make any tank completely as good as any other tank. the only thing is how badly do you wanna.thats the key.

Yep.

My DA/Staff tank is going to be insane once he's finally at 50 and slotted out how I want him.

I also just started leveling an Electric/Martial Arts tank. Much fewer compromises necessary to reach the soft-cap. I'll be keeping the defense from Storm Kick active pretty much at all times because it's part of my attack chain anyway.

In all honesty just because you dont see people playing something doesnt mean its not good. I have almost 50 toona across two servers and depending on what I am doing, who I am teaming with and how I feel I could be playing anythings..

Also a lot of people made Elec/SS when Electric Armor first came out and therefore its no long the " Flavor of the Month " because many months have passed it by.

I have one on Virtue who is quite powerful and has little to no defense in its build at all. Of course Perma Energize makes that kind of moot..

and YES Toxic hurts.. but I believe that all toons should have a weakness

The hard things I can do--- The impossible just take a little bit longer.

If numbers are so much more important than a teammate who is fun to play with, forget about the game altogether and go play with a calculator instead. -Claws and Effect-

Don't think it's a problem with electric armor in particular. I just don't see a lot of tankers, period. The few that I do see are usually fire or stone armor, and most of the fire tankers appear to be built for farming or DPS instead of tanking as a group role.

IMO capping S/L defense should not be a particularly desirable goal for elec armor anyway. I went for maximizing resists, to the point of capping S/L/E, and adding moderate positional defense. Thing is, the only villain groups I can remember throwing around significant defense debuffs also stick to mostly S/L/E damage. Those groups play to elec's strengths. I know that my elec/kin tanker has been in team situations where my defense was debuffed into negative numbers, but I was still tanking like a champ. The effect of capped resists on damage reduction is just as dramatic as capped defense, maybe more so since:

doesn't happen to someone with capped resists. Instead of taking spike damage which eats a huge chunk of your HP bar, you take multiple hits that nibble away at it. Very predictable, and easy to counter with Energize, green or purple insps, etc. should the need arise.

For my fire tanker i have 3 builds so alot could be just that you see a farmer build.i know i got one s/l resistance capped for farming.the 2nd is soft capped for defense.and the 3rd is a hami build.

This hasn't been my experience at all. My Elec/Stone tank has 44% S/L defense and hasn't gimped his powers in the process. He's also capped for S/L/E resists and only uses his heal for the endurance discount.

Honestly, Elec/ is probably under-appreciated for its potential with IOs. Personally, I'd take my Elec/ set up over a soft-cap Inv any day. YMMV.

I am in the tank version of electric armor fan club for sure.

I love the fact that you can cap s/l resist like invuln and cap energy resist too. Not only that but getting most other reisist to 64%ish is good in my book (minus toxic). These numbers are prior to ATO proc which easily pushes you even further along.

Combine that with capped s/l defense, energy of around 32.5%, nearly 400% regen and endless endurance and this armor can do most anything including the psi that shreds invulns.

I guess I might not love my tank as much if I started seeing everyone else with one so I guess I should be happy

Posted

Definitely no problems with electric armor. Actually, i recently switched my main to an elec/ss tank. Elec really really benefits from the tanker ato proc. With it double stacked I've got 80 percent resists to most damage, capped to smashing, lethal, and energy, and can still get soft cap s/l def and high energy def along with 60% slow resist, so the heal is reliable even when facing lots of slows. And unlike invuln's psi hole you can handle yours by sapping everything, although that requires incarnate stuff to really work well when io'd for defense. I die in the underground trial final fight sometimes but can solo most stuff on +4 x8 without too much trouble.

Arachnos require ageless and a good kill order, and of course arachnoids are probably out of the question, but it's great aside from that. Don't worry about electric.

Active (Freedom): Setna (Ice/Psi Dom), Arram (WP/KM Tank), Tesmiel (Elec/SS Tank), Astredax (Robot/Dark Mastermind), Operative Vidali (melee fortunata)

Retired (Virtue): Gaav (Inv/EM Tank), Baqra (Fire/SS Tank)

Wow what server do u play on? I see all different types of tanks out there not just stone and fire. I mostly been playing my SR tank as of late, as well as my SD tank. And I do play my Fire tank, or WP tank. My Fire tank I do reg content and Incarnate stuff with.
