new tech or did I drink some of the crey serum?

Did a tip mission to rescue the foreign dignitary. When I got to her, I swear it switched to lead her out, then she said since I'd cleared the way she could find her own way out and that task completed.

I thought in the past it was just something she said, now I think the game could tell the path was clear. Is this new tech? Can missions now know you cleared the path and not require the long lead out (unless there are ambushes)?

Seen it in a couple places, I expect it's probably a bug since I don't tend to clear tips.

"You don't lose levels. You don't have equipment to wear out, repair, or lose, or that anyone can steal from you. About the only thing lighter than debt they could do is have an NPC walk by, point and laugh before you can go to the hospital or base." -Memphis_Bill

I've done a few rescue mishes in the last few days, tips/arcs/radio, and I cleared the way to them but still had to lead them to the door. Maybe its only a certain set of missions?

Thanks to everyone that helped make me a welcomed part of the community, and for giving me over 3 years of some of the best gaming I've been able to take part in. May the next game bring many friendships and maybe reconnect to some old CoH friends.

I just ran that mission on my stalker and I hadn't cleared the way and she said the same thing and ran off.

I love this bug and hope they never fix it.

Nothing more tedious than leading a hostage to the door you came in by...

Back in the day when another game first came out I made a mod for it that had an interesting twist on the escort mission.

You the player would stumble across a halfling standing at the base of a valley looking up towards his home where a bear stood outside. The halfling was obviously upset and wouldn't speak. His dog was nearby and you could get the dog to follow you, and either attack the bear, or sneak past it.

Once inside, you saw the wife of the halfling, and you could talk to her, and tell her the bear was outside, or that he wasn't. The game detected whether you were telling the truth or not.

If you lied and said the way was clear, she'd run back out and try to reunite with her husband, but the bear would likely kill her, and then the husband, distraught, would run to her side and die as well, and then you'd have carte blanche to raid the house. you get loot, bad karma, and maybe a new pet dog to follow you around a bit.

If you told the truth, they reunited, you got good karma, and they went back to their home and offered you a new short quest as your reward. But if you tried to steal from their house, they murdered you.

So yeah, every time I sneak my way to a hostage, I laugh hard when they say "thanks for the rescue" and leave, running right past all the mobs that should theoretically attack.

you could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you <3

With all the improvements to Stalkers, it's perfectly viable to just switch off hide for escorts.

Not really new. Rikti Diplomat from the Midnight Club mission does the same thing

It's 106 miles to Grandville, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing faceless helmets

... Hit it ...

You mean "Rescue Argot'BurWot"? He's not a diplomat, and if you pay attention, he's Rikti-to-Primal Earth translator is backwords.

Therefore, "I'll follow you to exit" is really "I can find the exit on my own".

the clue is where he is grateful for rescuing you.
