Invasions vs Events
/em rasiehand.
I like invasions. It makes it feel like there is actual a country-sized army of a threat when I normally only see Nemesis/Rikti chatting in zones or running about in missions.

If Masterminds didn't suck, they'd be the most powerful AT in the game.
These invasions are terrible. You never feel threatened since it always scales to your level and number of players. An actual invasion would be hundreds of Nemesis all over all the zones where NO ONE is safe. Or have Nemesis randomly appear in your other indoor missions to ambush you.
If this invasion culminated in a building-sized Lord Nemesis attacking, maybe I'd find it more interesting. As it is, the other day, all it did was add targets to me preventing a Paladin construction. I see enough Nemesis all over the place that they're nothing special.

Farewell is like the end

And there you'll always be

I don't know Bill. I agree it can be annoying. I have been on a Numina that suffered through an extended period of total inactivity while we waited for Nemesis to be repelled from invading Kings Row and that same team found itself battling another invasion in Founders Falls while the leader was still recruiting members for the same TF.
That aside to date I have completed the requirements for defeating Fake Nemesis on three different characters without the need to spend hours roaming around Peregrine Island or taking an extended trip to the Shadow Shard. All three of those characters now has the Freedom Phalanx Reserve Member Badge and the added 10% total health. The friend I often team with has managed to complete the requirement on two of his characters and earn the FPRM Badge as well.
Now I REALIZE as soon as I suggest this someone will start screaming they can only play between X an Y on Z day and I am denying them their right to particiapte but IF they'd just cut back on the number of invasions a day or even limit it to 1 zone at a time it would be helpful... I have found myself battling Nemesis in PI while the Hero Broadcast was informing me that Nemesis was attacking Steel Canyon or Kings Row and another invasion or more was taking place in the Rogue Isles. The novelty has warn off a bit so do we really need 4-5 invasions running at once when its tough to even get one GOOD SIZED league running in one zone? By months end I too may be ready to rip the beating heart out of the chest of who ever decided this event should last 30 days but for now I could live with it just being toned down... Hey I have other characters I could log and get the defeat badge on.
Edit: Oh to answer your question NO I am by no means chomping at the bit for more and more of them LOL

even the first day the event seemed kind of lackluster due to the fact that it was just reskinned invasions with an added GM
it was fun maybe 2-3 times but after that it wasnt any different than any other invasion
The existing Nemesis event could be so much better with a few changes.
Instead of using the same Rikti Invasion spawning system, have Nemesis Mole Machines pop up in select areas of the zones that are clearly marked on the map and have the enemies spawn there. Just there. And don't stop the regular zone mobs from spawning.
That way you don't screw players who are trying to street sweep/hunt a specific enemy for a mission/TF, etc. You also don't block areas near stores and everyone who participates knows where to gather.
In addition to this, I agree with Bill that there could be other things besides just the invasion going on, like Tips/door missions/a new arc.
But realistically, the Nemesis invasion was created just for the 8th anniversary. While they probably will reuse it occasionally (and they should for a week to mark Brass Monday each year) we probably wont see it lasting a whole month ever again after this one is over. Also they probably will have something else entirely for the 9th anniversary, Fates willing we have one.
.
I've participated in exactly one Nemesis zone invasion so far, across approximately 20 characters I've logged in over the time they've been running. Otherwise, all they've done is forced me to go inside when using the auction house via /ah instead of doing it as soon as I exit my missions.
I don't know if it's just my perception, though, but are Rikti invasions happening a little more often this week? I remember for a while they were happening constantly (even after the event that introduced them ended), and they were scaled back to almost nothing... I always thought maybe the devs over-corrected a bit and should maybe find some middle ground. More than they've been for the last few months, less than they were when they were new. But then, Rikti invasions have a point, a goal to work toward -- the accolade associated with them. Nemesis? Feh. Give me something to drive for and I'll be more interested.
FUN FACT: That burst of light when you level up is actually the effectiveness escaping from your enhancements all at once.
Add me to the hate zone events side.
I'd rather the devs use dev time to fix bugs and create new shiny powersets than ugh, another zone event.

Zwill did say there was going to be a live aspect to this at a later date.
However, yeah, after the 1st few days, this invasion seems to get the ignore treatment. What a shame.

Don't know if they're planning more.
I'm not actually complaining about *this* event being just a reskin, to tackle that tangent. It's "only" the 8th anniversary. If it were the 10th, I'd be much more disappointed. Though I do agree with J_B about having the mole machines.
On the plus side, at least it's not Praetorians. >.>
OK, so who's absolutely chomping at the bit for YET MORE invasions this month?
... yeah, don't expect to see a lot of hands raised. (And not just because it's on a forum, so I can't see anyway.) The general reaction in the global channels, by now, seems to be indifference to the Nemesis invasion (and really, since there's just one badge and nothing all that *interesting* about them...) if not hostility (for interference with hunts, costume missions, Numina, etc.)
For future events, how about this:
- If you must have an invasion, limit it to a week. That really seems to be about the limit for people to do much of anything with them.
- Have an "event" of some sort alongside - for instance, the special misisons, etc. we had for halloween (the tip drop) and the like. Stuff that doesn't interfere with normal gameplay, isn't annoying, and can be done solo or on a team. Throw in a more themed task/strike force (after all, the tab's there in LFG.) This lets the event continue without being disruptive.
Basically, let the invasion be *part* of the event, but not the whole thing - or the longest running, most disruptive part of it.
