incarnate shards
Would like to know if there are any plans to increase the drop rates of incarnate shards?
I played for 2 and a half hours using 2 wind falls and only accumulated 1 incarnate shard. My settings are at 0/+4 so that I can kill as many enemies as I can handle without being in the hospital all the time. I know that astral merits can be turned into shards but soloing is making for a VERY long and tedious process. So how about increasing the incarnate shard drop rate a little bit? Below is from the Paragon Wiki, As of the April 5th, 2011 patch, any non-gray enemy can have a chance to drop Incarnate Shards; the drop rate has not been stated officially, but based on over fourteen thousand defeats, an approximate number is available: Defeats;......... Do the WTF for a Notice of the Well each week, which can be broken down into shards. Or run trials and use threads to make your incarnate powers.

The devs have said that as the higher tier slots come about they'll start making the lower tier slots easier to unlock. No word yet on the plans to phase out shards, only that that's what we've been told.
I think that would kind of make sense to get rid of them, because after t4 alfa you really don't need them, unless they are going to use them after opening up other incarnate abilities.

You don't even need them for Alpha, since you can use Threads to make them... and it's often easier/faster!
I think phasing Shards out completely would be the best option, in a manner similar to base salvage years ago.

Expand the window downward, and you'll see a second "recipe" - top one's for shards, bottom one's for threads and thread-made components.
The only thing that makes shards somewhat easier at this point is with the weekly strike target you're offered a guaranteed notice, so even if you do say, a BAF, Lamb and Keyes and still manage to pull no rares you know you've got the WST. PLus it means any salvage you do get from them can be used toward other abilities.
I tend to craft a common from shards, then a T2 from thread stuff, then a T3 from shards.
Did a BAF, STF, and APEX...got t3 Alpha...

The quirky RNG certainly hates me most of the time. Day and a half of hardcore play and only three shards, but strangely three purple recipes which never happens to me.

In fact if you're set on doing shard stuff you may as well do the endgame TFs. All of them offer a shard common component. Or if you can you can also get in on a Hamidon raid which awards 4 shards, which equates to any common you like.
Though really, thread stuff is still faster. You can get a guaranteed daily 10 threads from the Dark Astoria repeatables and a weekly 10 threads and an astral merit (= 4 threads) from the SSAs. Not to mention mobs in Dark Astoria have a pretty decent rate at dropping threads, way higher than shards at the least.
ITF is a good co op shard farm essentially, if you are redside the barracuda sf is also pretty good for shards (highest i seen is someone getting like 21 shards from a barracuda)
i agree that shards are kind of moot at this point, but they do slow incarnate progression if you do not play DA or trials very much
