In the same way that Invulnerability with a second costume slot made of Stone and/or Omega costume pieces is a thematic match for Stone Melee.

I just hope they don't take forever to release more Melee Defense Sets. And hope they don't go the route of "must have gimmicks!"

I'd just like to see more defense sets with various styles.

Hmm, I don't know. Many prefer defense sets with minimal FX and just use the costume creator for appearance. In which case a new set will need gimmicks to set it apart.

"FX heavy" could itself be considered a gimmick by some.

I really should do something about this signature.

They tend to prefer them on sets that don't have an established look. fire is fire Lightning is lightning, rocks is rocks, and ice is ice. Bio armor BETTER have some good effects. Moreover it should probably come in "Squishy" "metal" "liquid" and "Exoskelton" versions

Haha. What was I thinking. Perhaps I'll have to make a Tank version now. Tho I try to limit the number of Tanks I have.

Im not likely to get what Im looking for, but I do hope to get something close at some point!

Bio Armor doesnt look to be a defense set and people are hyped about it.

I don't think he means "defense" as in the gameplay function, and more "defense" as in "protection from harm" I.e. All the Melee Secondaries/Tanker Primaries.

Yeah, I'm sure that's what I meant. Doesn't make any difference, you still have to find some way to make the set different from the existing sets, whether it be appearance or game-play (preferably both). Which means you will eventually need "gimmicks".

Is "absorb" a gimmick?

As for apperance of Bio Armor, I can see two ways to go, but hopefully we will get both as an option.

For example, lets consider the S/L shield (Hardened Carapace?). This could be spine and ribs that come out of the body (using a similar method as Rock Armor) (as in the above drawing, or the armor worn by vaz reapers). But you would probably want a less "meaty" version as well. Alblative carapace could cover the body with tendrils (similar to Hoarfrost FX, or neo-Shivans), which could be coloured red for veins or green for plants (or whatever). and so on.

Wondering if I could play this off as a sort of 'Adaptive Armor'...

Goodbye. Not to the game, but the players. Goodbye. Everyone, remember to have fun. That's all I can say.

When I say gimmick, I was going by a redname saying "new sets will have gimmicks" so I'm guessing Absorb is a gimmick.

Hmmm...but I did come up with an interresting gimmick for a Defense set...will have to make a suggestion on it in the suggestion thread.

I'm kinda thinking Bio Armor's appearance will use the tech from the Victorian aura (Though in a less transparent manner).

Then I'm still hoping they go back and create alternative gfx for Ice/Stone using said tech. Ice Cube Armor has got to go!*

*(but still be an option for that odd people who actually like it)

Absorb would have to be considered Bio's "gimmick" I guess, if it was considered to have one, though I don't really see it as such.

Dual Blades
Kinetic Melee
Street Justice
Titan Weapons
Staff Fighting
Dual Pistols
Beam Rifle
Time Manipulation
Nature Affinity
Beast Mastery

All of their set gimmicks require some type interaction between the set's own powers in some way, Absorption doesn't. It's more of an effect type than a set mechanic.

Gimmick Aura [toggle] hostile targets take minor psi dot when within 10' of the player. In addition, they have a 5% chance of being granted the effect Gimmicked which does nothing on it's own..

Gimicky Burst [pbaoe click] does moderate cold damage. In addition, if the target is affected by Gimmicked they are turned into a fluffy kitten.

I just hope that they proliferate Spines to tankers and brutes at the same time they release Bio Armor. I really want to make either a bio/spines or a spines/bio.

"Absorb" has significant balance implications that really need to be worked through thoroughly. If the post earlier in the thread is correct, absorb+defence >> absorb+resistance. This is a further nail in the coffin of 1% def = 2% res that has been used to balance defensive sets for years,

But Absorb+Defense+Resistanece >> Absorb+Defense.

1% Def = 2% Res has been glaringly wrong for years. Not least of which because all ATs have the same (effective) defense cap, but most ATs have lower resistance caps.

This is all true.

However, Bio Armor has been stated to be an Absorb+Res+Regen. NO Def. If the amount of absorb is balanced about the rest of the set, then Bio Armor will gain abnormal benefit from +Def powers (Broadsword, Katana, Staff, TW, tanker MA, Weave). To the extent that unless Absorb is only small all other choices would be gimped.

Hence, the needs A LOT OF TESTING before release. NOW with insufficient testing would be bad.

i might HAVE to play a spines character finally.

as much as i love thorns and it's extra range-y-ness, bio armor just sounds so delicious!
