Event Fail
I'm a newbie and we ran into a group fighting in Cap au Diable and joined having no clue what was going on. Nemesis spawned but we didn't kill him.
Will I be able to try again this weekend or will it be over by then?
When stuff spawns you can see the invaders but not target them for a few seconds, though they can be hit with AoE.
If they spawned properly so you could attack them as soon as the appeared people would likely be more careful with their targetting. |
I forgot how fustrating it can be until I not much to do with my lv32 Dual Blades brute but continually spam his spin attack over and over and hope to connect with something.
CoH has been unique in the sea of cloned MMOs.There are years of possibilities still
in such a well designed, well supported and well loved game.Shutting it down now doesn't
make sense on any level except, perhaps, on some spreadsheets bottom line. I do not
consider this an act of a company that has the interests of its customers at heart. This
calls into question why I would want to be part of any further ventures involving NCSoft.
This event has made me realize just how fail most players are. Everyone spams AOEs and incarnate nukes at the nemesis swarms willy-nilly, not cluing into the reason they're league-wiping.
I remember when people actually knew what to do with things like nemesis Lts. Nowadays it's zerg 100% of the time. Push butan until all dead. Sad. ![]() |
This is one of the reasons so many spam AOE's. If they'd fix that mechanic people wouldn't have to spam AOE's so much.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.
Black Pebble is my new hero.
I generally avoid these invasion events now because of the lag it causes, the spammy AoE nature that has been discussed, and they just aren't interesting to me anymore. Whatever tech they said they implemented reduce lag for these kind events frankly I haven't seen it make a difference.

Just ran into this same thing here at work. Gotta get home and beat up bad guys to blow off steam. After that, I'll log into COH.

2) Even if #1 wasn't true, they still die too fast(or wipe the floor with my characters due to being low level and buggy....I swear this invasion drains health faster than anything, even on a willpower brute) for me to do much.
3) They possibly did make it perform better, but, with all the incarnate powers and ability for everyone to use a lot more powers more often(due to IOs mostly), there is just so much spam of information across the internet that it even causes server lag.
They just haven't worked on minimizing the information transfer, possibly reworking how toggles work or changing powers to be more "MMO infrastructure friendly".
It will only get worse with new incarnate slots, and whatever comes after that....
The reason for delayed attack is probably a hold-over from the zombie invasion. Remember that the zombies take 15 minutes (might be exaggerating there) to climb out of the ground, during which you can't ST attack them. IF that is the case, bad programmer, no cookie! It's the same thing that ticks me off how some of the pet summoning powers don't work while flying, while others do. It appears to just be a bad case of "where did I copy the code from". Eventually, you have 15 copies of nearly the same code and nobody wants to try to get them all to work the same way.

I imagine it was intended to give players a chance to see and target enemies, despite lag, before they were already defeated.
That does not work as intended because they may be "untargetable" but they are not invulnerable to splash AoE damage or pet targeting and damage.
It is a failure in design though.

Why Blasters? Empathy Sucks.
So, you want to be Mental?
What the hell? Let's buff defenders.
Tactics are for those who do not have a big enough hammer. Wisdom is knowing how big your hammer is.
A possible solution would be to have enemies spawn a random distance (say between 30 and 70 feet) away from a player in a random direction and then run at the player, rather than have them just spawn right on top of you. Could make for more fluid fights, but it also could cause too much separation of leagues (although it could also cause aggro management and positioning tools to be more useful).

I love the invasions and don't really have lag issues (And no I do not have some uber computer hehe) - I just run things on performance setting.
With the Nem invasion it has been nice to get the unveiler badge easily - aside from that and the boss badge though I don't run it unless friends ask.

Frame rate slowdown is tolerable because I can still activate powers and stay alive. Internet slowdown is not tolerable.
I actually have a really good computer so frame rate is not a problem most of the time, even though these invasions even push that to the limit.

And if you dont untarget and retarget it will stay invalid for you even as it takes damage and dies to other peoples attacks.
Ive given up on single target attacks and holds and just drop non-targeted AoEs and rain type powers. Every once and a while Ill be able to tab though and lock on to a target thats valid and Ill hit it with a targeted AoE but I wont waste my time with anything less.
