Yet another Avengers ad this one centered on THOR

All these promos worry me. Isn't the old chestnut that the more promotion a movie gets, the less faith the studio has in it? Or is that passé in these days of Internet supremecy?

If a studio has no faith in a movie, then why would it sink millions of dollars into extra advertising for it? Wouldn't that just put a heavier burden on the movie to make back the money spent on it?

Goodbye, I guess.

They really need to stop with all of these. Everyone and their mother already knows it's coming out on May 4th. We don't need to see half the movie before then. Quit ******* with Whedon's work, marketing people!

I'm more impressed with some of the tweets that came out last night's premiere.

@brubaker Avengers was awesome. Felt like Joss Whedon in all the right ways while still feeling like the best of Marvel. It's going to be really huge.

@Christosgage AVENGERS was fantastic. Even you, internet, are going to love it.

@DamonLindelof The Hulk we have been waiting for has at last arrived. #AvengersF***Yeah

@Paul_Dini Just arrived home from #THEAVENGERS premiere with mind blown, s*** lost and a smile that won't leave my face. The superhero movie perfected.

‏@SethGreen So that was AMAZING. Like, double plus awesome. Thank you Joss Whedon for giving us all the #Avengers movie we deserve. #OnlyYou

This one tweet, from a personal hero of mine, means more to me than all the advertising and all the hype there ever was.

If Paul Dini said THAT, then I am officially salivating to see this movie.

No, if they don't have faith in a movie they don't screen it for critics ahead of time.

They ALL float down here. When you're down here with us, you'll float too!

I'm betting these are promo clips for each of the stars as they do the talk show circuit.

All I know is that years ago, the general correlation was, the more ads you saw for a movie, the worse the movie was. If a studio had faith in a movie, they ran a few ads on TV and knew word-of-mouth and "buzz" would fill the seats. If they didn't think they'd get good word of mouth, they would advertise the film to within an inch of its life in an attempt to have a blockbuster first weekend before anyone realized what a stinker the movie was.

That's why movies like Raiders of the Lost Arc had far fewer TV spots than movies like Friday the Thirteenth, Part Five - Jason Gets a Zit.

I'm not saying that's the case with Avengers, or even that it's not a theory that's past its time, but believe me, that's the way it used to work.

I've always thought this myself but Joss Whedon wrote the screenplay and is directing so I have a 100% faith.
