Dark madness died out already?
You have to bounce back and forth like a psychotic ping pong ball to get the most use out of the powers (not really an issue for the controller). If you miss lining up during any of those bounces you waste the power(s) and you are all ready only half as effective because of all the time you waste bouncing back and forth. Its also the one primary that you can't solve that with perma and skipping the powers that don't fit in one category or the other. |
I really do think people overestimate the effect of stun-wander. It doesn't bother me most of the time, especially in indoor maps where walls and such keep the enemies in a generally contained area. Outside, yeah, sometimes a couple wander outside my AoEs, but it really doesn't cost me much effort to chase them down later, let my pets or teammates get them, or just wait for them to come back to me once the stun has worn off (while I continue to wail on whatever's closest).
Arc #40529 : The Furies of the Earth
Gremlins built with Endurance Modification are more than fine. Anyway, if the Electricity pet looked like, I don't know, a big Mountain Lion with electric bolts shooting out of it I probably wouldn't like Electric Control either. For me the more abstract the pet the better.
|
I just want to clarify:
My dark control psi Dom is a very powerful toon.
I laugh at incarnate combat and don't even have to use a control beyond fearsome stare usually.
I don't play it due to the howling that is all.
Once I am done with my staff stalker, I plan on chaninging it into an earth/psi.
When something good happens to me, I can never enjoy it....
I am always too busy looking for the inevitable punchline...
BEHOLD THE POWER OF CHEESE!
I have no issues with my dark/dark dom...I play with the sound off normally, so the howling has never been an issue. I like the combo's ability to play at range and melee, it gives you choices....which a lot of combos don't.
Don't I know you???
Gather Shadows is a self-buff, not a melee range power. Are you confusing it with something else?
|
I'm not sure I'd agree with "half as effective", but the various cone sizes and ranges are definitely the reason I skipped both the Cone Immob (Living Shadows) in Dark Control and Nightfall (the cone DoT) from Dark Assault in my main level 50 build. That leaves me with Fearsome Stare (the Fear) as my only cone, which I can open with before moving into melee range to lay down the smack down with all my other powers. |
If I don't take a second to realign the cone power(s) or my target mob is in motion before the power activates I sometimes hit only 1 target or just a couple drastically reducing their total effectiveness. It may not be half but it is too much of a ding for me to seriously consider playing dark much more.
I'm just glad it's not a power set that I had to pay for and then find out that I didn't like it (I'm looking at you Beam Rifle).

If you're noticing the howling it's because you're standing around too much. Go fight and watch inky tear **** up.
Please buff Ice Control.
I have it slotted in Jolting Chain, Stone Mallet, Tremor, Heavy Mallet and Stone Spears...You can also slot it in Fissure...which I will do once my toon gets to level 38. I also have Ascendency of the Dominator: Recharge/Chance for +DMG slotted in chain fences for extra damage. FF is almost always activated during battles.
Of course the limit is 5 of the same procs per build.
ahh nice, i forgot FF wasn't limited to one slotting. i was going to have to stretch to put one in my build, course i'm perma-hasten/dom already so not hurting for recharge, just greedy
I have a question about Wolfie the wonder dog. At higher levels and at the Incarnate level how well does he survive in melee?
Most of my dom's play in melee with capped defense to S/L (at least) I have found that Jack Frost, the Fire Pimps and the Fly Trap would bite the dust faster than the power would recharge on a perma-dom build.

Dark assault is a nice blapper set with a heal.
I am having a real hard time getting excited about dark control though, even ignoring the wolfie issues.

Jack Frost should be awesome now! Have you tested him out recently?

I'm still working my dark/psi/ice through the DA arcs - I think she's at 98% judge & interface with t2s for both crafted (because rares apparently do not drop from the arcs. *sigh*). She's very strong damage-wise, although maybe not super-survivable (assuming something is uncontrolled...) and a lot of fun. I play with the volume way down so the howling doesn't really bother me. This game has always had serious volume issues for me - when I have the volume on I have it at like 8% and it's as loud or louder than my music with the relevant sliders in all places (OS, program, etc.) maxed. So my volume mostly sits at 4-6% and I pretty much don't hear anything.

My Dark/Dark Dom is the only toon who actually could keep me away from my main toon which i have been playing on a daily base for close to two years now.
She's 50, has a few T4 most T3 Incarnate powers, and she is done with slotting... 7 purple sets. >.<
Anyways, she's in my top 5 of favo toons, prob 3rd.. Neph being 1st and my Tank being second.....so far

I've seen this mentioned a few times - what got buffed and when? I must have missed the patch note.

Other stealth Controller/Dominator pet buffs include:
Jack Frost
60% Resistant to Cold
10% Resistant to Fire
25% Defense vs. Smashing, Lethal, Energy, Negative Energy, Psionic, AOE
35% Defense vs. Fire, Cold
Fly Trap
30% Resistant to Smashing, Energy, Negative Energy, Cold, Toxic, Psionic
25% Defense vs. Psionic
+200% Regeneration
(He loses his weakness to fire, cold and negative)
Gremlins
40% Resistant to Energy
30% Resistant to Smashing, Lethal
Jack Frost now cycles through his sword attacks properly. Before he'd use one of the sword attacks and not use the others.

Thanks Snowzone. I think Gremlins still need something...maybe more resistance? The only reason why they are so fragile is because they are the most Aggressive Pet in the entire Game.
I'm not kidding, they make Fire Imps blush.
The Fly Trap Buff was needed as well...poor guy has been buffed 2 or 3 times.

Good Call! Unslot and sell those purples! Or slot them on another toon!

My 1st Dominator, and kinda like i did with Nephila, i broke the mold.
No, i do not have Hasten, i couldn't justify from a concept point of view how something dark has glowing hands, so no, i'm not a permadom either.
I am however pretty solid in the style of play i made for myself, and so far i had no complaints on a league.
And as you can see.. 7 Purple sets, 1 ATO set and a PvP set, without braking any 'rules'. :P
EDIT: This was my blueprint build, ingame build has all procs like Kismet, LotG, Numi, Miracle, Regen Tiss, Perf Shift, BotZ and Celerity at their lowest possible levels.
