Do you use global channels? Do you set colors?

Yup, absolutely...

Orange for LB, Blue tint for Ghost Legion, and a dark Green for Healers Union chat are my standard go to colors, I've also recently taken to coloring the UI to match the colors in the character's costume.

I do use global channels, I don't set colors for them

I do change the color for my speech bubble

and my threads are as often as not based on things I don't do. I find it fascinating that people powerlevel for example. It is just so bizarre that I want to poke them and find out what sort of creatures they are.

I subscribe to 2 global channels, both Liberty-related. They're colored the same and serve basically the same function: if people are looking for help or extra bodies for something.

I use my tabs more to filter stuff.

My General-use tab: most chat, in-game npc, chat, etc, including globals.
My Antisocial tab: as above, but with global removed. used when the chatter in those channels gets too distracting or causes the chat to scroll too fast to follow what I'm doing
My Ignore-the-game tab: all system, game & npc messages removed. used rarely, but helps follow global chat easier when needed.
My I-hate-myself tab: the help channel. Used when I really really desperately need self-abuse.

Hell yeah I use global channels! Don't know what I did without them!

Whenever I have a chance I push the global channels on n00bs. Someone did the same for me once.

I play on all servers so it is difficult to get by on only 15 channels, so generally I pick the most populated and/or active ones. I also keep all of them running in one window so I can see whats going on and can server hop at any time if I see something fun going on. It does get hectic during peak hours!

Because I server hop so much (and have too many toons to remember their names and what server they are on) - I colour the channel(s) of the server I am currently playing on red (though not as red as the admin text).

Therefore, if I see something red, I can run and do it. If its not red, I switch.

Fool-proof?

Almost.....

Sometimes people pick annoying colors on purpose.

I actually find that easier to read against the reddish background than the blue. Against the blue it irritates my eyes.

Yes, I use global channels, constantly. I solo more than I team unless I'm working on an Incarnate, so I'm doing my chatting in globals.

And yes, I set their colors. I use multiple tabs, but those tabs are more categorical than per-channel. My brain doesn't key readily on the channel name - it keys on the color. If channels on the same tab are the same color, I can't tell at a glance what channel that something was said in, and might reply in the wrong channel.

Yes, I use globals. No, I don't recolor them. I have tabs for that.

(One tab for each channel in my main chat window, for sending/easy switching and regular reading, and also a tall window that opens on the far right side of my screen, with tabs for Local (+emotes), Team (+emotes), and my most commonly used channels - that one's for reviewing history and following long conversations with less scrolling.)
