thread and shards
Shards are old news. You don't even really need them since Alpha stuff can be crafted with Threads nowadays (although I personally find Shards to be easier).
Shards don't drop in the trials either.

Basically, once you unlock the alpha slot, Shards can drop from mostly any content at all levels (you don't just need to farm at 50 or run the WTF).
Content that drops threads can drop shards (at least I feel like I've gotten Shards in some of the early iTrials). However, the new DA zone does not drop shards, and only drops threads.

Negaduck: I see you found the crumb. I knew you'd never notice the huge flag.
To further clarify, you can get Incarnate Shards anywhere except the Incarnate Trials and Dark Astoria as long as you're fighting even-level or higher enemies.

An important thing to note is that Shards can ONLY be used to craft Alpha stuff, but threads can be used for all incarnate slots.
Shards can be converted to threads, though.

I prefer to make t1 and t3 with shards; I often try to make the t2 with threads, since uncommons are so easy to get from trials (I'm mostly burned out on trials, but even I can stomach 1-2 per character). I then save whatever shards/notices I get and slowly build a t4.
The Dev's mentioned in yesterday's coffee talk that Shards are being phased out entirely. Was more of a stop gap measure put in place to kick off the system. Threads will be the mainstay currency from here on out.

I have everything I need except the one rare component for my t3. And for that I need 4 uncommons, which need 60 threads each. Of course they're phasing out shards.

Well, of course they're phasing out shards. Shards are about all I've used so far and I'm now working on my t3 Alpha. Threads would have taken twice as long, easily.

Based on this I suspect that threads will become much more common than they are now. It'll likely be easy to rack up hundreds (or even thousands) of threads becuase you'll actually need that many to buy the top tiers of the new powers. In that environment using threads to craft Alpha powers will become almost trivial.

Any idea about alpha slot? Will that change?

Yes, I RP and play Redside on Virtue - No, Rumors of its demise have been greatly exaggerated
Do you suck at COH/COV? not yet...
Interesting bit of trivia here - when you're in the hospital during an Incarnate Trial, you are off the Incarnate Drop/XP tables. This means that you will not earn Incarnate XP, will not have Threads or Catalysts drop, and can in fact have a Shard drop while you're in there.

On my freakmap farm i get shards and on the new DA stuff i get only threads.
Am i mistaken in thinking that shards are Incarnate content as well.
is there a reason Shards cannot be gotten any other way then the farming in a designated non incarnate farm or in a tf of the week run?
Is there a seperation if so can someone explain it to me i am unaware as to the distinction of the two
