What do I do with reward merits?
If your intention is to make money, the best thing to buy varies; ask in the Market forums for help with that.
If your intention is to help with your own builds, just watch for things that cost more than you want to spend in Inf, and buy those with Merits instead.
The level slider ONLY works for direct purchases, and when you buy a specific recipe, it will come at the level selected. If you choose a level that the recipe doesn't exist at (for example looking for LotG at level 20 or Touch of Death at 50), the recipe will not show up on your list.
Random rolls will always be generated at your current XP level (changing your combat level by sidekicking or exemplaring, or having a Security/Threat level that's different from your XP level because you haven't trained will NOT alter the recipe rolls). If you generate a recipe by random roll that doesn't exist at your level, you will get the highest level it exists at (if you are above its level range) or the lowest it exists at (if you are lower).
@Roderick
Level 25 LotGs are still a safe investment.
Alternately, you could convert them to Alignment Merits and get much more bang for your merit.
50 + 20,000,000 influence becomes a Hero merit. 2 Hero Merits becomes a LotG. So, 100 merits +40 million for an IO that would cost 240 Reward merits and should net you at least 100 million is a pretty good deal.
It's time gated, but it's the best deal you're likely to get for your merits if you want to make money off them.

Not so much anymore...
Lvl 25 LoTG's were selling for 50-60 million last I checked (earlier this week)
That had been my cash crop since SSA's came out, sadly it looks like all the various methods to get them has started to cut into it. It could've just been a 24 hour fluke with someone running the inventory though.
Now I'm going for Steadfast +Def atm.
Maestro Mavius - Infinity
Capt. Biohazrd - PCSAR

I have a ton of them now with the hero packs and TFs and such. What is the best thing to buy with them as far as money wise or usefulness. It used to be LotG or oblit, but the market is screwy, so I don't know any more. Also, if I set the level at the merit vendor and use the merits for recipes, will they still be max level or what I set the bar at? Thanks in advance.

I'd actually recommend holding your Reward Merits for now. Eventually you can use them to buy Enhancement Converters and once they hit the game things will get even goofier in the market.
However if you are looking to simply convert them to quick cash I'd suggest buying the level 20 Miracle Recovery, the level 25 LotG global recharge, and the level 30 Numina's Regen/Recovery. Those never seem to go out of style. Don't sell them as recipes. Craft them and sell the enhancements. However a lot of people may be doing this now (which is why I recommend holding onto them for now) and the salvages are more expensive than usual.
And don't throw a lot of them onto the market at the same time. When people see a high bid number and a low for sale number they tend to pay more than when they see a closer balance between the two numbers. During 2xp weekend (16-19) people will be paying to get their IOs so that is a better time to sell than right now. would be.
total kick to the gut

This is like having Ra's Al Ghul show up at your birthday party.
I haven't checked in a few weeks but I used to make a nice chunk by buying Kinetic Combat Acc/Dam for 50 merits, crafting and then selling them for 50-70 million. It was a sure thing and a good return on investment... especially since as an uncommon that recipe isn't available for A Merits.
Buy the recipe at max level (35) and then craft it (only common/uncommon salvage) then toss it on the market.

Is there a cap on the amount of Alignment merits you can hold at one time? I wanted to convert all my merits to A merits but even after the 20 hour cool down the option to convert doesn't so up. I currently have 2 A merits on that toon.
Who do I have to *&^% around here to get more Targeted AoE recipes added?

I know for a fact that you can have 90 A Merits... I've a buddy who likes to collect them. For that matter there's some things that cost as much as 35 A Merits. Right now I've a couple of characters who have 8-10 A Merits each on them.

Thanks for all the replies. The market fluctuation is what throws me. I think I will hold them and see what I need to craft. I scored a lot of cash with the AT enhancements too, so I'm not strapped anymore. I will just throw it all at my new dark/dark Dom to go for perma probably.
Probably 9999 however I've never heard of anyone reaching it. Remember that to convert merits into an A Merit requires 50 merits and 20 million influence. Is it possible that you've run low on inf on that toon? If you have 50 merits and 20 million inf, and you've gone beyond the conversion cool down then you should be able to convert. If not then it appears you've found a bug.

I don't have any good advice other than "The market is screwy right now."
People have been pouring reward merits into the obvious, and less obvious, things. I'd probably try AM's with 25-29 random rolls but I've been sitting this dance out lately.
Or you could hold onto them for a while- once people have the shiniest Reward Pack items, they'll probably calm down SOMEWHAT.

So you think you're a hero, huh.

When I'm in full "I need money to finish this build" mode, I convert to alignment merits and buy level 40 miracle uniques or level 50 LoTGs... (the lower level ones often sell for more, but they sell slower and I'm more of a "lets get money NOW!" type guy.
I also use alignment merits to buy my own LoTGs for my own builds.. .and I also use them to get low level stealth recipes that just aren't for sale for use on my own toons.
I gotta make pain. I gotta make things right. I gotta stop what's comin'. 'Least I gotta try.
