Slighty concerned

I have been playing this game for quite a few years now, and I have never seen an issue get so many people worked up. I haven't been really paying much intention to the beta forums because I love surprises. That said with i22 going live in a few hours I thought I would pop in for a sec and get a preview. What I found was that 2 of my favorite players Bill Z and Golden are really on opposite ends with i22. I hope that they can work out their differences, I have played with both of them and they both rock. This may be the wrong place for this. But I know that both read the forums often and I hope in helps. If this needs deleted mods please do so, I won't be mad.

Aren't Bill Z Bubba and Golden Girl usually, or at least often in opposing corners?

I take it that the contentious issue this time revolves around the solo incarnate progress (or lack thereof) in the new Dark Astoria...

Yep solo is the issue, this time. Maybe it's me but I read more anger this time in their sparring.

That's just been heating up a bit over the last few months during the testing stage.
They should return to the normal level of ignoring each other after tomorrow.

The 'solo' path created a bit of turmoil over it's speed compared to the trials, with GG being the most vocal proponent of trials and Bill being resonable...

I'll stop there before I derail.

Suffice it to say, business as usual really.

One of the parties has contributed a great deal to the community, especially in regards to solo play, and has a good feel for solo progression.

The other disagrees with people for the sake of disagreeing with people, and enjoys this.

I'm not concerned in the least, except in that the solo incarnate progression path is much, much, much slower than the trial path.

Bill is probably right that the drop rate for soloists on the Incarnate path is too low. But if I were a Dev, I would most definitely not bump it up based on data from Beta but wait to see what the hard core farmers can do with the current rate on Live before bumping it up to something more reasonable.

GG ignores numbers and just pokes an angry bees nest in this regard.

Hardcore farmers should not be used to determine a speed for content meant for normal players. Hardcore farmers will likely still be using the trials, anyways. I do think that starting a little low, and then bumping up is better than the other way around. My problem is that the Devs tend to be a lot slower to bump things up when they need it than they should be.

Well personally I expect the solo path to be significantly slower simply because it's soloing. Then again if solo progression is too slow then it's not worth bothering with and ends up being a waste of time and resources to have developed. There has to be middle ground everyone can live with.

Except GG, she enjoys being ornery and her opinions should be ignored.

Since I won't be using the trials, that means I'm not a hardcore farmer and my data points should be used to determine speed of content, right?

PhantomRanger, thanks for the kind words. MaestroMavius is right about mine and that other person's future interactions.

I did say "likely".

The point is more that you're going to have three basic groups running the solo incarnate content.

1) "Hardcore" runners, who will be running it as much as possible, even so much as going through only the easiest content that gives the best rewards/time.

2) "Normal" players that don't have the time or inclination to do the trials, but will be running through all of the content, regardless of reward speed.

3) "Casual" players who may occasionally go into Dark Astoria, but won't do it every day or even week.

Now, the "Normal" faction is a tough one to define, since you're going to have players that only play a few days a week, or also have people that play every day, but probably wouldn't be considered hardcore players. But that is the group that you should be looking to balance it around.

If that group is taking months to achieve what trial runners can do in a day, then the progress rate is too slow. If the hardcore farmers can do it in a week, then it's still slower than the trials, though.

Agreed. As it stands now, what a hardcore farmer can do in a month is what a PUG trialist can pull off in a weekend.

I don't even like to think how little that means I will be getting out of it.

And this has been repeatedly backed up with simple math in the beta forums. As opposed to certain opinions that keep getting thrown around.

She's not simple, she just ignores or misrepresents facts that don't support her opinions. There is a difference.

On what server and play schedule, though? I know on Pinnacle, trials happen (very nearly exclusively) in the evenings, and I have heard complaints about such timing on the channels. I am very, VERY excited to be able to make any sort of progress on my 50s while playing in the mornings.

But this from the one who purposely avoids both beta server and beta forums prior to a big release like this, so what do I know?

I'm new-ish. Again.
@Kahzi. Pinnacle, mostly.

If you play at off-times, you will make progress on incarnate stuff. However, you will make it at a SIGNIFICANTLY slower pace than running even a single iTrial that week.
