Where would escrima/kali sticks fall as a powerset?
As someone who has taught escrima/kali/arnis for 20+ years the movements of the dual blade set closely resemble the arts. Alot of the cut patterns are very siniwali/sombrada like.
The question becomes though; is that style unique enough to be considered as its own powerset, or would it (with the right weapon models) fall into the Dual Blades or other weapon-based powerset? I think it's probably too niche to ever be considered for becoming an actual powerset (too much to hope for, I think) but I'd be terribly happy if the weapon models worked themselves into the game somewhere so I could at least act the part.

There's no good reason for them not to just be a custom weapon to Dual Blades.
The damage type doesn't match, but neither do some of the Titan Weapons, Warmace and the Fire and Ice VIP weapon models. So yeah, bang out a couple of 5 sided cylinders from 3dsmax, add wood textures, rigging helper objects and done. That should be less than an afternoon's work.
Now, tonfa would require it's own power set. It's a specialized set of movements you really can't fudge with an existing power set. I don't think we need any more weapon sets right now, but down the road after they add a dozen or so more actual super powers to the game, I wouldn't mind a tonfa set.

BaB's (iirc) was the one that was really fond of saying the reasoning behind not giving DB options like escrima was in fact the immersion factor of damage type.
Since he's been gone a while, that viewpoint may have altered.

I can do worse than post it in Suggestions, I guess.

And if I remember correctly, Positron said in a Ustream that making weapon that dont fit the powerset is simple but dont expect damage type to change because damage type is part of the powerset balancing.

There are usually two sides to every argument but no end.
Everything placed above this line is always IMHO, YMMV and quite certainly not to be taken too seriously....
well, I think The Style of the animations would be more critical to a power set than the damage type. so I Say Do sticks for Dual blades

My character Escrimadora says "dual blades". And since escrima is designed for blades as well as sticks there is no reason it shouldn't be a choice of weapons.
Don't count your weasels before they pop dink!
As someone that trained in Eskrima for 3 years I would have no problems with them incorporating stick models into dual blades. In fact I would love it if they did so.
Pretty much all of the DB animations would work fine with sticks and if anyone wants to cry, "Realism! Realism!" (not that anyone on this thread has said that) then they should be reminded that we are talking 'comic book martial arts' not real martial arts.
And seriously, BaB actually said that not having the appropriate damage type per weapon set killed immersion???? Sheeeesh! I've been playing this game for like six or seven years now and until it was just mentioned above I had totally forgotten that there even WERE different types of damage!
Hey, good to see you posting PC! (We're in the same SG, you see...) I'm glad to hear that Dual Blades would support that (so long as the sounds got a little altered). I think I might throw David Nakayama a PM expressing my desire to see this added.
Martial arts weapons, now that I think on it seem a little few and far between. Nunchuks, three-pole fighting sticks come to mind. Or are there? Maybe someone could illuminate me to the state of martial arts weapons in-game across powersets?

Types of Swords
My Portfolio
I think a PM to Noble Savage is justified, even if it's not necessarily answered, then. Escrima sticks aren't massively detailed, presumably wouldn't take a huge amount of work, and could be done pretty quickly. Even base model sticks to sticks with ridges and details I would presume would be quicker and easier to do than a sword such as Imperial Dynasty or a Titan Weapon.
Either way, I'm going to have a go at getting this noticed.

Also, DB has sparkly sparks (unless I'm confusing them with Katana)...
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

I was wondering about this just this evening after a talk with SGmates on our private forums got to the subject of characters' fighting styles. I do enjoy those kind of conversations, and I had to admit to myself my one true preferred style.
That being the art of escrima/kail stick fighting, most notably favored by Nightwing of DC Comics fame. I can't explain it beyond my favoring Nightwing as one of my all-time favorite characters which I've made a hybrid tribute to.
The question becomes though; is that style unique enough to be considered as its own powerset, or would it (with the right weapon models) fall into the Dual Blades or other weapon-based powerset?
