SSA 6 and new powerset (spoilers, idea, rambles)
Well considering we now have a ritual that can bring back the Dead (that valentines arc is really coming back to bite them in the backside isn't it?).
Oh and the 'wanted to die' thing totally ain't going to work this time, Sister Psyche did not want to die, she died because it was the only way but it wasn't the same thing as Statesman. So yeah, no pulling the 'oh he was happy in death' crap again is going to work, Sister Psyche clearly wants to come back and be with her beloved husband not dead as a doornail. So Devs...watcha gonna do about that rather large plot hole? |
There are some serious competency issues to be had with this entire arc, and the latest fiasco takes the cake. It's also too much of a coincidence that our heroes would inevitably choose the one method out of all the available options for this procedure that could have been potentially hijacked given that the Circle of Thorns were previously involved in an earlier part of this arc. Furthermore, was this the ONLY site in the entire city where this ritual could have been performed, or were they all hijacked? What would have happened if one of the Circle's mages had used this ritual prior to Sister Psyche's attempt? Where was Numina and Infernal, or the Midnighter's Club - you know, people with real experience in magical affairs? WHO DOES NUMBER TWO WORK FOR?!?! >.<
Furthermore - HOW was fixing Psyche such an urgent matter? Could she not have toiled for a while until Darren was successfully apprehended so the chance of him interfering with a cure be nullified entirely? The condition seemed more of a fairly tasking inconvenience more than an immediate threat.
I'm sorry, but this whole arc is simply strewn with bad writing. I prefer not to bash the developers because they truly strive to please us, but it felt like they so desperately wanted to shift gears that they didn't take the time to comprehend how competency might come into play. This wasn't about characters being kidnapped in the face of overwhelming odds and brutally slain behind the scenes like the aforementioned death of the former Ms. Liberty - these were "I tricked you all" moments where the Heroes were in a position of control and the situations only work only because the Heroes didn't use common sense while they were still in control of the situation.

70 Heroes, 9 Drop Ships, 7 Minutes. The Aliens never knew what hit them.
Now soloing: GM-Class enemy Adamaster, with a Tanker!
Yeah, the 3D renders of her out of game looked pretty decent. But her in-game model was just...ugh. No ta.
|
But yeah. I don't know if I expect her to get better, but I sure hope they are going somewhere with this, other than cheap shock value.

My bet is that when Wade took her powers, he also got her mind. That even may be the key to defeating him. Getting some help from the 'inside'.
She can mind-ride others. With a suitable host, she doesn't need her old body; look at Mother Mayhem. It's what happened to her. Now her return would ideally be... less insane if she is to return to being a hero... maybe taking over a brain dead body, being put into a mechanical one that can house her consciousness, or take one from a villain... or even becoming a fully psychic entity without a need for a body. This is comic-book fantasy after all. I just wonder whichever one it is, how Manticore will handle it... |
Furthermore, her conciseness is in Wade's own mind. He may have her and Statesman's powers; however, using them with the knowledge and experience like the former owners is a very different issue. This is his Achilles Heal in my opinion and his downfall. Sister Psyche will battle him in his mind while we battle his physical being. All I have to say is, Wade is screwed. He is out of his league. Oh, he might be able to cause a lot of damage, kill people too. In the end, his desires for god-hood will go up in smoke, literally.
Manticore...I believe he is a broken man. Forced to kill the one person whom he truly loved beyond all reason will do that. Sure, Psyche told him he had no other option. Stunning her would not work. She was beyond that kind of action based on what she was saying. I believe his effectiveness as a hero and member of the Phalanx is over. For good? Dont know; however, for now? Yes. He is untrustworthy to act responsibly or use any kind of "good" judgment. Yeah I know when did he ever. If Positron is any type of leader, he will not allow Manticore join in any operation dealing with Wade, even if it means putting him down and behind bars.

It is far easier to sit by and complain than it is to join in and do something about it. Just saying.

Sylph, you, and Techbot Alpha need to go ask the developers to allow you on the team as freelance writers and contribute your writing abilities instead of sitting on the sidelines and complaining and bashing the developers. If you have any published material, submit that as proof you have the credentials to write. I am sure they will consider your published work if it is of any quality.

Who says they (Paragon Studios) are hiring any more writers even if the quality of their work is pulitzer prize worthy?

I already gave them the best I could do with the tools they gave us in the AE, but they don't seem to want it.

Believe you me, I know a number of fans and forum members who joined the ranks of freelance writers to help develop and write. Even those who were critical of the work put out. Therefore, it does happen and could happen here. You never know which developer is watching, reading looking for some person(s) that might be a good addition to the stable.

Penny's powers were insanely cool, and her outfit was pretty darn good too. But can we get some love for Vanessa deVore's top?!? That thing was awesome, with the lace-up centerpiece and the fringe on the bottom! I want THAT!

Is Vanessa using a different top than she was previously?
Also, how about them Psychic claws. Any chance we can see that added to claw options for Claws and Arachnos VEATS?

Has anybody done a video of P.Yin fighting?
Haven't replayed it yet, but maybe her claws are nothing more than Vanguard claws with some sort of glowy bubbles added.
My personal opinion is that the very loud, glowing ball of yellow fluffy death and healing is the Clockwork King's doing.
As Penny's biography suggests, no one is entirely sure who trained her in the use of her powers. That kind of writing schtick tends to make my brain assume that it was the Clockwork King who helped train her vast powers.
Now the SSAs themselves.. I did try to respond in another thread when I asked the OP if they thought they could do better but was overcome by that weird forum maintenance/logout bug. After Who Will Die, Part 6, I'm starting to worry that we'll be getting more of the same for SSA2, which is rumoured to feature Pandora's Box. And by more of the same, I mean more shock tactics used to tell a story.
I'm fond of a bit of shock to help move a story along, and I'm also more fond of a less-than-happy ending for all parties concerned (otherwise things tend to become like watching Inspector Gadget, the cartoon series - you know he'll win and in a formulaic way, so why bother watching?), but a bit of balance is required to stop every major NPC from contracting Jean Grey-itis.
I like Penny Yin and I like the notion of moving things on in time. It's something that a portion of the forum-posting players always asked for and moaned about, quite rightly - lack of story progression. Now we're getting it, I hope to see rewrites of the Freedom Phalanx TFs from Synapse to Numina, updating of NPC biogs, their costumes, and an emergence of some new enemies to fight as a result.
And whilst I like Sister Psyche, I think she could do with taking a more 'training' approach to the game, especially in light of her instability. Aurora or Penelope Yin could become the TF contact, for example, whilst Sister P (possibly in a new body) becomes the trainer for Indy Port. Or who knows, perhaps another zone?
