GenCon Game Fair Meet and Greet: (August 16th to August 19th)

Okay.

I apologize for the huge delay on this guys. In the last couple years, I've had people asking for a less formal "sit down and eat" type event and have been trying to find someplace that can really accommodate that.

I thought we'd be able to do something like that with Weber Grill last year and while the wait out in the foyer was kinda cool like that. The sit down and eat portion (on top of taking almost 2 hours to get us in) wasn't really conducive to a group of people. That and the foyer wait kinda sucked because...well...we were stuffed off in a back corner.

Places like The Ram have party rooms. But booking that's a beach and a jetty and still isn't really conducive to milling around talking.

Nor was The Spaghetti Factory.

As for bars in the area. My knowledge of that area is relatively limited. I'm up just outside of Chicago and don't go down to Indy much beyond cons. Also, I'm a teetotaller and my experience with bars, post military, is exactly zero.

Accessibility is also somewhat an issue. I'm on my feet all day. I REALLY don't want to have to walk 6-10 blocks to get someplace.

So, in the interests of keeping this kinda light. We're going to be doing Champions Sports Bar over in the lobby of the Marriott. Right across the street from the convention center itself.

Food there is "so so". But it has been pointed out that food is a secondary reason why we're there. As a place where we can socialize, it's about as open as anyplace we can get.

So:

Date: Saturday, August 18th
Time: 7PM-Whenever
Location: Champions Sports Bar

Again. Sorry about the length of time in between posts on this.
Hopefully this won't put too many people out.

That's probably the best bet, since it's near impossible to get into a restaurant on Saturday night during Gencon.

Cool! That's a great central location. Ironically this is the one year we didn't get into Downtown Marriott. O.o I probably won't be able to make it until after 8pm (doing the ShadowRun Scramble).

But still I fear and still I dare not laugh at the madman!

I'll be attending, but have the last in a three-series arc of Living Forgotten Realms going from 7-11 on Saturday night.

If there's a pre-party or after-party, I'd be glad to visit.

I'll probably be there early (just to make sure we get the spot as planned).

If you wanna stop by, that's cool.

Also, if you want to stop by the Catalyst Game Labs booth, that works too.

We're at Booth 1703.

Follow the link to the Exhibit Hall PDF.
There are three entrances to the exhibit hall. We're just inside the right-hand most one.
I'll usually be there early mornings, though, knowing me, I'll be there more or less all day.

Pro: Nicely located so it's easy to find, and won't close early for those who can only be there after 11h. (*)

Con: From memory, it's not the biggest place in town and (because it's so nicely located) it's HEAVILY frequented by GenCon goers. It might be a tight fit...

Naaah, I had lunch there last year and it's standard "sports bar cuisine", I've had worse.

Hyper was able to get us a restaurant the past few years, but I agree with him that it was not the best setting for mingling: you're sitting down at a table and mostly only speak with the people to your left and to your right...

Shouldn't be a problem, the past 2 years they had to pry us out of the restaurant so they could close. Since this year it's in a bar that generally doesn't close before 12:00 AM, you should be fine.

(*) Happened to me 3 years ago at the Spaghetti Factory: by the time I got there, the place was closed and boarded up...

That's okay Bonehead. Hopefully they won't have the Shadowrun guys exiled out like they did last year. Their location was in very nice surroundings, but it was WAY the hell out of the way.

I will be at GenCon on vacation, but will be stopping by the M&G with a shwag bag, the contents of which I am not at liberty to discuss.

Looking forward to it!

My husband just informed me that this year, his schedule will allow him to come to the M&G. So +1 person.

Clockwork 01 should be easy to find. He'll be the one wearing orange....

@Hyperstrike: Cool. I just never expected to be able to play an RPG and get cardio in at the same time.

Our sg has congregated at GenCon for a while now, so we'll have around 12 people in the area. I imagine we'll have about 8 people or show showing for the M&G - we missed the last one due to scheduling conflict. See you all there

SCHWEET! One less thing I need to lug to a con!
As much as I love going to cons, sometimes being the only guy from the company in the Midwest (see "Default Logistics Schmuck") can be a pain (in multiple locations).

Just wanted to say that I appreciate the irony of a City of Heroes M&G at a resteraunt called Champions.

All the more if you actually play on Champion.. Or, even worse.. Chose Champion as your first server because you were embroiled in a Champions PnP game at the time!

Cool - me and my non-CoH-playing friend will be looking to grab dinner between 5:30-7:00; I'll see if I can steer him away from Hooters just this once.

It looks doable for me this time; as far as I know I'm home (20 miles north of Indy) at the time and there's not a lot going on. Unless something comes up I'll plan on being there.

Getting into anyplace near the convention center may be a bit of a challenge; lots of places will have long waits to get in. Are you planning on reserving an area Hyper? Or are we going to do a bum rush on the joint?

Yep, I'll be there.

Yeah. Basically I'm going to be hitting up Champions when I get in on Tuesday. Harranguing them on Wednesday. Pestering them on Thursday. Bothering them on Friday. And bugging the living crap out of them on Saturday until our meetup.

Then I'll leave them nice tip.

I was sort of sitting on the fence on this one since I'd need to rearrange things at work to be able to make it. But if Detra's going to be there too...

Add one more to the guest list. I'm looking forward to meeting all of you.
