I mean I understand that it's convenient and inexpensive for Paragon Studios to hold this in their backyard, and when it was just a glorified meet and greet, I didn't have an issue with that. But now it's a "Players Summit" where players are giving real input on the future of the game, and it's being limited to those who can drive to, or afford to fly to it. That's not right.

If you held one in the fall in CA and one in the spring on the east coast, the midwest, the south, or even in Europe, fine because then you'd be including more than just the same people all the time, but now it sounds like you won't even be coming to the east coast this spring. Which means that if you come to NYCC this fall, CA will have had three player summits to our one meet and greet in a year and a half.
Its about a 4 1/2 hour drive for me. This time we have more notice to be able to plan ahead.

NOW just because they had it there one time does not mean that they will have it there again.

The first 2 Hero Cons were held in two different locations. There does seem to be a pattern of us not getting invited back to previous event locations.
So it's kind of hard to say if this will be the same hotel facility used again.
However, like I said in that thread, when I called about reservations, they already had info in their system for the event, and that the discount rate was available. If they and PS change their minds, that's beyond my control.

But hey, it's a nice hotel, regardless!

Are you SERIOUS?! Who in their right mind would not JUMP (super or no) at the chance to go to Europe on the company dime??!

Instead, they are going down the block, probably won't get mileage comp., or time and a half for working evenings and all weekend because they're on salaried, though possibly parking comp., if they remember to file the paperwork. This is because employees never get to pick where they get to go, the corporate headquarters do, and they are going to aim for the least expensive place they can get away with, and still avoid looking cheap.

This is America, big guy! We don't do benefits like you fancy-schmancy Europeans living in the lap of luxury with your... your month-long paid vacations and...and chunnels to drive to them, and places anyone might want to see within an 8 hour drive! Nossir! We are made of sterner stuff! Mostly cholesterol, I think, but that's a different conversation.

Me, I could make it to Cleveland, but only if I claim my grandmother died so I could get the time off work.

Would love, love, LOVE to go to this ... but cannot. I am poor. And me and my partner are trying to get to Disney World this fall, before the world "ends." But hold one of these NEXT April, and I'll be there! Been dying to go to one of these.
Plus I want to be able to have input into a costume set ... cue evil laughter ...

I don't remember where or when I heard/saw it, but I believe it's going to be held at the same hotel.

Whatever they do, I really hope for a more even distribution of space for the panels. I think Zwillinger indicated that this would be the case. Yay! Not being able to get into the panel I wanted because it would violate fire codes was infuriating, disappointing, and bewildering all at the same time! I'm glad to see that they are taking that bit of feedback. Bewildered that they'd need that feedback in the first place... but *shrug* Shigata ga nai!

And BlueBattler: I would say no, the hotel isn't close enough to tourist sightseeing to forego a car. California really isn't set up that way. There is public transportation, and I believe it's even pretty good public transportation, but most everything was built assuming you have a car. Well... except for the availability of parking...

How patient are you?

There is public transit available from Palo Alto into various other, more touristy cities. If you wanted to go to Pier 39 in San Francisco, you're looking at a bus, a train, two cable cars, and two hours. The Tech Museum in San Jose? Two buses, a train, and 75 minutes.

There are certainly things to see near Palo Alto (no matter what sorts of derisive things I may say about the area, having undergone the horrifically boring experience of growing up there; spoiler alert: when you're a teenager, basically everything is boring), like Stanford University (Cantor Center for the Arts, cactus garden, Rodin sculpture garden, etc.) or the downtown area. But it's not a tourist hotbed in the same way San Francisco is.

If you'd really like the full on tourist experience, I'd honestly suggest getting a car for at least a day. Once you are in San Francisco, transit around is fairly trivial (especially if you have a smartphone, as Google Maps has a good understanding of public transit), but getting there from Palo Alto is the trick.

This makes me a very unhappy camper.

I'd thought the participation this last 2 years of CoH Players at PaxEast was strong enough to easily warrant another PS attendance this year.

So much for that.

I haven't heard anything about who the Karaoke DJ will be this time, but if it's the same one they had last time I think you likely won't need to bring your own.

She had it all on digital equipment and had a really nice collection of songs as well. I was extremely surprised when I asked what Johnny Cash songs she had and she pulled it up on screen and had to scroll to get to the rest of the songs. There were some rather obscure Cash songs in the list, so I know it wasn't just a Best Of type list. From what I saw of other artists listed she had a wide ranging collection.

I'm hoping Zwinkeldipsydoo will let us know who will be doing the Karaoke DJ services so I can contact them about some specific questions I have. It would also allow you to find out if they have the songs you are looking for and if they'll let you bring your own (if they are compatible with their system).

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

I'm going to be taking Acen off this year.
I've been going since inception, and assisting in varying capacities for most of the last 10 years, and I'm a bit burnt.

My buddies running the BattleTech pods should be there again this year. The last two years have been pretty good to them.

Clicking on the linked image above will take you off the City of Heroes site. However, the guides will be linked back here.

If anyone from the L.A. Area is driving there, and doesn't mind a road companion, send me a tell please.
Willing to split the costs for driving there and back.

Plus a "putting up with Nephila for several hours in a car." bonus :P
Since nobody on my server is driving it seems, i'll just add my Q here.

Haven't been able to check the forums/announcements for a bit...but

Has anyone said which hotel?

Or where?

I have the time reserved, but need to make "the reservations".

Sometimes, I impress my boss. Sometimes, I impress myself. The rest of the time, I scare people. I can live with that.

Yes, Janlee. They announced it last Thursday. Here is a link to the Discussion thread that has all the details. That's the current discussion thread instead of this one.

Check the first post for the hotel phone number. When you call be sure to tell them that the group is the City of Heroes Player Summit. That will get you the group rate. The Garden Room (1 Bed) is $99/night and the Deluxe Room (either 1 Bed or 2 Beds version) is $109/night.
