"Take Back the City" patrol missions...

Each zone of the city is divided into sections. I think it'd be neat if there was a police officer contact in each of these sections that you could click on and start a "Take Back the City/Take Back Neighbourhood X" mission. This would essentially be a street sweeping mission to defeat x number of enemies in that section, the completion of which would phase that neighbourhood/section into a crime free zone controlled by the PPD.

There could be badges for cleaning up an entire zone in this fashion, and it would give one a sense of making headway in the war against crime.

That actually sounds pretty cool.

I like the idea, although that might cut into some of the missions where you're asked to "Take down 30 bad guys" and it's zone-specific. The Hollows have a few missions like that.

I can see the petition now...

"My mission tells me to clear out 30 Tsoo, but everywhere I go I'm being told the zones where the Tsoo are supposed to be that some other hero has already cleared them out. How can I finish my mission for Serge if all of the Tsoo are already cleared out?"

That's why he mentioned phasing. The neighbourhood would only be cleared for him.

'I don't like the look of it at all,' said the King: 'however, it may kiss my hand if it likes.'
'I'd rather not,' the Cat remarked.
'Don't be impertinent,' said the King, 'and don't look at me like that!' He got behind Alice as he spoke.
'A cat may look at a king,' said Alice.

it would be auto completed by the other hero ... FTW. signed.

option 2: restrict the number of times you can do this to once a month, and it only lasts one day. the hero that does it has a location that he takes in the city (probably near the trainer) and missions where you're suppose to find out info from "tsoo" you go talk to him as a contact and he'll tell you what you need to know.
and for the "curing wand" mission for cimeroa. They could just make a location of hospital mission that you go to.

Use it in Boomtown. It'll make the place relevant again.

August 31, 2012. A Day that will Live in Infamy. Or Information. Possibly Influence. Well, Inf, anyway. Thank you, Paragon Studios, for what you did, and the enjoyment and camaraderie you brought.

I think in that case, 30+ Tsoo could be added to the zone, similar to how a small group already shows up to attack you when you first accept the mission. Or change those missions to an instance where the player has to talk to Serge to enter.

Overall, I think this is a great idea. The one thing that always bothered me about City of Heroes was that no matter how hard I try there will always be villains littering the streets. It's bothersome that there seems to be more villains in any given zone than normal citizens. I can accept this in a hazard zone like The Hollows or Boomtown, but there's no reason for that group of Council to continue loitering across the street from the university in Steel Canyon after I've "arrested" them for the hundredth time.

Sounds like part of the idea I had a while back as part of 'Dynamic Content" (tm). Something of a persistent world where player actions determine how the zone behaves using the same tech used in RV.

Actually, limiting this idea to the Hazard Zones (The Hollows, Perez Park, Dark Astoria, Terra Volta, Eden) could make for some rather interesting storylines in those areas.

Now imagine taking this "clearing" idea and applying it to The Shadow Shard.

It's the end. But the moment has been prepared for ...

I am signed to this, although the devs have stated that a whole zone needs to be reworked to use the phasing tech (a la new Atlas Park/Mercy). I'd love for some enemy spawns to be replaced with something different. It might make street-sweeping afterwards harder but most things are instance-based anyway.

Though the mission itself can't simply be 'defeat x units in zone' because that sounds too much like a hunt mission that we've all seen before. I think for it to work there has to be some escalation into a climax. Maybe an EB who is the 'boss of the neighbourhood' shows up to stop you from taking down their subordinates after you fight through a bunch and THEN after beating them, the remaining enemy group become untouchable and run to the nearest exit door. Next time you talk to your 'take back the city' contact and return to the zone, the spawns are populated with things like civilians talking to each other or maybe more joyful activities like musical hobos or something.

Another thing could be that if you have an active mission that's hunt based, the 'cleared' flag for that neighborhood/zone would be temporarily suppressed, allowing missions to be completable even after you saved it from the enemy group. I'd definitely think TF/SFs would be included too for flag suppression. Perhaps Null the Gull may be granted another reality-bending power to turn rescued areas back to their original state, if you just don't want to deal with the annoyance of not being able to complete some hunts because you already saved it for yourself.

The minor detail that makes all the difference is that whatever the enemy groups are replaced with are numerous and interesting enough that it's not merely copy and paste. Things like the Praetorians talking to one another or playing ball might work in the appropriate areas. I'd even say maybe enemies should still spawn every once in a while, however far more rarely as they do now to show that you haven't wiped them out of existence, just took their dominance off the streets.

I'd be impressed if after clearing all the zones you'd be rewarded with an accomplishment badge 'Saved the Day', with the description text "The day is saved thanks to <character name>! You have cleared villainy from every street of every zone" Then when you run and fly around Paragon City you'd see the city how it should look like normally, peaceful until evil shows it's face once more. Come to think of it, wouldn't that mean you completed the game too?! O_O...epic.

How about the enemies don't spawn with red enemy markers, they are now yellow pasive ones. Also, they aren't taking purses, stealing cars, etc; they're just talking to eachother, but as you pass you hear them say things like "so what day we going to rob the bank", or "I got you the superdine you asked for" and things of that nature. To justify beating them up if you need/want to.

I still think it should be a timed activity as well. Where one hero, team, league can clear out the area/zone/city of crime and it last one full day. and one character can only do it once a month per area/zone/city. Say, twigman clears out an area of AP one day, he could still clear out another area the next day. He could also form a league and have the whole group wipe out a zone in minutes, then move on to the next zone. The month timer and the one day cooldown, is so everyone has an opportunity to get clear the area/zone/city badges.

Please, no more added to Null ... I wish they would fix the movement problem the right way and leave null the options to not accept buffs. I would use it to not accept inertial reduction. It's no fun being suprised with that.

I was thinking the sections outlined in red on the maps would only be temporarily reclaimed.

I like the idea of reclaimed areas still having some enemies that are non-aggressive until attacked, though.

I like that idea for the Shadow Shard if only because I can fly around shouting things like "I HAVE LIBERATED THIS FLOATING ROCK. NONE MAY LAND HERE BUT ME."
