I've become quite fond of the attuned enhancers...will probably have to buy a few this round, but not so many, if only because it being Christmastime, and all, budget's a little bit tight.

Hopefully these special sales will keep coming, though, especially now that I know I don't have to buy the whole sets. I do admit I wish I'd known that a month ago, so I wouldn't have all these useless Basilisk's Gaze procs in my inventory now.

Hang on a tick, does this apply to just the sale prices for these items, or is Paragon Studios really removing [i]all[i] Rare IOs from the market next week?

To my knowledge, all the Rares added so far have been limited time offers. The ones "normally" on the market are the uncommon sets, no?

For now, we only plan on releasing Rare IOs on a limited time basis (the general schedule is once a month with a one week duration).

The next sets of Rare IOs will be released in January. I've already penciled in a couple of sets, and will be releasing them onto the Beta server for testing later this month.

Uncommon sets will always be on the market.

Anyone else find it odd that these sets are selling for more than LotG and KC? I guess it's more of their price experimentation, but it just seems an odd direction. (and still no drop in the prices of the uncommons to make them somewhat desirable)

Many thanks for the clarification, GF.

The Black Friday promotion was :
  • 50% off all Rare IOs
  • All Rare Sets for 400 points.

The normal Rare IO Sale price promotions :
  • 50% off all Rare IOs
  • All Rare Sets for 50% off

...and 50% off of what you may ask?

All IO Set bundles follow this pricing rule:
  • Total all IOs in the set.
  • Apply 20% discount.
The Rare IO sets are 50% off that 20% Off price (so savings are greater than just 50% off).

With the Rare IO sale this week:
  • Numina's was offered at the Black Friday price since we had to pull it last minute due to a bug.
  • Obliteration and Eradication Sets were priced at the 50% off price in accordance to the normal Rare IO sale promotion pricing.
I hope that makes sense.

Sorry, but no, it really doesn't.

These aren't sale prices. I know this because they have never been offered at any other price. Those other numbers you've tagged on there are nothing but meaningless advertizing.

The price of a LotG set was 400 points.
The price of an obliteration set is 428 points.

Full stop. Those are the only prices we have ever been able to buy those products at. Anything else is an illusion to create a desired effect.

Someone there decided at what price these particular good would be offered and their choice is still a puzzling one.

Presumably, they have some sort of equation for calculating the prices of enhancements, relative to their rarity in the game. The same problem applies for the Uncommons that are in the store normally. So for the limited time rares, they apply that equation, then cut the total in half.

Yes, it's sort of a goofy approach, but I can at least see where the idea comes from.

I suppose they could simply share that equation, but I suspect they don't want to because it would give too close of in-game market<->real money value conversion idea.

Why is this? You guys making too much money on them? I mean, ****. If I could just up and drop a few bucks to kit out my characters, you'd get a lot more money out of me. Hell, just sell literally every non-purple/non-PvP IO on the market. I'd buy 'em, and I am not the only one.

edit: Go ahead and sell PvP/purples too if you like, I don't use 'em too much but if I could get them for a decent price I'd probably be willing to do so.

edit 2: the editening: It's kind of disingenuous to call something a sale price when you have only ever sold it at the sale price. It'd be different if these things were offered for sale all the time and received a discount now and then, but as it is, you sell them at the one price then pull them.

A couple of questions:

The snowbeast, vanity pet or the functional one ?

Do attuned set IOs and the normal level based ones combine for set bonuses, ie can I put 2 attuned eradications in a power and the other 4 normal ones and get the set bonus for 6 ?

Vanity.

Yes. Mixing regular and attuned IO in a Set is OK.

I don't suppose you've ever heard of retailers introducing a new product at a introductory sales price then? Because it happens all the time in retail. And it's called.... a sale.

The mix/match thing is stupidly useful. In oblit, you would want to buy the oblit quad at 32-50 (anywhere is good) and +5 boost it. However, the damage and the chance for damage are pretty meaningless. You wouldn't boost them, and they add so much anyway (one cant be boosted and doesn't matter what level, the other is already a huge +dam) as is, that buying them with points is really the only way to go. Chance for is 2 amerits. Damage is 1 amerit. Or, you can just buy a whole set and some extra chancefors and go from there. But unless its a useless power you are slotting, I would definitely not buy the quad. Mixing and matching is by far the best way to go.

Keep in mind however, that +5 boosting a level 50 IO makes for HUGE differences in total value.

And then it returns to the higher price. That didn't happen here.

Walmart must love you guys when they up the prices by 25% just before their 20% off sales.

I could make up random equations as well. That doesn't make the numbers spit out by those equations into something meaningful.

(X+2/max level/.367)*Z where Z is the number of attributes enhanced by the enhancement

There. Wheee. I made up an equation too. And mine has about as much to do with the actual price of the things as whatever equation they are using does.

The price is what it sells for. Anything else is there to manipulate gullible people.

17501. For the purpose of this article the worth or value of any
thing advertised is the prevailing market price, wholesale if the
offer is at wholesale, retail if the offer is at retail, at the time
of publication of such advertisement in the locality wherein the
advertisement is published.
No price shall be advertised as a former price of any advertised
thing, unless the alleged former price was the prevailing market
price as above defined within three months next immediately preceding
the publication of the advertisement or unless the date when the
alleged former price did prevail is clearly, exactly and
conspicuously stated in the advertisement.

Sale Price or Regular Price? To be “on sale” the item must have had a higher former price within the last three months. If an item is always on sale then it’s false advertising.

You guys are in Cali right? Might want to have legal look at your marketing.

This is not relevant. The only thing being sold for money is points, and there isn't any shenanigans going on related to selling points. Using points to trade for ingame items insulates them from this sort of legislation.

Kudos that's a damn fine Perry Mason moment. And a possible loophole.
The argument of course is that points in and of themselves have no value. They are an accounting method used by NCSoft to handle cash transactions.

Sort of like a ticket to an event isn't the item that is sold but the access to the event is the actual item. Like going to the movies.

Also note that was only Cali's law other states may or may not back the points are the item being bought.

But that is a good defense to the claim.

Quick edit to include: The section doesn't state the transaction has to have a cash element only that the items have value. This would then incluse barting system, say trading oranges for cars, or cupcakes for kittens, or paragon points for internet items.

Thanks for this, just one other question: (for non VIPs)

2 principles, you can't use IOs unless you've got tier 7 complete or buy an IO licence.

You can use anything you've bought.

Does this mean you can use attuned IOs bought with points if you're F2P and haven't bought an IO licence ?

Yes, they are probably insulated from any legal ramifications. But that doesn't change the fact that they are engaging in a business practice that the state of California has deemed harmful enough to institute laws against.

The conspiracy theory side of my brain is working overtime now and I'm wondering if the free points for VIPs might exist primarily to break the direct link between points and money in order to avoid laws like this and have very little to do with rewarding VIPs.
