Forums: Are they still not remembering us?

Or is it just me?

I cannot get this thing to remember me. I have to keep typing in my password. I'm not certain if it's my computer or the forums anymore. I've heard both. Checks on my computer reveal nothing, and I've tried to get these forums to remember me on other computers, to no avail.

So, is what I'm experiencing having to do with the computer I'm using, the IE8 or IE9s I'm using, the Uverse/DSL/ATT fiber connections (I've used all three at different locals, all of which I 'own', so to speak), or is it the forums, or is it possibly my user name?

I don't... think there's anything else it could be...

And, honestly, I think it's time for a 'Things about the forums/boards' section so we can air out issues JUST about this place, and get Mods/Devs to see them.

Anyway... thanks in advance. Need to know this before my next question.

This is houtex, aka Mike, signing off the forums. G'night all. - 10/26/2012
Well... perhaps I was premature about that whole 'signing off' thing... - 11-9-2012

You can use the Norton password remember thing, that works for me.

Yes, it is remembering you, sort of, kind of. Zwillinger said due to security reasons, the longest that it will remember you is eight hours. That's total horsepoopy that the web team is feeding him, and he is forced to regurgitate due to it being his job.

HOWEVER, the random logout bug has not been fixed yet, so some of your relogs may be due to that rather than the asinine "security logout" "feature".

I have currently been logged into the forums for 9.5 hours.

Thank you, Champion.

If you visit the forums within an eight hour period, it will refresh the cookie. Unless you mean you just got off of a 9.5 hour away period and are still logged in.

That's what the "remember me" means: "remember me between visits." And it will - according to Zwillinger, for a maximum of eight hours.

I see. Yes, I have had the tab open since 12:30pm. I generally always leave a forums tab open.

Thank you, Champion.

Except it doesn't. If I log in to the forums and then close the browswer it deletes things so that if I then open the browser again I'm not logged in and have to log in again.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Black Pebble is my new hero.

Same problem here. In IE and Chrome. I'd hardly call it a "random" logout bug -- that implies it sometimes doesn't happen.

FUN FACT: That burst of light when you level up is actually the effectiveness escaping from your enhancements all at once.

I can confirm this to be true.

Me too. Using Firefox here if that makes any difference.

Still this is way better than not being able to log in at all. I had to change my password to clear that problem up.

There is always a lot to be thankful for, if you take the time to look. For example, I'm sitting here thinking how nice it is that wrinkles don't hurt. ~Author Unknown

Except that's not the random logout bug that's being talked about, which is apparently (I've been told) a load balancing issue. What happens then is while the browser is still open, it logs you out as you change pages - which is really annoying after you write a post and hit submit, and it logs you out before actually posting it.

I haven't had the random logout in a while, but I have had to log in each and every time I close the browser pretty much ever since they went to the new forum software (I don't remember the last time I didn't, and I hit "Remember Me" each time).

This is exactly what I'm seeing. So... It's broken.

Aggie, I'm sure that's what they're saying... but... there is a second part to this, and that starts in another thread, and it *directly* has to do with security. Namely, having us log in all the time isn't a good idea, if that 8 hour thing is supposed to be true.

And I know you're just repeating what's been said, so that's cool.

Any votes on the forums only thread area?

That's another problem I've been having randomly over the past year or more.
