Your name - IN GOLD!
There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.
The log out issue is definitely a priority for us here at Paragon, and the web team in Seattle is working on it. This goes on a list of things such as getting the character copy tool working and fixing the Hero skin.
I've been meeting with the manager of the web team every week. This issue is not falling by the wayside as we continue to communicate it as a priority. |
Note: Does not appear to work on cats.

Z, I find that fingernails actually deter motivation. If said manager doesn't have good news by next meeting, I suggest you start removing his/her fingernails with a pair of pliers. Trust me, you will see an INSTANT increase in motivation.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

It's those spurious 'delete cookie' instructions from the server that's the problem.
Apologies. I read "maintenance," took it in good faith and assumed in-game maintenance.
I still want the Helper/Help Me! colours removed, however.
Samuel_Tow is the only poster that makes me want to punch him in the head more often when I'm agreeing with him than when I'm disagreeing with him.

You can have my name in gold but do we still get to keep our forum titles? I lost my unique title when the EU and NA forums merged but some people have worked hard to gain those titles and it would be a shame to see them replaced with a generic 'VIP'.
I certainly don't feel like a VIP these days so I'd rather remain as a Legend thanks.

I'm not really sure what mine is currently, but I'd rather have it than "VIP".
EDIT: Ah, Renowned. I'll stick with that thank you very much.

I'm pretty much in the same boat. I didn't use the Gold name before because it would have meant changing my forum title and I really didn't like the thought if being simply "VIP".

I hear you, and I understand what you're saying, but to play devil's advocate; we also tie your forum account to your game account, which is why we want to err on the side of security in this case.

But to play devil's advocate to your devil's advocate...
Is retyping my account password every 8 hours into a browser that could possibly be compromised by malware and re-sending it across the network more or less secure than using a cookie with an ID token to keep me logged in forever?
If somebody steals my session, what's the worst they can do? Troll the forums and get me banned? Copy my characters to the test server?
You guys are right, there's a bit of back and forth there as well. Point is, I made all of these arguments to our Web Security/Web team and a compromise and decision had to be come to.
In my eyes, it's not ideal, personally I'd prefer it so that you had to log in once a week at most, but it's not as extreme as some other MMO Communities impose on their players.

While I understand wanting the cookie bug fixed, the idea of permanent login just boggles my mind.
The cookie has been set to 8 hours of inactivity AFAIK. This is as far out as it will be set.
|
The COH forums are not Fort Knox. They're not my bank account. They're not even Twitter or Facebook. Why can't the cookies be set to expire every 30 days like a more normal website?
As it is, every single time I visit the COH forums I think "Oh crap, not this again. When are the gonna fix this !@#$% bug?!?" That's probably not the takeaway your marketing group wants for VIPs to have while visiting the web site.

^ It's even worse if you access from multiple locations like me. I have my home PC, my work PC, my many smartphones and several tablet PC's. I have to relogin every time on each one, and some of them I have to login 3 - 6 times in a row before it will actually stick... Until I post and it unsticks again...
It's garbage... My 11 year old could setup forums better, and that's no exaggeration.

Do you REALLY want to accidentally grant some scumbag unfettered access to your account for 30 days? Note, the cookie would still work for them even if you changed your account password can.
Now, if I close the browser and open it back up, I'm logged out and Remember Me doesn't Remember Me. Luckily, I have some addons that remember form data. It's rather quick to get logged in.
