Rad Corrupter Snipe/snipes in general

So for a Rad/Rad corrupter, is it worth taking the snipe? It seems useful for range and I dunno what else I am gonna take to replace it, plus I picked up the entire set of orange snipes by accident for level 50 :P

Rad can form a decent single target chain, but it definitely lack single target punch with only Cosmic Burst being a single target heavy hitter. Cosmic Burst is 40 feet though, so Rad's snipe is not a bad idea if it fits your playstyle.

I will say Rad's is by far the most fun snipe and thats because of the sound and the three big balls you blast out.

I can't stand snipes myself they are so slow and the rooting is painful. That said if you have a secondary like traps with setup and that is good defending an area then snipes are perfect for drawing mobs to you. It might be great with hurricane too.

You also need to learn the mob ai somewhat. If you are trying to pick off just outliers of large spawn or trying to pull the whole group. To pull the group target Lt's and bosses, and to pick them off get close enough that the spawn starts walking around and then target the mobs on the edges as they walk away from the center of group. In general to make the spawn recognize you are there and start moving gets you close enough to use other blasts making the snipe redundant and somewhat useless in my opinion.

I've never come up with a rad concept that I could stick with, but it's the only set I'd take the snipe on (in general I just don't like snipes functionally). You get to shoot photon torpedoes, nuff said.

I took Moonbeam on my Dark/Cold, and it's 3-slotted with Centrioles. She can shoot farther than the draw range at 200% detail, or due to stacked tohit debuffing can fire it off in the middle of a crowd. Of course she'll probably lose it when I do a respec because it's terrible DPA but it was fun as a lowbie and gave a solid chunk of damage all at once that Dark otherwise lacks.

This is the only reason I have it on my Rad Blast thermal.

Heh. I like my concept...well...until I met Blast Furnace.

So, here is the big question. I do not like my nuke at all. Targeted AoE. Fine. I like that. Damage. I'm outdamaging it now with my single targets and stuff because it is underslotted. If I need a big AoE, I got my judgements. Wiping out all my endurance meaning I have to recast all my buff. Not a big fan of.

For an electrical blast corrupter, would you say snipes over nukes? Snipes I might at least get some use out of.

Take it for concept if you really want to, just keep

Get Ageless Destiny, you will love your nuke.

I have taken the snipe on rad/rad defenders for 2 reasons;

1. Great set bonuses in Sting of the Manticore, IF you can spare the slots for what isn't a great addition to an attack chain,

2. Pulling AVs in certain TFs (Patrons in STF, Honoree in LGTF, etc.), in which case you can just leave it at its token slot. Not as frequently needed now with Incarnate powers, mind you.

OK, admittedly, the animation/sound effect is kinda cool, 2.5 reasons. . .

I am going to get moonbeam on my dark/dark

I could really use that extra damage at the start of the fight. If I were IO'd with recharge I probably wouldn't care. But leveling I run out of single target damage while an lt or boss is still alive. I won't use the snipe every fight, but it will trivialize some fights that are a bit risky right now.

I took my snipe on my AR/Traps corruptor because

a) I can reliably shoot it in the middle of a fight (dispersion bubble's def plus the -ToHit of my drones plus the fear of Ignite makes me pretty damn safe)

b) AR lacks both an Aim-type power and a hard-hitting single target attack, so I have to make do and

c) It's actually useful to weaken tough guys to the point where Scourge starts happening.

This. Especially for sets with weaker single target damage or that don’t have a complete single target attack chain such as electric blast.

*liberally adds recharge/secondary abilities to create a ST chain* No Snipe needed!

It's all a playstyle thing really. With Rad/ it is not hard at all to get a single target attack chain with some + recharge... but sets that lack that tier 3 blast can be tougher. Most sniped are also available much earlier than one generally can start getting much + recharge from sets. And yes there are always other buttons to click... holds, debuffs and such but why do I want to debuff or hold a mob I can arrest with one or two more shots.
I generally have the "I can get off 2-3 normal attacks in the time it takes a snipe to do it's damage" point of view. But doing that, you get aggro from the first shot you fire. Using a snipe at the begining of a fight lets you do a nice chunk of damage before the mob agrros on you. It can also get a tougher Mobs heath down to the point that it will die when the minions do in an AOE attack chain that follows the snipe.
I don't use snipes on most builds and snipes are surely not needed, but they can be functional.

For Corruptors, Rad has a single target Chain in Neutrino Bolt + LAZ0RBEEMZ really. The very small down time between them can be useful for popping a heal and what not.

Oh and Procs > Damage IOs in Neutrino.

Whining about everything since 2006.

Ammo switching for Dual Pistols was my idea:

Snipes in general aren't worthwhile since they take an enormous amount of time to animate, are interruptible and don't deliver enough damage given their animation time.

That being said, Radiation Blast for Corruptors/Defenders is an unusual case because the first two nukes are horrible. The merely mediocre performance of Proton Volley makes it a better choice for your rotation than X-Ray Beam or Neutrino Bolt.

X-Ray Beam and Neutrino Bolt are, in fact, so terrible that they lose out to four pool attacks: Electric Fence, Dominate, Boxing and Air Superiority. If you have any of those four abilities, they should take the place of using either of Radiation's first two blasts in your rotation.

The rest of your rotation would be Cosmic Burst and either Irradiate or Proton Volley depending on whether you preferred fighting at range or up close. Note that the Irradiate rotations are higher damage than the Proton Volley ones.

The highest dps rotation using only Radiation Blast nukes would be Irradiate + Cosmic Burst + Proton Volley. However, this rotation is a bit sketchy since you're combining a PBAE and an interruptible attack.

Note that this is not true for the Blaster version of the set and I don't believe there's another blast set in the game where you'd get similar results.

I took the snipes while leveling on my Rad/Therm and my Dark/Pain. The only ability that could help them to stay alive in their secondary was a self heal, so a snipe was useful to enter faster in "scourge zone" and/or quickly neuter a mezzing foe. But otherwise I didn't really like these powers, even though I must admit Proton Volley looks and sounds really cool

At lvl 50, with IO and Incarnate powers I no longer needed these snipes and respec'd out of them.
