Will enhancement converter change the market for rare IO's?
40 million isn't rich. 40 million is in the range of "if I remember to log in and check for people asking for inf, I probably send that much to strangers just because I thought it would be nice to help out poor people in the game". I think I have around 8b total across alts, and that's still not really rich.
|
I know that; I was merely illustrating that it's a matter of perspective. I don't feel the need to be competitive in PvP; I can actually get by with SO's, basic IO's and some occasional specialty IO's. I've been playing for over five years, and my altitis is so bad I don't have any level 50 characters at all yet.

Regarding the other comments, I'll be posting a thread on PvP IO drop rates fairly soon.
Goodbye and thanks for all the fish.
I've moved on to Diablo 3, TopDoc-1304
They already have. I bought up about a hundred purple sleep recipies for about 1million each. now their 50 mill already.
purple Confuse is in the 100s mill now. got like 10 they were still much more than sleep to start with so i didnt want to spend 5 mill lol o well live and learn.
PVP pbaoe is in the 50s for a recipie and i bought about 75 of those for a mill a piece.
PVP Targeted Aoe recipies are 20-25 mill and they were also about 1 mill. got about 20 of these.
So i think a 25x-100x increase in the recipies already is a major effect.
Also there is very little left on the market. Very little.
So there you go... This means that people will not be selling those low end purples and pvp recipies on the market and will instead, keep them to convert to try and to increase their value into something better... The only way this this an be curbed is if coverting is not cheap, then it might balance out... if not this is really going to turn into a nightmare for the players that don't have billions to spend to buy the highend recipies for their toons.
I guess this will be a wait and see type of thing...

On the topic of converters: If you got a couple per month as part of your VIP stipend, these would have a big effect on the market. As is, though... This is a pretty direct $->player-power conversion. Not super happy about that philosophically, although I'd care more if I viewed CoH as a competitive game.

While people are not forced to spend money on these types of games, what it comes down to is, how good the people behind these games are at hiding the fact that you are spending real money behind those points you easliy spend. Example: In this game the German Sheppard, for 500 points which is $5.80 (if my math is right) for a vanity pet that does a few tricks and The Undead Survival Kit, for 400 points which is $5.00 which gives you 30 charges of an item most people delete. it's all about marketing, and sure they should try to make money in order to keep the game going strong no doubt but we also pay subs too. This game does have a f2p aspect to it but, you really don't get anything good unless you upgrade to vip or pay to rent certain elements of the game, which again is spending money... This f2p model is desgined to intise you into upgrading. I just hope it's not headed down that path of becoming like those other f2p games.
It's better to save the Mystery, than surrender to the secret...
Uhhhmm...
Why WOULDN'T they entice people to subscribe? That's the entire POINT of a F2P model.
Get a taste, then, ooh, i want that... OH, i need this... oh dammit i spent 50 bucks i might as well subscribe! THAT is the ENTIRE design philosophy of a F2P model and NCSoft wouldn't have mandated that CoH go in a F2P direction unless they predicted it would increase revenue. So Yes, CoH IS going down that path, otherwise there'd be no point to having gone F2P in the first place.

Oh, and Crimson demands you play this arc-> Twisted Knives (MA Arc #397769)

If converting is cheap, then people will convert those unloved, unwanted, low end enhancements into loveable, desirable, wanted high end enhancements. Cheaply.
This is not a nightmare for poor players. It's a dream come true. You seem to be advocating for the conversion price to be so high that no one does it, so things stay the way they are. The way things are, some enhancements are so rare and so good that the fair market price is more than the inf cap. How could any change be a nightmare for poor players compared to the way things are now?
If the supply of top end enhancements explodes and the price plummets, that's a win for all players, especially poor ones.
Also, if I read Positron correctly, they've drooped the RMT aspect entirely. These converters will only be available in game, by trading in merits. The only people who have a reason to complain are the PVP farmers who might lose their lucrative niche.

I think you've got your conclusion on backwards. Look at your first point: the low end recipes are disappearing from the market. Low end. The ones people didn't buy. The ones that weren't worth much. We'll have fewer of those. This is not a problem.

If you don't have any converters, then you can't access the UI screen for the conversions.

Thanks for the 411 Peter
I played with it on beta a couple of weeks ago. The first thing is you need to get the converters. I got some from a GM who was handing them out. I don't know if they can be bought from vendors now. I don't think that feature has gone up on the test server yet.

I am unable to do decent search (not enough time and my search-fu is weak), would it be possible to provide a link?

My postings to this forum are not to be used as data in any research study without my express written consent.
They are avail on test. In packs of 90.
Was very please with conversion results.
This is going to be great for purples and pvp ios.
That sounds great, I really like the idea of being able to get converters through gameplay. I am also ok with spending real money on them as long as you can also get them through gameplay. I doubt I would ever spend real cash on them but I have no problem if other people do.

If you look at the dev digest, you can easily find Positron's other posts in that thread, answering questions.
[PS. I didn't realize there was a command to open the conversion screen. As far as I know, if you don't have any converters in your inventory, then the button in the UI disappears. I guess the command line works either way.]

How do you get the converters? Couldn't find them in the store or buy them for merits? Or are they part of issue 22?
Converters will be introduced with Issue 22.
The following is from memory and may be off...
1 Hero/Villain Merit + $2.5M = 10 Converters (Fort Trident/Crucible)
1 Emp Merit + $? = 5 Converters (Emp guy in Oro)
3 Astral Merits + ?$ = 2 Converters (Astral lady in Oro)
10 Reward Merits + $250k = 1 Converter (Any Reward Merit Vendor)
