Player Summit Ustream Highlights: Keynote and opening Q and A
Keynote starts, Zwill talks about the Player Focus Group and how they got a lot of good info from there, and wanted to do that, but bigger. Thus the Pummit...

Honestly, I'm not particularly wowed by any of this. The fact that they're incorporating solo Incarnate content into a zone revamp tells me a bunch of things got bumped back in the schedule because they need a stronger Incarnate events menu in order to keep VIPs subscribed (and even lure some back).
I hope they quit focusing on the Incarnate trials after this issue. It feels like there's but a handful of folks now faithfully playing along with Incarnate trials and I think they'd get a lot more mileage if they allowed small, 8-man teams as well as leagues. If anything, they need an Incarnates only zone (no revamp!) that gives folks something memorable and personally epic-climactic to enjoy in terms of being "the ultimate superhero" - at least that's my thought on it. I'll keep an open mind to I22 but it sounds really anti-climactic after all the Dominator/bases hype. Methinks I23 will be much more involving and beneficial to the overall game culture, so I'll hang in there for that.
Oh, yay for the flying carpet but we really need a post-modern, space-age flying saucer disc too (keep it simple, sleek, and starkly aerodynamic). The kids may love the boogie board but the adults want something a little more nuovo and customizeable.
Yes, it would be a good idea...but I can see why they have issues, but I'll be the second MM to have them (after yours!)
Nice meeting you at the Pummit. |
Funny thing is, that the issues they presented, like the misuse of emotes on the minions, such as using swoon or collapse, and then doing pushups on top of them...is already being done, and it's with males as the minions....or with dead mobs (yes, my husband, Joyrock and I actually saw that happening in DA with the BP during our little excursion to Freedom server).
It just irks me that the excuse has been "err on the side of caution" each time it's been brought up, but to do that, just because someone, somewhere, at sometime might do it and then offend someone, would put it to the point that NOTHING could be in that game. Because there is at least SOMETHING that is going to offend SOMEONE.
I mean heck, they already have most of the designs that could be used, such as:
Thugs- Rocket Girls
Mercs- Knives of Artemis style?
Robots- either keep them gender neutral, or the Victorias from Praet
Zombies- um....do they even have a gender anymore?
Ninjas- Use the sliders to make them more feminine
Demons- Girlfriends from Hell, or just keep them the same/different colour?
Two things:
First, I appreciate the time that Von Kreiger puts into these summaries. I would be much less informed if it weren't for him.
Second, I used to be at least a part-time pvper and would like to do so again in this game, but not as it currently exists.
I find that the devs and community reps (like Zwill, not members of the community) frequently shy away from any response about pvp or give a dismissive response. I was interested in hearing what the question and answer involving pvp was. (Thanks Turg for explaining that part).

The least offensive things I've heard in broadcast was trashtalk. I can't really type some of the more offensive stuff.
I'm sure there are cool PvP players out there. They must be playing on some weird server or schedule. |
On a side note...I am very glad they finally told us its going to be darkness control, and also 'when' titan weapons is coming out. Also, I'm curious as to the details of I22 now....Death Incarnate...ominous much? And also, taking from the UStream, I'd love to see the Praetorian stuff just end with States and Tyrant brofisting, even though it'd be utterly anti-climactic.

Samuraiko: "Can we have more videos? I can't make them all for you!"
Black Pebble has been working with the Seattle team on the next videos. The Freedom launch trailer was worked on by an agency, rather than in house. Posi: "There's some... stuff coming with weather. It's probably not what you're thinking, it's a lot more subtle. But it opens doors for new things in the future." |
Aded to the fun. After Samuraiko asked her video question: "Please do some more so I don't have to keep making them all the time." From the peanut Gallery at the back drifts "or hire her."
|
Ironically enough, after the panels, I tried to talk to Ross, but we kept missing each other. I did talk a little bit to Black Pebble (in fact, I have now figured out how I'm going to put him in my next video).
What I found really funny was that as I went up to each redname I knew to say hi, their virtually identical reactions involved a smile, a hug, and the comment, "So when's the next video coming out?"
I'll be posting more on the summit elsewhere, but let me just say - it was an absolute blast. It was wonderful seeing everyone, much information to be had, and there WILL be another summit.
So start saving $$ now. For those of you on a budget, people on the whole were amazingly helpful when it came to carpooling, giving rides to folks, sharing hotel rooms, etc. Take an extra day and visit the Bay Area - it's lovely there.
See you at the next Plummit!

Wow, GREAT news!
Ask the Devs a straight forward question:
Can you make or have you discussed making an AE style designer for PVP. Where we can make maps, balance powers and basically create PLAYER PvP for ourselves?
Then WE the players can create, balance and expand it far faster than the devs ever could. I used to make maps for Halflife and Soldier of Fortune 2 and to be able to make maps, assign power balance and create Capture the Flag, escort, briefcase style play.
You could make buffable/controllable walls, boxes and other objects where defenders\controllers can stop you from entering by shielding a wall, you can control or mez an object so it stops or switches who its shooting at.
You know I have visions of a PvP game completely different from where this has been going. I see the possibilities and would love to help build it. You say that the game isn't balanced for PvP? I tell you - it is being done wrong. You say lol at defenders? What if that defender is behind the wall you are trying to breakdown to get the case/Flag or whatever and is healing it? Shielding it? What if that squishie blaster is wasting your defenses? The idea of PvP being just 2 players squaring off is so very far from what it could be that I am astounded. From day One of the AE I wanted it for PvP. It is the danger room, the way for iron to sharpen iron and it is completely neglected because you don't know where to go.
I am telling you we the players who think outside the box, who have ideas on how to twist gameplay - can make and balance PvP far faster and better than you can imagine. Remember Counterstrike was built by a PLAYER.
TYVM vk!!!! So awesome!
Sorry if I missed it, but any time frame for i22?
Soooo excited!

Added to the fun. After Samuraiko asked her video question: "Please do some more so I don't have to keep making them all the time." From the peanut Gallery at the back drifts "or hire her."

That "or hire her" comment, if I'm not mistaken, was actually Redlynne's, who was just behind me in line for asking questions.

I am most definitely taking full credit for that one!
The best part was watching Samuraiko turn around, *quite* flustered by the prospect, saying, "No! I'm far too busy!"
Thanks, VK!
Just popping in quickly to say to Turg...
I never PvP (I have maybe... twice in this game).
However, when I went to the M&G in Boston, that took place before Going Rogue came out, I chatted with Posi about many things and one thing I lightheartedly suggested was PvP dueling options, to allow heroes and villains to duke it out in the open city zones (completely an opt in/opt out mechanic... with an option to never take part and so on).
It was a very casual conversation, I don't even think anyone else was around for it, and he said that some people just don't ever want to see PvP, so that was a factor they'd have to consider and balance how much you're willing to "upset" other players and all that.
Again, it was a casual chat and it wasn't like I was selling it hard and putting him on the spot about it. We just tossed around thoughts about it back and forth.
Anyway, the main reason I'm mentioning this is because I, too, am not a PvPer, but I share your feelings that it'd be a cool aspect to have in this game and could possibly open me up to partaking in some of it. So, I understand where you're coming from.
I could go on about it more, but it is not really relevant to this thread, so I'll stop, hehe... Maybe in another thread some time!
