Yeah, but that doesn't matter. The point is, the devs have a system in place and will decide to employ it when they think it's a good idea. When one random player thinks it's a good idea, that's when we get to post funny GIF's.

Which Zwill said they aren't planning on running again...

Exactly. Since I21 launched all accounts ever made (except banned accounts) are active and there are no inactive names to free up. The people who think that all the good names are taken are [pancake] out of luck.

Despite all the sarky image meme replies, there is a reason this topic keeps coming up, because people are still finding fault with the current way things are done.

It's not beating a dead horse, it's beating a zombie immortal horse that the Dev's refuse to put down, even though it still causes issues for some of their customers.

1. Yes, it is a dead horse.

2. Unique naming requirements are far from unusual in the MMO industry. WoW, Lotro, DDO, Guild Wars, AoC, and SW:TOR all have unique naming requirements. (I'm sure there are other MMO's that also have it that I haven't played) And most of the ones I listed all limit players to one word names.

So if this was really a problem like a few disgruntled people like to claim all those other games would have changed their policies a long time ago.

Difference being WoW,Lotro,DDO,AoC and Sw:TOR have the advantage of being fantasy/sci-fi with alien language, throw a random bunch of letters together, does it sound Orcish? Elven? All right good to go.

Doesn't work like that for CoH though.

Then you haven't been playing CoH.

There are tens of thousands of characters based aliens, elves, orcs, vampires, demons, faeries, angels, gods, hyper intelligent shades of blue, dwarves, etc.

This games has them all and we aren't restricted to one word names. So yes it actually does work for CoH.

Sure it does. The majority of my characters are human and I tend to select a first name I like and then give them a surname by throwing random syllables together, for example:
Marcus Taldari
Empedocles Mastrik
Dr Alec von Chronite

None of those would appear on the front of a comic book.

And my prediction comes true. Ok, it's slightly out of context since my post was more countering you contention that the random syllable names do not work in CoX rather than insulting you for being unoriginal but I think it's close enough .

As a side note, I have no objection to people who want more traditional names, I just object to the assertion that going with the random syllable type cannot work in CoX. Personally I find that the idea of secret-identity style names in a city where 50% of the population have super powers strains my ability to suspend disbelief so my characters have character names which are either their real names or a title that supersedes their name (but with the assumption that their real name is public knowledge) but to each their own.

Given that MAGI can't keep a biscuit tin secure, let along a magical artifact or secret. The chances of any hero giving their secret identity to the FBSA and not dying a week later are slim to none.

MAGI =/= FBSA

or as some prefer

MAGI != FBSA

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Black Pebble is my new hero.

MAGI are a branch of the FBSA.

They share the same failure.

A branch can have failure's without the parent organization necessarily having those same failures.

If the failure was endemic within the FBSA, it would be most likely be present in all branches, not just MAGI.

EDIT: For example, if your claim were true, it would also be true that because Person A is a complete moron with no social skills and a boorish personality then Person A's parents also share those same traits.

This is true. However, people also keep bringing up other topics which are almost universally acknowledged as idiotic and deserving of questioning the posters intelligence/parentage/species.

The fact that it keeps being brought up does NOT automatically mean it has merit. All it tells us for sure is that the issue has a handful of crusaders. My impression is that it's a vocal minority that has a problem with it. Personally, I'm fine with the "current way things are being done" regarding this.

Except well.... it's different people. I've not even seen the OP post before.

Except well.... I didn't say it was one, did I? I just said it was a handful or a minority. And, when these threads do get posted, they don't get a bunch of immediate posts in agreement, do they?

We also get different people suggesting merging the servers. <shrug>

It could be argued that those who have had real issue with the well... issue have already left.

Of course the Dev defense force will leap to the defense of the status quo even if the game starts to hemorage customers again.

Edit:

Since going Free to play, the need to merge servers should of fallen, however the issue of 'super hero/villain' names running out, will only rise.

Doesn't mean the issue hasn't been posted hundreds of times before. It has, and it's all ended the same way. Thread starts, people say "Oh crap, this thread again", a giant pissing contest ensues, thread devolves into "BUT IT REALLY IS AN ISSUE, IT REALLY IS IT REALLY IS" and then the thread dies.

Every. Single. Time. I wish the I21 beta forums were still up; I compiled a list of the threads that have been started about this very subject. I came out with about 30 links, and that wasn't the half of it.
