Tintin?
I strongly recommend it (and, if you can find it, in 2D - think it's actually better without the IMAX gubbins).
The flick captures the spirit of the comic books while giving the characters more depth - literally. There's even a lovely cameo by Herge himself as a caricaturist at the start of the movie.
Thoughts without spoilers:
- Film isn't a straight adaptation - it welds together Secret Of The Unicorn with elements from Red Rackham's Treasure, Castafiore Emerald and Crab With The Golden Claws...
-... not to mention a few nods to Indy and POTC. Look out for some classic Spielbergian setups, particularly the market chase.
- All the characters are fleshed out well without being too clunky: Tintin in particular is introduced as already successful (though broke).
- If you don't fall in love with Snowy/Milou by the end of the movie, you're not human.
In short, rollicking swashbuckling adventury stuff with lush visuals and a pretty decent script. Go see.
PS: My local cinema chain, Odeon, introduced the flick with an ad for their loyalty Premiere card, with the tagline... "sign up now and you could win a fantastic family holiday to... Belgium."
Errrr... that's not the most exciting idea in the world, kids. Sorry. Like Star Trek giving away a holiday in Iowa because that's where Kirk comes from.
Is it time for the dance of joy yet?
My initial reaction was summed up by this:
All the trailers, previews, clips, behind-the-scenes peeks, etc. haven't quite dislodged that first impression. Andy Serkis looks like he's delivering another brilliant mo-cap performance as Captain Haddock, with strong, distinctive body language and a physical solidity. Jamie Bell, Simon Pegg, and Nick Frost haven't picked up the knack for it, though. Their avatars move about the virtual scenery with a noticeably tentative weightlessness, as though wearing invisible spacesuits.
I'm going to see it, of course. Tintin's far too important a figure in my childhood for me to miss this. Still, I doubt Speilberg's CGI will ultimately compare to Herge's clear lines.

Am I the only one who forgot all about the cartoon character and only thought about Laurence Mason's charcter Tin Tin from "The Crow" when they read the title?

I haven't really been keeping up with movies much lately so my first reaction to seeing the thread title was me wondering why someone wanted to talk about an old telnet application.
So! I haven't seen any mention of this yet.
I haven't gotten around to watching The Adventures of Tintin yet, but I was thinking of taking my sister to see it this weekend.
So I'm curious if anyone's seen it yet and/or has any opinions on it?
