NaNoWriMo 2011
I am! Writing a story about my current main, too. Need to finish my plot notes though.
I started plotting out a CoH-themed story, but decided it would make for a better AE arc, instead. So my NaNoWriMo efforts will be devoted to a slightly different style of writing now.
You're not super until you put on The Cape!

1700 words a day might be a bit much for me, seeing as this will be my first attempt. That amounts to about five pages by my count and while I will probably hit that amount on some days I'm more likely going to top out at around two pages per day. Baby steps after all.
I'm actually going to be expanding a short story of mine into a full fledged novella. It's about what happens when a carcass of some continent sized alien THING shows up in earth's orbit, and how the people on the ground react.
Based on the number of 50,000 words makes a novel...I can write 8 novels in a month. I'm not, because I'd rather try to write something good, which takes more time ^.^
T.S Eliot quote: “if I had more time, I would have written a shorter letter”
Leonard Bernstein quote: “To achieve great things, two things are needed; a plan, and not quite enough time.”
More time does not equal better. And based on my experience this is true.
Although yes a month for a novel is not ideal, the whole point of this is a stress marathon, trial of fire, personal challenge, not to produce something good. It also helps to avoid the slacking habit of revising as a way to avoid going forward.
After November is over, go ahead and edit the hell out of it. After all, the first draft of anything is [a piece of excrement].
I've been trying to do this for many years now, ever since I heard about it, but I do have legitimate reasons for failing every time, namely my work
It's a bit of a cop out, I know, but I work in toy retail, so I'm coming up on the busiest time of the year for me, with longer days, higher stress levels and I'm working harder, so by the time I get home from work, I'm shattered and just want to relax and spend time with my family.
I've attempted NaNoWriMo a few times and failed it every time for the same reason, I'm just too tired by mid-november to have the energy to do it.
If this was in April or May or something, i'd have a much greater chance.
But one day......one day.
We built this city on Rock and Roll!
I'm very, very excited about NaNo this year. For the first time, I'm a Municipal Liaison(like a regional leader, if you don't know) and I think I've got a really cool novel idea.
Best of luck to everyone writing this year!
Already got 2018 words done today. Going to leave it all that, and go to class, do homework etc. And play CoX of course. XD I've been off the last few days preparing for this.
Edit: Although, I can't actually find their day-to-day counter as of yet, just an option to enter a word count. Hmm...
I'm doing it too! If you wanna add me as a writing buddy, I'm on there as Samuraiko (of course).
While I'm not pursuing it in the strictest sense, I am using to bang out the approximately 60k words remaining for TCOSR II. So theoretically I have already started my novel, but my previous chapters don't count toward my word count.

THE COURSE OF SUPERHERO ROMANCE CONTINUES!
Book I: A Tale of Nerd Flirting! ~*~ Book II: Courtship and Crime Fighting - Chap Nine live!
MA Arcs - 3430: Hell Hath No Fury / 3515: Positron Gets Some / 6600: Dyne of the Times / 351572: For All the Wrong Reasons
378944: Too Clever by Half / 459581: Kill or Cure / 551680: Clerical Errors (NEW!)
Just a head's up: for anyone doing this, it's always a good idea to use the website's word count as well as your word processor's, as the two aren't always equal (the website's is usually lower). 2018 is definitely a good start though, nice work.
Edit: Although, I can't actually find their day-to-day counter as of yet, just an option to enter a word count. Hmm... |
*goes off to look for Samuraiko*
trying this again this year.. A day behind due to work and other concerns.

Didn't really keep up with the thread, but I did finish my novel a few minutes ago. I know at least one person over on Unleashed finished today as well.
So, anyone else manage it this year?
I got through about five days before life, in typical fashion, dropped a ton of stuff on me in November (a string of paying video gigs topping the list).
ARGH.
Gratz to those who made it though!

I won, with 100 words over! My novel will never ever be finished but it was such a rush! Already planning my next one.
Not a purist either, I've tried using Nanowrimo the last five years to add 50,000 words to existing fanfic stories.
Based on that, I've written 50,000 words in November 4 years in a row, but this year I only managed about 16,000, so I failed for the first time in 5 years.
On the other hand, I probably wrote about 10,000 words in October on the same story, and I still need to finish the chapter I'm on....
my lil RWZ Challenge vid
I wrote 16,500ish words writing reviews for all of DCnU in November... I figured I wrote like 1000 words per review, but apparently not. That is divided up into like 4 days which is pretty nice when you consider it's 4000 words per day.
I'm using the reviews to help me to force me to write at least once a week so it's nice to know that I can at least come up with words to say ^.^
Less than 24 hours to go until the start date of National Novel Writing Month 2011. So, who else is taking part? Anyone interested can check out the NaNoWriMo site for more info, but the gist of it is you start from scratch and pump out a 50k word, or more, novel in a month, about 1700 words a day.
Myself and a few others from Unleashed are giving it a go. This will be my 3rd year, having failed the first time, and finishing last year. It's an interesting challenge, and definitely a rewarding experience if you can keep with it. I highly recommend it.
