I think instead of a new set for this, perhaps they just need to add more skins to AR.
I could get behind a bunch of new weapon skins for most all the weapon sets. I'd not exactly lobby for a new weapon set to be added. If the mechanic was interesting, I might be OK with a new weapon set, but I'd be probably happier with an interesting new mechanic tailored to, say, magic origin alts. A set that looks like spell casting, or something similarly magicly thematic might be nice.
I agree. As someone who's been wanting giant weapons, I never thought a new set was needed (note that so far the set has been fun for what little I've played it) just new weapon skins.

I wouldn't be adverse to some new skins for AR, heck throw in a new thematic type for all the power sets with custom options, but I have to say that AR is fairly lackluster in comparison to most of the other sets in regards to the "Style" and "Feel".
It's like the difference between dual pistols, and the mastermind thug pistols. One is a very jon-woo-doves-flyin-and-widows-cryin sort of fighting style which is visually impressive in its animations, while the set itself has some interesting mechanics. The other is "generic person B shooting a gun".
Beam rifle is sort of the other end of the spectrum, where it's not about the animations, but the "effects" the weapon has. Massive, loud beams of energy with explosive force and tearing, violent energies. It's not the actions of the character, but the weapon itself that is impressive.
The AR lacks both of these elements. Its animations are mundane and the effects are likewise pedestrian. While this may be good for those looking to have someone a little low key, I imagine there is still a niche for a set comparable to titan weapons, based on projectiles.
And that's a good point about magic. Frankly I see little to no representation of purely magical powers. Mostly conjuration of elements or netherworld energies (Dark _____)

I don.t really think that there should be a "magic" set for any at. Magic is an origin, not a power set. I don't think there would be a problem for sets to have a more "cast" like alternate animations, but most magic blasts in fiction or comics are either elemental blasts like fire, ice, or electric, pure energy like energy blast, mental assaults like psi, or netherworld blasts like dark.
Back on target, the resistance cannon should be a customization option for beam rifle, but the mini gun doesn't really work with AR.
The two blast sets that I would really love to see are thrown weapons based around the scrapper weapons mastery pool and a tk blast set that combines levitate and propel based powers to actually simulate throwing a car at someone.

It's not like we don't have precedent for an overtly magical set in Demon Summoning. If anything we need several more to even out the numbers since we have half a dozen sets at least already that are overtly technological and exactly one that is overtly magical.

You also seem to forget that we JUST got Beam Rifles, yet another overtly technological, gun based set, and, to top it off, have you seen the DUST Cannon? That thing is HUGE.

I'm hardly campaigning for a new tech set, as throwing can easily cover the Gambit card throwing or alchemical devices as well as exploding shuriken. What I have an issue with is a generic magic blast set when fire, radiation, electric, energy, dark, psi, and ice all exist and can all be magic blasts. Give them alternate animations, use the rune aura and you are set. You have 7 sets that can fill a magic blas concept. I agree that those sets could use alternate animations to convey a more magic feel, but the sets I suggested do not have anything existing to fit the concept apart from playing a scrapper or a control set when you really want a blast set.

AR has needed new gun models for years. The new ones they added with weapon customization are so theme specific. I always found it infuriating how AR was arguably -the- best candidate for cool custom weapon models, but had some of the worst options available.

I agree with everything that Krieg_Jaeger has said about magic and assault rifles, although some of it is off-topic and I would encourage you to start a new discussion on the subject if you want to keep debating the merits of new magic sets.
I agree with Krieg_Jaeger's point in that I would love to see a re-design of the Assault Rifle effects to be more dramatic and cool-looking. With the exception of the Vanguard Rifle, most of them look a little plain and unimpressive but its really the effect and explosions that matter when it comes to guns.
Also, I think we need a rocket launcher.

I've only just glanced a bit at beam rifle, and I'm not too incredibly impressed with it at the moment. But maybe I'll look into it more, it might fit the concept of "Big, hard hitting impressive tech power".
That aside, I would think a re-design for the franken-gun would be awesome, along with customizable options of some of the existing options we have, and more options in general.

I imagine the concept of adding a power set for "Big gun/s" (Resistance cannon, Various enemy type minigun, Rocket launcher, grenade launcher, etc) has been tossed around quite a bit and for quite some time, though ultimately was somewhat pointless due to the fact that we already have AR and Archery (And relatively recently, DP).
But now that we have Titan weapons making their debut soon, which appears to be more or less yet another lovely set (albeit not necessarily revolutionary in "role" and gameplay) why not massive gun/s?
I know I've been hankering for that minigun ever since I was getting mowed down by 5th column some years ago (Before the council overthrow nonsense) and I feel a direction could be taken that is not too dissimilaur than the one being used by TW, though with it's own unique style.
I would imagine passive chance for knockback and accuracy for general bonus. Lots of slow, powerful attacks, probably AoE oriented for the most part.
Thoughts? Do want? Do not want?

Just a thought. For a weapon "costume part" regarding this, weapons integrated into the arm, or under slung would be fantastic.
